I rented this DVD through the library, and I have never seen a show like this. I am impressed with this series. Kellie Martin and the rest of the cast did a good job on their roles. I plan on reading the novel for this series in the future.
Our whole family enjoyed this series very much. It is an inspiring tale of one young lady's courage and faith as a teacher to children in the backwoods "Cutter Gap". Each episode is heart-warming and entertaining. There was just one episode in the whole series that wasn't too great as far as modesty goes ("The Road Home"). Overall, it is a great series!
Christy was a wonderful, suitable entertainment that everyone could enjoy, and if you crave drama and romance...you would not be disappointed in Christy. The struggles Christy endures to love and understand her schoolchildren and make a life for herself in the backwoods mission and not as a sheltered city girl are amazing. Christy also has two men deeply in love with her, and she with them for different reasons. In one corner is the earnest young minister David, and the stubborn, brooding, but lovable Dr. MacNeill. I hope that a miniseries will air to conclude the story on-screen. But if that never comes to pass, choose an ending for yourself and be happy!
I read this book as a child, and then watched the miniseries when I was an older child. I have been looking for a digital copy of this for YEARS so that I can watch it again. I hope someone remasters this show so that a new generation can enjoy this version, which was well adapted from the books.
Seeing the stark contrast of the poverty throughout the stunning Appalachian mountains isn't what Christy Huddleston was prepared for. She's a well-to-do sheltered outsider whose pride as a first time teacher occasionally sets her up for both comedic and serious life lessons. This series (based on the novel which in turn is based on the author's mother's real life experiences), is so beautifully crafted, you'll find yourself dreaming of your beautiful friends Fairlight Spencer, ruddy Scottish men, and drunk pigs for weeks! An absolute classic!
