    Nothing special.

Plot Synopsis: California, 2001. John Bolen is a substitute teacher who travels from school to school, secretly killing troublesome students. He heads to Monroeville High School, where he helps a female teacher who is being pressured into not testifying by a student who she saw murder someone in cold blood. Bolen then proceeds to murder the student's friends, while being pursued by a federal agent who believes that Bolen is the last of the A77 military battle androids.

"Class of 1999 II: The Substitute" is the sequel to "Class of 1999", which in turn is the sequel to "Class of 1984". Class of '84 was an unofficial remake of the '50s classic "Blackboard Jungle". The film was a violent tale about a teacher who took on the gangs that threatened him & his family. Class of '99 switched sides & became an over-the-top punk action film. The Substitute reverts back to the teachers' side. The script is nothing special but recycles future clichés, with prison-like school uniforms & barcoded car licence plates. For the acting, Sasha Mitchell plays the lead role with a wooden determination, which is appropriate for the role. The action scenes are well executed, although the climax is ham-strung by a cop-out of an ending.

    high school for thirtysomethings?

This movie is pretty bad in and of itself, but the thing that makes it over-the-top ridiculous is that all the students look about 30 years old, while the cyborg/substitute looks about 16. I know he's not, but next to all the "teens" he sure looks it!

Is this supposed to be a comedy? I found it quite funny, but the film takes itself so seriously. Maybe that's what makes it even funnier.

Watch if you have some time to waste and want a laugh.

The Weakest Film in the Trilogy

This film essentially begins where its predecessor left off with the four combat droids from the last picture having been destroyed earlier in the year. That being said, however, there now appears to be another combat droid by the name of "John Bolen" (Sasha Mitchell) operating as a substitute teacher at a high school in Bend, Oregon. To that effect, he also malfunctions and not only kills several unruly kids but also the principal of that school as well. Clearly realizing that he cannot remain there any longer, he then travels to Monroeville, California to serve as a substitute teacher at a reform school for very troubled high school students. Needless to say, in his mind this is an extremely target-rich environment which requires the only solution he is familiar with--with disastrous consequences for all concerned. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this was easily the worst film in the trilogy which began with "Class of 1984" and continued with "Class of 1999" produced four years earlier. Not only did it lack originality but even the surprising twist at the end wasn't really that effective either. In short, this was a rather weak sequel and I have rated it accordingly. Below average.

    Bad Story, Terrible Plot Points

"Class of 1999 II: The Substitute" is a bad movie with terrible plot points. The story of a substitute teacher, who seems to be a killer android that comes to a high school where a gangster and his dangerous gang are intimidating a teacher that witnessed him killing another student is a complete mess. The plot is pointless and does not make sense and the conclusion is awful. My vote is four.

    Predicts the future!

This movie really does predict the future! It was made in 1994, and early in the movie there is a scene with the principle and he says something about president clinton being incited. Of course in 1999 he wasn't indicted, but he was impeached by the house! Wow! Conspiracy? Or just a really stupid movie? OK, the past 3 days I have watched "Saturn 3", "Shredder" and now "Class of 1999 II: The Substitute" and by far Class of 1999 II was the worse, compare all 3 movies, that is really saying something. This stupid piece of crap didn't even have gruesome deaths to keep it interesting. The attempt at a meaningful plot made it so unbearable. The 'gangs' in this movie wear the most ridiclous clothes, who is going to be in a gang and look like that? Not worth watching at all, not even to laugh at.

    • Trivia
The film's original title was "Class of 2001: The Substitute". This is evident when the character of G.D. Ash (Rick Hill) mentions that the incidents at Kennedy High occurred two years ago. Therefore, despite the title, the film is supposed to be set in the year 2001.
    • Goofs
When John handcuffs Ice in the fireplace and sets him on fire, a close-up shot of the gas valve shows it in the off position (valve handle perpendicular to the pipe).
    • Quotes

[after sitting down with John to lunch, Jenna notices the huge amounts of food on his tray]

Jenna McKensie: I tell ya... if I ate that much food, I'd be...

John Bolen: I convert food to fuel rapidly. It's almost nuclear.

Jenna McKensie: [puzzled] Uh... yeah. Um... listen you've probably already heard about the rumors of me testifying going around the school. You know maybe everyone is right about me not testifying.

John Bolen: No, they're not. If you allow a student to gain control of the situation, the result is anarchy. Anyone who's telling you not to testify is wrong.
