Juliusz Machulski is a renown Polish film director, and he is well known for his Va Bank series, as well as some more both comedy and serious dramas. Here, in this 1992 movie, he is delving deep into Polish Riot of 1863-1864. The cast is mostly excellent, and the nature scenes are shot with a definite gusto, while battle scenes are somewhat poorly and shakily shot with a certain blur in eyes. The intentionally bleak color scheme is of a great advantage, but generally the film leaves with some mixed bag of emotions/ The love line is not developed thoroughly and the short timing of a movie does not allow the plot to unwind at its fullest. Anyway, it is worth seeing at least once
