    Watchable Family Entertainment

While the show is about God and being a good Christian, it does it in some ways unlike other cheesy, low grade Christian media. The production value is quite good and it tends to feature a musical number to hammer the point of the episode home

It is a nice nod back to the 80s/90s The New Adventures of McGee and Me only have 3 episodes where Nick is older but most of the cast remains

Decent, passable entertainment, I can watch it continually and not get tired of them

A contemporary Christian view of the plot outline and summary

. This series is an upfront Christian presentation about the world of an eleven year old boy named Nicholas and his little cartoon friend McGee. Nicholas is a completely normal kid who uses a passage from Bible to learn about life's everyday issues. In the 12 episodes (each 30 minutes long) Nicholas learns:

-telling lies hurts others, especially if the lie is mistaken for the truth.

-the value of being humble and accepting that some people have certain talents you don't.

-the value of obedience and being wise when making decisions

-the value of showing love and kindness to others--no matter who they are.

-when you trust in God you never have to worry about being alone or afraid.

-jealousy causes a lot of hurt, anger, and frustration--especially for the one who's jealous.

-about the process and the payoff of making right (and wrong) decisions.

-the importance of keeping things in the right perspective and putting faith in God, not people.

-about God's love for people who are hard to love.

-about courage and where to find it.

-the importance of caring for others and "loving your neighbor as yourself".

-about making choices and hopefully discovering what's really important in the process.

The series can be ordered individually or as a set from chrbook.com or from the producers: Focus on the Family/Tyndale House.

Charming Story of Boy and his Imaginary Friend

Amusing stories of a boy artist and his imaginary cartoon character and friend. In each episode he,with the help of his friend, comes to terms with a moral dilemma, but the treatment of the issues is lighthearted and in no way preaches at the audience.

    loved this!

OMG! I totally grew up watching McGee and Me. It's a great show for kids even nowadays, even though it was made in the 80's. I remember I used to watch the tornado episode over and over and over again. It is really one of the best shows for kids to watch. It always teaches some lesson, and I thought McGee was hilarious. And the whole idea of the boy (don't remember his name) creating McGee is really fantastic because it promotes creativity and imagination. Yeah, I just really really liked this show growing up, and I would highly recommend this show for anybody who has children. Like I said before, it really is one of the best shows for kids. And also watch the tornado episode. It's amazing!

As far as Christian entertainment goes, it's actually good

    Review Re-written October 12th, 2024

I was born into a Christian household and had limited access to mainstream entertainment growing up in the 90s. So, a show like McGee & me was a common viewing experience. Despite it's limited reach, usually staying within a lot of church libraries, it was actually a good series. Not a really good series, but not cringe or cheap. Focus on the Family actually had a budget for it.

The series didn't have very many episodes, and only had 2 seasons, one from 1989-1990, and in 1992, in which 3 episodes were made. Each episode centers around Nicholas Martin, a young man who aspires to become an artist, and draws a character named McGee, a goofy sidekick who's there to provide guidance and moral support.

To sum the show up, it's got a lot of common elements to shows like Clarissa explains it all. Nick is the connection between the story and the audience. Throughout the show, Nick learns several lessons and morals, going through a series of adventures.

It's all available for free viewing on YouTube, and there's a secular, made for TV version of the show that removes all the religious references if you're interested.

    • Trivia
Johnny Green (Derek) was actually caught smoking a Marlboro cigarette by a Focus on the Family executive. Green was nearly fired but show producers persuaded Focus on the Family otherwise because they invested so much into the Derek Cryder character. Because of this Derek's character changes as the series progresses from evil to good.
    • Quotes

Phillip Monroe Jr.: Don't tell Mrs. Herman, but he's making me give the answers to the geography quiz.

Nicolas 'Nick' Martin: Figures. I guess he can't remember big words like "Ohio".

    • Alternate versions
Some prints of the VHS tapes contain a different version of the opening sequence, where the title card has a plain brown background instead of the animated purple design. Additionally, the Bible that Nick reads before the show says "The Way", while other versions say "The Bible".
