    Martin Short is Funny..........Isn't He?

Am I one of only a handful of people who think Martin Short is hysterical? The only way a goofy plot like the one in this film could possibly work is if the lead actor was a true genius of comedy, a man among Canadians, a charming elf-like creature I like to call Martin Shortman. Martin Short relies heavily on facial movement and voice tonal changes to make his character Clifford funny. Through the annoyance of his dear Uncle Martin surely we all can get along and laugh together as a family of opinionated movie viewers just looking for a good time, a few chuckles now and then to make us forget that we have low paying jobs and live in shoddily built ranch-style homes overlooking well built but poorly placed sewage treatment plants. Bottom line is that if you really like Martin Short then you will think this movie is hilarious, if you don't then don't waste your time because you can't have it back.

    OH MY GOD

This is one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. That makes it just more than a bad movie. Martin Short could be seen, as Clifford, as an incarnation of the devil. Clifford is so evil sometimes that it verges on the scary. The look in his eyes is very singular.

My favorite scene is when Charles Grondin tells Clifford :

"Can't you just act like a human boy for a second here. Look at me like a real person. You can't do it more than few second. Look at me like a human boy!"

And Clifford that's not able to look human! AH!!! Pure madness!

I really don't know why this movie was made, but I admire the crazy people who dared to follow their weird instincs.

    Funny!

Martin Short was wonderful as Clifford. Imagine making a grown man look like a young boy? His dialogue with his toy dinosaur Steffan was funny as well as his relationship with his Uncle. In the end, they found a way to be happy together. He used his experience as a lesson for another young boy later in life. It was a change of pace from the ordinary and very creative. Sit back, relax and enjoy this film. Just don't take it too seriously. I don't think it was intended to be taken seriously.

One of the best comedies I have ever seen!

This movie is ingenious: an absolute masterpiece. One of the smartest and most original movies I have seen in a long time. Martin Short in the best role of his career playing a conniving, manipulative, all-around brat and absolutely shining while he does it. No one else could pull this off so effectively and convincingly. Charles Grodin and Mary Steenburgen are also excellent and at their finest. A MUST SEE!!!!

    Back to Classic Martin Short!

This movie is hilarious! Martin Short reverts back to his original "weird & off the wall" humor (SCTV, Glick) in this very funny comedy. This is what he does best.

Though I did enjoy him in other movies in recent years, like "Innerspace", "A Simple Wish", etc., I felt that he was sort of holding back. This movie ushers Mr. Short back into great original comedy stuff.

Although I'll admit- not everyone will find this as funny. You have to be able to appreciate his non-traditional type of comedy. Sort of like "Pee Wee's Big Adventure". I also loved this movie. So, you see, I guess you have to be a little strange to understand - and be amused by - this sort of material.

Funniest moment for me - at the dinner, when some older lady kept making over how "adorable" Clifford was - and he just loses it!

Funniest line - "Oh Ms. Sarah - Uncle Martin's gone Nutty-Nuts! Classic Martin Short!

I don't know why this hasn't been released on DVD yet. I hope it will be soon. 8 out of 10 stars.

Towards the beginning of the movie, Father Clifford is standing in front of a brick wall when Roger jumps from a window and lands on Clifford. Clifford goes down, but the camera does not move. Right before Clifford and Roger get up, the shadows on the brick wall instantly shift, revealing that scene was edited together from multiple takes.

    • Alternate versions
When aired on Comedy Central and later on the Disney Channel, five scenes deleted from the final cut are restored and also to edit out questionable content. The first one has Clifford and his parents forced off the plane when Clifford makes it land in Los Angeles. The second one has Clifford in the airport pretending to be a poor, deaf boy and many passerby's are seen donating gifts to him. The third one occurs when Clifford and Martin exit Sarah's house and he tells Clifford that Sneakers, the dog that he stole from the airport, ran away, much to Clifford's sadness. The fourth one occurs after the mini-mart incident, when Sarah and Mr. Ellis are in his private plane overlooking a possible site for a new daycare center. The fifth and final deleted scene shows Clifford sleeping over at Sarah's house, following Martin's arrest, offering her his great grandmother's wedding ring.
