"Bolji Zivot" or "Better Life" is probably the coping stone of Sinisa Pavic's screenplay writing career. It also became a symbol for Serbian TV humorist series style which unfortunately has survived up to present days and continues to push on in many, often deformed, alterations.
Quality is poor, acting is nothing special, direction unimaginative to the least, but for some reason people like to watch "Bolji Zivot" on and on, no matter how many times Serbian state television reruns it to fill up the blanks in programming. Still, with all it's flaws, "Bolji Zivot" has got some story, and at times it can be bright-witted and even original. Yet another representation of an average Serbian family with it's ups and downs in everyday life challenges. The reason for it's popularity probably lies in the actuality of the context, placed in the late 80s Yugoslavia, and the prediction of turbulent times which would follow eventually. It is also a good time machine for those nostalgic for life in communist Yugoslavia, and their numbers are growing by the years.
Did I like it? Can't say that I have, even so, I didn't mind watching it and I still don't. Compared to Pavic's creations that followed, "Bolji Zivot" really looks fresh and smart.

Bolji Zivot means "a Better Life" in Serbo-Croatian. This is a movie about a typical middle class family in 1980's yugoslavia. They are struggling to adopt themselves to reforms that are happening in yugoslavia troughout the 80's. It is a real life drama mixed with humorous adventures.
Legendary actors, legendary roles, and tons of nostalgia. Above all, it is a study of Yugoslav society as it entered its crisis and headed towards collapse. Younger generations will learn everything they need to know about this period by watching this series, and the rest of us, who remember these times, will ponder how it is possible for everything and everyone to change. And we will wonder why this change has relentlessly been for the worse.
When it was originaly aired in 1887 i was still young and had other interests so did not watch ,maybe only few episodes .After 34 years i finally watched first 60 episodes (still 20 to go ) ,i was on 14 day cryise and did not have internet so carry this series for me to watch in cabin and i was hooked ,watched first 60 episodes in that 14 days .
And i like sad in title is masterpiece. Story is about.one awerage Belgrade family and inheritance they should recive. Try the series we see lives off different people from different socials status from Yugoslavia in it final years try humor but also drama and how they lives intersect .But its all great described that it could also be a documentary ,bringed my own personal memories some long forgotten and hit me hard with heavy nostalgia becase since then social relations have changed ,country have change ,system has changed and most off it has changed for much worst then it was but try series you could also see how that system which was build for 50 years was collapsing little by little and that future is not what they hoped for.
Actors are legendary ,many off them not with us any more.
