Back in 1983, legendary producer Roger Corman brought the world a sword and sorcery film with an awesome title: Deathstalker. It was so successful, it paved the way for three sequels: Deathstalker II: Duel of the Titans (1987), Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell (1988), and Deathstalker IV: Match of the Titans (1991). The franchise went dormant for more than thirty years, but earlier this year we learned that it’s being revived by filmmaker Steven Kostanski – whose previous credits include Manborg, Father’s Day, The Void, Leprechaun Returns, Psycho Goreman, Frankie Freako, and episodes of the short-lived Day of the Dead TV series. Kostanski is writing and directing a Deathstalker remake that has Daniel Bernhardt (John Wick) playing the title character… and now that the project is in post-production, the filmmakers recently revealed that the theme song composed for the remake is a collaboration between legendary musician Slash, composer Bear McCreary, and Deathstalker II composer Chuck Cirino!

Jim Wynorski is a legend in the B-movie world, having racked up over 100 directing credits over the course of his 40+ years of working in the entertainment industry. Among those credits are Chopping Mall, Deathstalker II, The Return of Swamp Thing, Sorority House Massacre II, Hard to Die, Ghoulies IV, Demolition High, Piranhaconda, Sharkansas Women’s Prison Massacre, Attack of the 50 Foot CamGirl, and Murderbot – so it’s clear to see why Wynorski was the subject of a documentary back in 2009. The documentary is called Popatopolis, and the folks at Terror Vision have just brought it to Blu-ray for the first time ever! Copies can be ordered at This Link.
Directed by Clay Westervelt, Popatopolis has the following synopsis: Jim Wynorski was the first to cast Traci Lords in mainstream cinema. He directed Heather Locklear in The Return of Swamp Thing. He discovered Jennifer Love Hewitt. Now, the man behind The Bare Wench Project...

The Films:
Roger Corman, God love him. God love Shout! Factory too, for these continued collections of his films, making any and every B-movie fan happy. Corman loved to mine a successful genre for all its worth, and when Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Conan the Barbarian hit in 1982, Corman rushed a few sword and sorcery films out. Creatures, boobs, “epic” journeys, it’s all here, low budget camp style.
Deathstalker (1983): There’s much to love here. The plot is silly enough and perfect for late night viewing: an old man convinces the Stalker to collect three magical items and fills his ears with tales of heroes, yet the Stalker loses track of his quest and beds every nubile woman in sight. Awesome. So there’s tits, blood, creatures, and while it’s campy most of the time, it’s always fun and quirky. Deathstalker is Conan-lite, but fun, fun, fun.

Trollhunter - is one of those festival favourites that somehow slipped through the cracks here at Qe. Oh, we knew all about it, we just never caught a screening for review or promoted it for some reason. Chances are you've seen the amazing trailers from Magnet that have come out since the film was picked up for distro. Know though that this is a Norwegian film with subs and that it's supposed to be pretty stellar. Looking forward to finally watching it.
Blitz - is a UK cop/action flick starring Jason Statham. It's been getting middling reviews since it's release in the UK, some calling it out as being on par with a Mftv movie. Seems like one I'd check out if I was in the mood for some action though.

Cloverfield (review) remains one the most divisive films of 2008. Some loved it. Others hated it. But I think we can all agree while there were plenty of boobs on the screen (the characters, I mean), they weren't the sort of boobs we'd have preferred. Cleavagefield looks to correct that jiggly oversight.
Jim Wynorski has spent the bulk of his 25-year b-moviemaking career giving us all manner of horror movies, monster movies, action films, kiddy flicks, and erotic thrillers, everything from Chopping Mall to Return of Swamp Thing to Deathstalker II to Munchie to Point of Seduction: Body Chemistry III and then on. He also really loves breasts. More specifically, he really loves tongue-in-cheek parodies loaded up with top-heavy women in varying degrees of undress. Or have you not seen The Breastford Wives, The Witches of Breastwick, and The Bare Wench Project and so on? Now comes Cleavagefield.
