Leonardo DiCaprio is one of Hollywood's most prominent icons, emerging from a child star to a heartthrob, and evolving into a gifted and talented actor who still commands box-office success. Following global superstardom in James Cameron's Titanic, he reinvented himself as a versatile and interesting leading man, and so far, DiCaprio has made six feature films with legendary director Martin Scorsese. Awards success followed, with DiCaprio winning numerous accolades throughout his acting career, including three Golden Globes from seventeen nominations, and a BAFTA Award.
However, despite several prominent Oscar snubs for DiCaprio, he has enjoyed success at the Academy Awards, where he has enjoyed six acting nominations; Best Supporting Actor for What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, and Best Actor for Blood Diamond, The Aviator, The Wolf of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and The Revenant, finally winning for The Revenant in 2016. Leonardo DiCaprio's impressive career is marked by iconic roles and acclaimed films. The Revenant became a highlight after it earned him his first Best Actor Oscar award in 2016.
Hulu is streaming 2015's The Revenant this April. Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, this gritty Western had a stacked cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. Set against the backdrop of America's wild frontier, this revenge story follows fur trapper Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) surviving the odds and the elements to hunt down John S. Fitzgerald (Hardy) and avenge his son's murder. Depicting man's struggle with unforgiving nature, DiCaprio's character had to endure an ordeal that included eating dirt, sleeping in a horse's carcass, and being mauled by a bear. The Revenant was a critical and box office hit, earning $533 million against its $135 million budget.

Did You Know Kate Winslet Convinced Leonardo DiCaprio To Take Up Titanic? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Leonardo DiCaprio almost didn’t play Jack Dawson in Titanic. But his co-star Kate Winslet wasn’t going to let that occur. Before the film became one of the greatest blockbusters in history, DiCaprio was skeptical about joining the project. Winslet, however, made certain he rethought.
By the mid-1990s, DiCaprio had built a strong prominence with flicks like Romeo + Juliet and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. He was already seen as a proficient actor, but Titanic was distinct. It was a large-scale Hollywood romance, and the Shutter Island star wasn’t entirely persuaded it was the suitable move. Director James Cameron wanted DiCaprio for the role, but even his chatter with the actor wasn’t enough to guarantee him. That’s when Winslet took affairs into her own hands.

Does Leonardo DiCaprio regret missing out on this role due to Titanic? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Instead of sketching Kate Winslet like one of his French girls, Leonardo DiCaprio could’ve been rocking gold chains and questionable dance moves as Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights. And if you ask him? He kinda wishes he had.
“My biggest regret is Boogie Nights,” DiCaprio admitted. That’s a wild thing to say about the movie that made him Hollywood’s golden boy. But in 1997, DiCaprio had a choice: Cameron’s unsinkable romance or Anderson’s deep dive into ‘70s debauchery. He picked Titanic. Wahlberg took Boogie Nights. The rest is history.
DiCaprio was already Hollywood’s golden ticket — an Oscar nominee for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and fresh off Romeo + Juliet. Then Titanic happened, turning him into a full-blown heartthrob, whether he liked it or not. Meanwhile, Wahlberg was strutting through Boogie Nights,...

Leonardo DiCaprio Baywatch Story (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Did you know Leonardo DiCaprio nearly joined Baywatch? Yep, Hasselhoff’s decision kept him out of the iconic red swimsuit.
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Baywatch producers Michael Berk and Douglas Schwartz spilled the tea about what could have been. DiCaprio, then just a 15 y/o rising star, was ready to dive in as the son of Hasselhoff’s Mitch Buchannon. “We actually had DiCaprio ready to be cast,” Berk shared, setting the scene for a beachside drama that almost had Leo in its lifeguard lineup.
But, plot twist! Hasselhoff wasn’t sold on the idea. “David thought he was too old to play his son,” Schwartz explained, adding that Hasselhoff feared the casting would make him look older. Yeah, the Hoff wasn’t ready to be out-shined by a younger Leo. So, they gave the role to Jeremy Jackson, who was six years Leo’s junior.

