Enjoyable, fantasy romance, dignified but personable.

Garnet princess was an enjoyable story to watch. All of the scenes were depicted in a dignified manner and yet very personable, not at all stuffy. A fantasy romance that was delightful and very entertaining. I thought the actors were believable, directing good, scenery beautiful, and most of the sound was good.

    Could have been "The King."

The best story in the Shades of Love series, but not the best realized. That honor goes to the "Rose Cafe." The story of a fashion designer who discovers romance and her own royal heritage is a real treat. The performances are fine and the story is good. I think the producers felt they had something special and tried to stretch the small budget for all it's worth. They suceeded, but IMO, switching the setting of the final locale with an earlier scene would have greatly improved the final product.

One of the better ingredients in the formula

The Shades of Love series came along at the time when most people were watching nighttime soaps like "Dallas" and "Dynasty" and the romantic fantasy business was in boom. The formula for the series was to cast well know male actors (mostly American) with much lesser known Canadian actresses in plots lines typical of most romance novels.

"The Garnet Princess" is no different. While I can't actually put my finger on it, there was something about this one, however, that I actually liked. Perhaps maybe it is because the actors appeared to take their participation seriously. I especially like Yvette Brind'amour as the grandmother. This story is charming and pleasant, unlike "Sincerely Violet" which I thought stupid.

If the series is ever resurrected it would be interesting to see this one again.
