Something Special, it was called on the cover...

found an unopened copy of this in a garage sale and it was such an unassuming movie that i fell in love with it after first viewing. mainly cause i related to it so much. I'm not lesbian, but i do want equal treatment.

this movie addressed that issue without being too heavy. and you cant help but cringe at the development of the storyline, not because its awful, but because the acting was so real.

it didn't have popular actors, except for john glover, who was hilarious, i might say. but the mom was really funny too.

it also reminded me a bit of revenge of the nerds.

be prepared for an unusual plotted, lines bordering cheesy, not-for-intellectuals type of movie, and you'll like this one.

    Needs a resurgence

This movie is a very early voice for trans youth. It is a product of its time so be a little forgiving when viewing. It has great intentions. It was saying it aloud (in 1986!) before it became more accepted and that is saying something! We see the struggle to fit in and where you belong, unintended outcomes, and even the parent's perspective. Plus it's just some great 80s fun. It is difficult to find nowadays, but if you find a rip of it somewhere i highly suggest watching this movie. More so if you're living as a trans youth of today. This film should give some perspective to how trans people dealt with their newfound lives in the 80s.

    Found it on DVD!

My sister and I LOVE this movie! We found the VHS at the flea market in the 90's. I recently found it on Amazon (DVD) and bought it ... opening music was updated (poor choice) - some lame graphics also added to opening credits - but boy am I happy to have it on DVD!

Love Seth Green as the little punk neighbor boy, and how he randomly appears with his red wagon (everywhere), all seeing. I also like how Milly is merely seeing what the perceived benefits are to being a boy; she's not bi-curious, she's a feminist, and avoids advances from the girls.

A truly hilarious fantasy comedy that can be enjoyed time and time again.

" Boys have got it made ", or so reckons ' Willy Milly's ' Milly Niceman ( Pamela Segall ), a budding young astronomer whose life is dramatically changed thanks to an ancient spell and a rare solar eclipse. For Milly's deepest darkest desire is granted, enabling her to experience life as a boy and with all the correct equipment to do it! But Milly soon discovers that being ' Willy ' doesn't neccesarily mean that life gets any easier, especially when she comes up against the high school bully!

Based on a story by Alan Friedman, Paul Schneider's offbeat ' Willy Milly ' is a truly hilarious fantasy comedy, one of those rare movies that can be enjoyed time and time again. Sharply scripted and impeccably acted, Segall delights in the lead role and she is offered terrific support by the likes of Patty Duke and John Glover as the Niceman parents and the lovely Mary Tanner as her dumbfounded best friend Stephanie.

    good times

My friends and I used to go to our local video store before it got rid of its VHS, back in the day and we'd rent piles of video's always making sure that we only rented things that we hadn't seen and looked strange. Something special was in a bright pink box with a little doodle of a girl looking down her pants in shock and we knew right away that we had to rent it.

This is not by any means one of those movies which will one day explode in popularity, but when my friends and I watched it, we couldn't believe what we were seeing it had us rolling on the floor laughing and we probably watched it about six times in one weekend because it amused us so much. If you love movies that really are quite stupid but in a fun guilty pleasure sort of way this is a definitely a movie for you, plus tiny Seth green is hilarious.