Lily-Rose Depp’s Oscar snub for her brilliant performance in Nosferatu has enraged some fans. However, these fans seem to forget that her father Johnny Depp waited for two decades before he could get his first Academy nomination. Depp’s first of three nominations came in 2004 for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been a Hollywood giant since he appeared in two breakout roles in 1993. The actor accepted roles in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? and This Boy's Life. Gilbert Grape helped DiCaprio earn his first Academy Award nomination, and it would be the first of many. After all, he has enjoyed critical renown since the early days of his career. Through today, the actor has earned seven Oscar nominations, while bringing home one win for Best Actor in The Revenant.
It is hard to overstate the renown that DiCaprio's career has received. He starred in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Inception (2010), The Great Gatsby (2013), Django Unchained (2012), Killers of the Flower Moon (2024), and more. With such a prestigious career, DiCaprio has ushered in over $7 billion at the box office, and his career is far from over. DiCaprio's best movies are filled with romance, mystery, and acclaim.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Bold Career Move (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Imagine this: Leonardo DiCaprio lighting the black flame candle in Hocus Pocus. But that almost happened. DiCaprio, fresh off Growing Pains and not yet the Oscar-winning legend we know today, was considered for the role of Max Dennison, the sarcastic teen at the center of the witchy chaos in Salem. So, what made him turn down the role of a lifetime for a Halloween cult classic? The answer? A little movie called What’s Eating Gilbert Grape—and some serious guts.
Director Kenny Ortega remembered when DiCaprio walked into the room like yesterday. “The [casting] ladies called me up, and they said, ‘We’re sending you an actor today, but he’s not available, but you’re going to fall in love with him, but you can’t have him,'” Ortega laughed.

Before his career truly took off, Leonardo DiCaprio was in one of the most underrated Westerns of all time, mostly due to one of his co-stars paying for his wages. Leonardo DiCaprio's filmography is incredibly strong, abd despite being pegged as a youthful heartthrob early in his career, some of DiCaprio's best films also rank among the best of the modern era. Still, there was a time when he was still trying to find his footing in a number of roles, even after his lauded performance in 1993's What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
Prior to the megastardom afforded by the likes of both Romeo + Juliet and Titanic, DiCaprio was cast in a Sam Raimi-directed Western film, which would end up getting lost among his major films both before and after. It's hard to think of a bigger, more critically acclaimed movie star than Leonardo DiCaprio, and his elite A-list status has built him a staggering 2024 net worth. DiCaprio first made a name for himself in dramas like What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) before rocketing to the top of the A-list with James Cameron's epic romance, Titanic, in 1997. After tons of awards nominations, his performance in 2015's The Revenant finally won DiCaprio his first Oscar. DiCaprio is also known for his collaborations with Martin Scorsese, with their last movie being Killers of the Flower Moon in 2023.
DiCaprio was born in Los Angeles, California to parents Irmelin and George, and is an only child. Bitten by the acting bug early, DiCaprio began acting at the age of 14, appearing in several commercials before breaking into television in the early '90s. Offscreen, the actor is famous for his series of romantic relationships, often involving significantly younger women.

The casting of Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson in Titanic has one of the most fascinating backstories in Hollywood. Initially, Matthew McConaughey was a serious contender for the role. McConaughey has often spoken about how he auditioned for the part, even reading scenes with Kate Winslet, who was already cast as Rose. He left the audition room feeling confident—he thought he had nailed it. But James Cameron, the director, had a different vision for his young, dreamy hero.
Here’s where it gets even more interesting. James Cameron initially leaned towards Leonardo DiCaprio, but the studio wasn’t convinced. At the time, DiCaprio was primarily known for smaller, intense roles in films like What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and The Basketball Diaries. The studio doubted whether he could carry a massive romantic blockbuster. Adding to the drama, DiCaprio himself initially refused to read for the part of Jack Dawson.

