One of the best Bollywood movie of 80s

This film was not only one of the best movie of Amitabh Bachchan but also of Bollywood film industriy released in 80s. Film was a remake of tamil film Oru Kaidhiyin Diary starring Kamal haasan but it is one film where remake was better than original. Hindi remake has better execution of script and also has impressive dialogues by Rahi masoom raza. Climax of movie is also different from original and better. As it was directed by the screenplay writer of original movie, probably he corrected some mistakes of his own script and added few scene with good dialogues. Each and every dialogue of movie is impressive like one other Hindi film Sholay. Film is a revenge drama in which an old man released from jail after 24 yrs for a crime he didn't committed takes revenge on the people responsible for murder and rape of his wife and falsely implicating him.in all those years he thought of taking revenge with the help of his son who has been brought up by his close friend and who has promised to make him a dreaded criminal but upon his release he found out that his friend has betrayed him and his son is now a police officer. Now he has no option but to execute revenge himself and both father and his son are standing on the opposite sides of law.

      Revenge at its Fullest !

Amitabh has done a good job, in the father role (David), although he is shown aged and with a rugged beard. Amitabh always outperforms in angry, emotionally charged and frantically suspenseful roles. While portraying anguished roles in tough situations ridden with crises and brazen suspense, Amitabh is second to none.

His dialogue delivery and screen presence is a feast for the eyes when he utters the deep rooted words with stoic vengeance bursting from his moist smoldering eyes. He has always excelled in melodramatic and angry scenes which happens to be the culmination of his acting prowess.

With Dewaar, Sholay, Shakti and Kabhi Kabhi(to a lessor extent), this movie qualifies to be a must see picture, with all the suspense which would defy Alfred Hitchcock's effects and all the melodrama which would overshadow the skills of William Wyler.

      The Multi-talented Amitabh Bachchan.

Aakhree Raasta is a crime drama film written and directed by K. Bhagyaraj. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Prada, Late Sridevi, Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, Bharat Kapoor and Sadashiv Amrapurkar.

A man is falsely accused of his wife's murder and imprisoned. When he sets out to seek revenge, he finds a police officer on his trail who turns out to be his own son.

This is one of the biggest hits of 80s and the one of major reason is Amitabh Bachchan and this film should be considered as one of his underrated film in terms of his acting particularly the older version in which he was very much impressive.

The plot of the film is good and the execution is also good. The film despite of it's length which is close to three hours keeps you engrossed and nowhere it's felt that the film is derailing from it's path. This film is a revenge drama and the best part of the film is that romantic scenes are kept very limited in the film due to which the pace and momentum of film is never gets disturbed.

Acting is superb and apart from Amitabh Bachchan almost everyone was equally impressive in their respective character be it Jaya Prada, Sridevi, Sadashiv Amrapurkar or Anupam kher who also gives some comic relief and was stupendous in his character.

Music and BGM are good and song like 'Gori ka Sajan" is still very popular. Screenplay of the film is fast and gripping and climax of the film is excellent.

The action scenes are choreographed very well and the way Old Amitabh takes his revenge is been superbly shown. The emotional scene between Old Amitabh and Sridevi is impressive and displays how multidimensional actor Amitabh is as he is also romancing Sridevi in his younger version but still you'll feel as the father of Amitabh is on screen speaking with her. A film mix of lots of emotion with drama, action and some comedy.

A must watch film for all the Amitabh fans.

      AB awesome , Sridevi good

Film was well made , AB was the star of the movie , no doubt , but again Sridevi's brilliance cannot be ignored. Again , when ever Sridevi on screen , film's level is lifted.

A great film with his greatest performance

When Amitabh did the film Shakti with Dilip Kumar, it was the passing of the torch from the previous champion to the reigning champion. People spoke of how the old master had outdone the new champion with his performance. 14 years later we were to see an older Amitabh with the role reversed. Who would be the actor to reprise the role of the young upstart? Step forward... Amitabh!!! The performances given by Amitabh in the dual role are better than the performances given by Amitabh and Dilip in Shakti.

I watched the entire film with a tear in my eye. When you put yourself in the father's position what would you do? Or as the son, could you really follow duty given the circumstances? I know that I couldn't...

This film is very well made and performances are strong. If I was asked to recommend a film to show a great performance from Amitabh, this would be it. I would recommend this film over Sholay, Deewar and even my all time favourite Amitabh movie... Agneepath. Just get hold of a copy of this film and see a master of cinema give a devastating performance.

' AAKHREE RAASTA ' is still considered as Amitabh Bachchan's one of the finest performances to date .
      • Goofs
When Vijay and IGP were watching the footage from the CCTV to prevent David from killing Dr. Varma, there was no audio from any of them. However, there was an audio from the two constables boasting that David will kill Dr. Varma even if Vijay and IGP made special arrangements made to prevent it from happening and that they will lose their jobs. So it's unrealistic how that audio was heard while the other screens did not have any audio at all.
