    Worth seeking out

Don't expect too much adventure or action. The hero of this movie seems more interested in a good martini than guns, money or even the girl. This flick seems more like a screwball comedy of the 1930's than an adventure film, but is definitely worth seeking out, if only for the performance of former Baltimore Colts great Art Donovan as a hitman. He is both natural and funny.

    Amateur hour

My review was written in December 1987 after watching the movie on Lightning video cassette.

"The Adventure of the Action Hunters" is a woefully inadequate feature, originally titled "Two for the Money". Bearing a 1982 copyright, pic went into regional release last May from Troma.

With minimal action, despite its new title, pic relies heavily on asynchronous dialog to tell a nonstory involving two bystanders in an adventure finding $500,000 at the bottom of Oyster Creek. Two bumbling gangsters are after them, but not much happens. A 1950s period setting is pointless (a few old clothes and cars) and there is no reasonable connection established between the characters (heroine has a boyfriend who mysteriously disappears from the narrative as she teams up with the hero).

Ronald Hunter makes for an unusual leading man, aiming at light-hearted dialog delivery but not convincing as an action man who would rather fix martinis.

Director Lee Bonner provides no narrative drive as the film plods along, with scenes haphazardly constructed. Lensed in Baltimore and Long Island, pic is typical of a vanity (or amateur) production in listing every extra in the end credits.
