    Ahh...the 80's

    Ahh...the 80's.

Yuppies, AIDS, Perrier, Reaganomics, and gourmet ice cream. Therapy was "trendy", music videos were creative, and consumerism was king.

All these topics, and more, are spoofed in this all-too-short romp in comedy and music. Using a narrative framework of a pair of flower children who dropped acid and didn't wake up for 17 years, the 80's are put under a microscope--one that holds up amazingly well, considering that this performance was done when the decade was in full swing.

    Dated but funny!

I recorded this onto VHS back when it first aired on Showtime. I thought the skits (on stage) were hilarious and just a bit of genius. Although the show is totally dated and now about 30 years old I would love to buy a copy of this on DVD as my VHS tape has long since disappeared. Unfortunately, I can find in nowhere! The actors were basically unknowns mostly at the time the show was recorded. I saw many of them later in other programs. The skits were sometimes raw and a bit rude, but what do you expect from National Lampoon? Some of the skits reminded me of a comedy troupe called 'The Committee' which did similar things on Broadway in San Francisco for many years. A poor quality copy of this was posted on YouTube. However, if anyone has information about obtaining a good quality copy of this movie I'd sure love to know about it. There were some skits that I absolutely howled at!

Hippy: [singing] We dropped some heavy acid, and we thought that it was swell. Spent seventeen years tripping, our world went straight to hell. Woke up, looked around us, found reasons to complain. But we never stopped to think, that maybe somehow we're to blame.