In the ‘90s, there was no greater romance on the screen than that of Jack and Rose, the Romeo and Juliet of the North Atlantic Ocean. Doomed as they were, their love captured a moment that hasn’t entirely been replicated since. And both Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have remained close ever since first working on 1997’s Titanic, with their latest reunion occurring just this week.
Appearing ahead of a screening of Lee, in which Winslet stars as photojournalist Lee Miller, DiCaprio honored his co-star by saying, “Kate Winslet has dedicated herself to the film and to honoring Lee’s legacy for over the course of nine years. I remember her speaking about this to me personally. This has been a massive passion project for her, and it’s a journey that speaks to the depth of Kate’s passion and her dedication to telling stories that need to be remembered.

Since 2002, two Hollywood heavyweights have had an illustrious — and productive — working relationship, and cinema as a whole is better off because of it. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have been working together for decades now, with DiCaprio playing essential roles in some of Scorsese's best modern films, and what makes their relationship all the more touching is that DiCaprio has publicly revealed that Scorsese's movie "Taxi Driver" served as a major inspiration for his own acting career. Before these two joined forces, it may have felt borderline impossible to imagine that they'd become one of the most tightly-knit Hollywood duos in cinematic history; while DiCaprio was getting his start in projects like "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" and "Titanic," Scorsese was already a directing legend thanks to "Taxi Driver" and other hits like "Mean Streets," "Raging Bull," "Goodfellas," "The Age of Innocence," and "Casino," just to name a few. Leonardo DiCaprio Could Have Been a Superhero—Here’s Why He Turned Down Batman and Spider-Man (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Hollywood’s A-list actor Leonardo DiCaprio has played diversified roles in films ranging from intense dramas like The Revenant and Shutter Islands to his iconic works like Titanic and Inception. Despite his renowned reputation as one of the industry’s most talented actors, DiCaprio never appeared in any DC or Marvel universes, frequently featuring iconic stars like Gal Gadot, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Christian Bale. While he may have rejected several roles in his pursuit of delivering exceptional work, he also has turned down some iconic roles, including a superhero role.
At 19, DiCaprio earned his nomination for an Oscar for his performance in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. After this, he was offered several roles, including Richard Grayson/Robin in 1995 DC and Batman Forever. Unfortunately, the Titanic actor turned down the role.

Quick Links The Original and Rebooted Lassie Leo's Supporting Role in The New Lassie Leonardo DiCaprio's Long Post-Lassie Career
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of this generation's most iconic actors. The multi-award winner has enjoyed a career in film and TV for more than 30 years. While loyal fans know his early work, such as Growing Pains and What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, Leo's TV debut may come as more of a surprise.
DiCaprio's first major TV appearance came with 1989's The New Lassie, a sequel to the original 1950s Lassie series. While everybody knows the original incarnation of Lassie, some might not remember this follow-up. But while The New Lassie may have faded away, DiCaprio certainly did not. In the years since that debut, DiCaprio saw his star rise to the genuine A-list celebrity status he enjoys today. It may not have been his breakout role, but everyone has to start somewhere.

One cannot exaggerate how popular Leonardo DiCaprio was in the late 1990s. Not only was the handsome young actor acclaimed for his performances in "This Boy's Life" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?," but he was also working with interesting directors like Agnieszka Holland (on "Total Eclipse") and Sam Raimi (on "The Quick and the Dead"). He had even became a legit American heartthrob after appearing in the MTV-ready "Romeo + Juliet," a reputation that seemed to become permanent when he starred in James Cameron's 1997 film "Titanic," the then highest-grossing movie of all time.

Humble Beginnings and Stardom Johnny Depp has always been a misfit even before he was an actor. When he was young, he didn’t plan to graduate high school, and ended up dropping out to become a musician. He was a guitarist for a band called the Kids. He and his band moved to Los Angeles. During his time in the band, he became a struggling musician, but ended up finding steady work as an actor since he was introduced to Nicolas Cage by his then-wife Lori Anne Allison. Nicholas helped Johnny to audition for Wes Craven for the low-budget horror film ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street.’ The film achieved international success since it scared its audiences and featured a memorable kill by showing a young Johnny Depp being brutally killed by the boogeyman, Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund). 1980s The following year, Johnny Depp starred in ‘Private Resort...

