This film is very funny....the teaming of Martin and Hawn proved an hilarious combination. Both actor's are accomplished in the comedy department and this is no surprise why this film works (well for me it does). Gwen (Hawn's character) cons her way into the life of Martin's...simply by using her wonderful imagination. After meeting him while working, she has a one night fling with him and somehow decides she wants to live in his newly built house. The only problem is Newton Davis (Martin's character) has no clue to what she's up to. The tricky predicaments she places Martin and herself in, are a treat to watch....a zany, clever comedy in my opinion. Please don't be misled by the rating on IMDb, because it really is an injustice....it is an enjoyable movie.
My vote 8/10.

Wonderful bit of fluff, especially compared to the crude, dark or 'edgy' drek that predominates these days. Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin are great together. They should team up more often. Kudos to the writer, Mark Stein. The lies made up by compulsive liars in this film are especially imaginative.

If you like Steven Martin and/or Goldie Hawn, then this film is a "must see"! Both their characters are very typical them, and together they are dynamite.
I started laughing early in the film, and kept on laughing to the very end! The ending was a bit surprising, but good!
Peter MacNicol's character was a bit too similar to "John Cage" in the TV series "Ally McBeal". Of course without Biscuit's "special features". But since he has only a small part in this film, it doesen't spoil it.
My only question was: How could he afford it???

Totally hilarious comedy with the adorable Goldie superbly playing a con artist who b.s.'s her way into the lives of a group of complete strangers, upsetting the existence of many and enriching others. One of Goldie's and Martin's best.
This movie is so cute! From the first scene to the last, this adorable romantic comedy will have you doubled over in laughter. In the beginning, Steve Martin proposes to his girlfriend, Dana Delaney, while unveiling a custom house he built her, with a gigantic red ribbon wrapped around it. She scoffs and declines, and in his grief, he gets drunk at a bar and has a one-night stand with a beautiful waitress, Goldie Hawn.
In the morning, with Steve gone and only a cocktail napkin to remember him by, Goldie concocts a genius scheme. The napkin has a drawing of Steve's house on it, and she finds it and starts living in it, taking on the identity of his new wife! Julie Harris and Donald Moffat play Steve's parents, and as Goldie makes up a story of how she and their son met and fell in love, they eat right out of her hand. With a fully paid house, charge accounts at every store, and a town full of people who want to cozy up to her, she's got it made-until Steve shows up.
Full of hilarious scenes and constant twists in the plot, HouseSitter is a movie you'll add to your collection. It's a classic, clean romance from the 1990s with a great premise and a proposal out of every girl's dreams. How cute is this, by the way: when my family moved into our second home, there was a gigantic red bow wrapped around it on moving day!
