Cult 1980's film for a niche audience

I really like Alien From L.A. Maybe It's because I like Kathy Ireland's sweet little voice? They used to show this on HBO & Showtime in the early 1990's.

Sure, Alien From L.A. is a complete fantasy and way over the top but it has a certain charm to it that i really love. It truly has that Roger Corman B-Movie "cult atmosphere" going for it. Personally i would not change a thing about the movie. It is so much better than similar types of films released in the last few years.

Most people probably don't like this film because it seems so unrealistic. I think that it was really meant to be satirical comedy, and only a limited percentage of viewers will actually "get" it.

Hopefully it will be released on DVD sometime in the near future, as it is rumored to be!

    80's fluff...

...the stuff that covered the shelves of local video stores in the old days. I love films like this, more for their value as time-pieces than for their artistic merits.

Kathy Ireland is a hoot (or is that "a squeak"?) playing off her "L.A. Gear" persona, but the sets and costumes really make the film. Imagine a pastiche of every 80's music video, and you've pretty much got the art direction for this film.

Wonderfully, watchably bad.. It's a shame that most people only got to see the cut MST3K version.

Kathy is best seen, not heard.

This movie is so bad, that it needed horror movie helper (MSTK 3000) to get anybody through it alive. Kathy plays a teenager who goes looking for her father in the underworld (filmed in somebody's basement in Ohio). You will cringe every time she says, "I'm looking for my Fa- father" How a young woman can sound like a helium breathing Marsha Brady is beyond me.

Kathy, please, PLEEEZE stick to modeling.

Caution: Do not, I mean do not watch this film unless you are occupied by the robots and Mike Nelson. (MSTK 3K). Otherwise comatose may result.

Yes, it's bad, but it's not Kathy's fault.

Albert Pyun presents his vision of the lost city of Atlantis - and it's a vision so cluttered up with claustrophobic settings, weird costumes and noisy, "quirky" minor characters that one thing is for sure: you want to get the hell outta there as soon as possible (unfortunately, it will take you about 80 minutes). The "Alice in Wonderland"-like story is meandering and uninteresting, and there was probably no actress in the world who could have turned this into a good movie, though Kathy Ireland makes an appealing (annoying voice and all) attempt. A bad movie, that made a great comedy parody!

Mystery Science Theater 3000 took this very bad film (and one of the most current that they used) and made a very funny comedy bit out of it. It is a far more satisfying way to watch the film!

    • Trivia
The last name for the main character is taken from Arne Sakneusemm, the Icelandic scientist who traveled to the center of the earth in Jules Verne's classic novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth."
    • Goofs
Kathy Ireland briefly loses her squeaky voice when she's doped up on the table. She laughs and says in a deeper voice (probably her real one), "You think I'm an alien?"
    • Quotes

Wanda Saknussemm: Whoa! Bitchin' left hook, Crassus!

    • Crazy credits
Interspersed during the credits is the Anchorman, giving reports about Wanda's existence (or lack thereof) as he gets conflicting reports from Crassus and Rykov.
    • Alternate versions
UK version is cut by 21s to secure a 'PG' rating.