Juliette Lewis is without a doubt one of Hollywood's most underrated yet phenomenal performers, with the talented actress starring in a slew of eclectic films over her more than 30-year career. From acclaimed pictures like Cape Fear, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, and The Basketball Diaries to edgy classics like Natural Born Killers and From Dusk till Dawn, Lewis has proven that she can brilliantly transform herself for any character or genre and do so spectacularly.
She once again showcased her dazzling skills in front of the camera when she appeared alongside Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage in the riveting Western thriller The Thicket, an adaptation of the Joe R. Lansdale novel of the same name. In the captivating film, Lewis embraces her dark and depraved side and stars as the sadistic killer Cutthroat Bill, a role that was gender-swapped for the big screen extravaganza. Let's take a closer look...

Science fiction is a genre that thrives on mankind's ability to imagine the future. Sci-fi films take us to galaxies far, far away, or they guide us down the rabbit hole into a computer program. We can visit forbidden planets or envision technologies that transform our own world, exploring space, or learning all too late that in space, no one can hear us scream. Ray Bradbury, author of "The Martian Chronicles," put it this way: "Science fiction is the most important literature in the history of the world, because it's the history of ideas, the history of our civilization birthing itself."
By revisiting the films on this list, however, we can imagine a different sort of future: someone's future acting career. The sci-fi genre has provided a jumping-off point for countless stars who went on to make their mark elsewhere, including future Oscar winners, future comedians, future talk show hosts,...

Black Mass features some cast members giving fantastic but incredibly eerie performances. The Whitey Bulger biography is not Johnny Depp's most talked-about role, but it is perhaps one of his most chilling. The actor is better known for parts like Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland, or Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, which easily overtake Black Mass in popularity, but his part is nonetheless worth looking at.
Whitey Bulger was an Irish-American mobster in South Boston who became one of the most notorious criminals in his area's history. Black Mass tells his true story, specifically chronicling the time wherein Bulger acted as an FBI informant in order to take down a Mafia family that was threatening him. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation National Lampoon’S Christmas Vacation, Johnny Galecki, Juliette Lewis, Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, 1989 Though her roles are “all special for different reasons,” Lewis has fond memories of her first major role: Audrey, the teen daughter of the put-upon Griswold clan, in 1989’s National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. “I see all these people, these kids and families [who are fans of the film] and it’s so touching because you can’t predict that. While Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily-Rose Depp seems to be making a headway in her career with the upcoming Robert Eggers horror film Nosferatu, the failure of The Idol still looms over her. The HBO show was canceled after five episodes, with many fans criticizing its themes and graphic depictions of s*x and n*dity.
However, the show seems to have received one feather in its cap as it recently earned the Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography. The series centered around a troubled pop star who gets swayed by a cult leader. With the Emmy win, Lily-Rose Depp seems to have surpassed her father in the TV space.

Juliette Lewis has a very good reason why her horseback ridings skills are so impressive in her new thriller, “The Thicket.”
“I’m a third-place ribbon barrel racer,” Lewis says on this week’s episode of “Just for Variety.” “I was an equestrian. I grew up riding horses before I was 12. So the first thing we did in Calgary [where the movie was shot in the dead of winter] was get on a horse. They wanted to check us out, how you rode. I got a very good rating with my horse riding.”
In the Elliott Lester-directed movie (in theaters Sept. 6), based on Joe R. Lansdale’s book of the same name, Lewis plays Cut Throat Bill, a violent hardened outlaw at the turn of the 20th century who kidnaps a young girl (Esmé Creed-Miles ). The girl’s brother (Levon Hawke) hires a bounty hunter (Peter Dinklage) to rescue his sister.

