An Action Film with Multiple Scenes Involving Gunfights and Martial Arts

This film essentially begins with two young children watching their parents engage in a gunfight with one another before each of them are eventually separated. Thirty years later, a young woman named "Sheila Cho" (Sibelle Hu) has taken over from her father and runs an expensive casino in Hong Kong. To that effect, she is paid a visit by a wealthy Japanese businessman by the name of "Chi-lo Konhon" (Alex Man) who is interested in investing in her business. At first, negotiations go quite smoothly. Unfortunately, things change when Chi-lo's brother is murdered--which causes Chi-lo to suspect that Sheila had something to do with it. Not long afterward, Sheila has a member of her family killed as well. Needless to say, this causes intense friction between both Sheila and Chi-lo which eventually breaks out into an open war between members of these two groups. Coincidentally, at this same time, a mysterious man named "Feng Dee" (Alex Fong) arrives and demands a high-stakes game between him and Sheila due to the murder of his father 30 years earlier. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this was one of those films that action enthusiasts will probably love due to the number of scenes involving gunfights or martial arts. The problem I had with it, however, was due to the fact that so many of these scenes were completely unrealistic. Even so, I suppose it still passed the time fairly well, and I have rated this movie accordingly. Average.

            The mighty Gambler

Sheila (Hu) and Feng (Fong) have been rivals since childhood, until they are separated as kids. Growing up in the rough Hong Kong underworld, Sheila ends up being a gambler and hitwoman, while Feng is now an all-powerful triad boss. When both of them inexplicably ends up on opposing sides of a mob war, chaos ensues.

Sibelle Hu looks quite different here, glamorous and dressed in suits, and acting a bit refined than her usual tough cop roles she plays, but that goes out of the window in the last twenty minutes when she starts wielding a shotgun. At first, this Hong Kong actioner starts out slow, and the plot is convoluted, though interesting enough to stick with. It soon progresses into a rather tense and exciting concoction of betrayal, past rivalries and double cross, which culminates in gun battles and sword wielding between two babes- one of them is Michiko Nishiwaki, who happens to be a goodie. Alex Fong is quite good as the drug addict villain.