Both characters played by DiCaprio in these movies are driven by trauma and past struggles, each on a different path to redemption. While Inception was critically better and won awards, Shutter Island offers a highly entertaining psychological thriller experience as well.
Over the years, Leonardo DiCaprio has played a number of iconic roles, yet in 2010, the actor took on two almost identical characters within months of each other. One of the finest actors of a generation, Leonardo DiCaprio has starred in four movie Westerns in his decorated acting career. While most associate such Westerns with Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, and Alejandro G. Inarritu's The Revenant, the latter for which DiCaprio won an Academy Award, Sam Raimi's The Quick and the Dead deserves serious consideration for the best in class.
Released in 1995, The Quick and the Dead is a progressive, non-traditional Western that revolves around a quick-draw shooting competition in 1881 Arizona. The film boasts a stellar cast led by Sharon Stone and a charismatic performance by DiCaprio and also has a much lighter tone and more amusing tenor than the westerns above. Now that The Quick and the Dead is available on Netflix, fans should revisit DiCaprio's most entertaining Western movie and see how far he's come as an A-list Hollywood actor.

It seems she is now back on her feet as she has now told InStyle about how she regularly gets left with huge dinner cheques when she is out: “You go out to dinner, and there’s 15 people at the table, and who gets the cheque? You get the $3,000 dinner check every single time.”
She also said it’s “very expensive to be famous.” But she has said she is far from stingy, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Leonardo DiCaprio's early movies, such as "Critters 3" and "Poison Ivy," may not have been well-received by critics and audiences. Despite the lackluster reviews, DiCaprio's performances in films like "Total Eclipse" and "Marvin's Room" showcased his talent and ability to immerse himself in his characters. DiCaprio's breakout roles in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" and "Titanic" solidified his status as an A-list actor and catapulted him to stardom.
As one of the most popular and acclaimed actors working today, taking a look at Leonardo DiCaprio's first movies show the talent he had even as a young actor while also highlighting how far he has come. DiCaprio's recent role in Killers of the Flower Moon was the latest in a long string of highly acclaimed movies. He has starred in the highest-grossing movie of all time, worked with some of the greatest filmmakers of all time, and won an Oscar along with five other nominations.

Three decades ago, a virtually unknown young Leonardo DiCaprio received his first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in the small coming-of-age film “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”
This year, the world-famous Academy Award winner finds himself in something of a reverse situation. His “Killers of the Flower Moon” was celebrated with 10 Oscar noms, including Best Director for Martin Scorsese, Best Actress for Lily Gladstone and Best Supporting Actor for Robert De Niro. Despite headlining the film, DiCaprio was left out of the Best Actor lineup.
As most awards watchers know, his omission was not exactly a surprise. But given that, back in October, he was considered a shoo-in to earn his seventh acting bid, it is just a tad peculiar. So why was DiCaprio snubbed? Here are five reasons why.
1. It wasn’t considered a career-best performance.
As one of the premiere actors of his generation, the bar is exceptionally high for someone like Leo.

Leonardo DiCaprio, once again, missed out on an Oscar nomination.
But that comes as no surprise.
DiCaprio’s portrayal of easily-led naiveté and of greed blotting out love helps to set the tone of last year’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” just as his vexed internal conflict drives “The Departed” forward and his headlong passion launched a million “Titanic” fans.
It’s hard to feel bad for DiCaprio — who, first of all, is among the world’s most famous (and famously high-living) celebrities, and, what’s more, did indeed finally get his trophy. After an aggressive campaign that leaned hard on the notion that he’d been pushed to the edge of safety, and, perhaps, sanity in “The Revenant,” he picked up his award.
And while his derring-do and his survival instincts in that film were indeed a feat, they weren’t what DiCaprio does best. This makes him...

Titanic is still Leonardo DiCaprio's only billion-dollar movie at the box office. Leonardo DiCaprio's highest-grossing film and the only one to surpass a billion dollars at the box office is Titanic. DiCaprio's projects often do well at the box office and even better in terms of critical reception, but he does not do a lot of blockbusters.
Almost 30 years after its release, Titanic still holds several of the impressive records it broke at that time, one of which involves Leonardo DiCaprio and is quite surprising. Titanic came out in 1997 and became an instant classic. The movie was not only a great display of visual and special effects that were groundbreaking for that time, but it was also a passionate and dramatic love story that everyone loved. That combination is what made the film more than just a financial hit.
