Fabio Frizzi is heading back out on the road with Zombie: Composer’s Cut.
The Italian composer will perform his reworked soundtrack to Lucio Fulci‘s 1979 cult classic live as the film screens for a second leg of North America tour dates in the spring.
“The September gallop was so beautiful that we thought to complete the tour in spring,” said Frizzi. “It will be once again Zombie: Composer’s Cut, the live score on the legendary film by Lucio Fulci, and then the usual foray into the other soundtracks. Below is the list of new events, new merch, new encores, surprises and news. We look forward to seeing you all!”

Italian composer Fabio Frizzi began paying tribute to frequent collaborator Lucio Fulci with a live show titled Frizzi 2 Fulci in 2013, which paved the way for The Beyond: Composer’s Cut in 2022. Following its success, the maestro began working on a composer’s cut for another Fulci classic.
Zombie: Composer’s Cut features Frizzi’s reworked score to Fucli’s 1979 film performed live to a screening of the film, transforming a mere movie viewing into a concert experience. Currently touring the US, I ate up the performance at Sonia in Cambridge, Ma on September 7.
The new soundtrack isn’t wall-to-wall music; Frizzi smartly opted to stay true to his original score — the oft-reprised prog rock main theme, the eerie synthesizer soundscapes, the tribal rhythms that evoke a voodoo curse — with some reinterpretation and expansion along the way. The music occasionally overpowers the dialogue, but Fulci often placed more importance on style than plot anyway.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” currently playing in theaters.
Zachary Levi returns as Billy Baston/Shazam in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.” In the DC superhero sequel, a trio of vindictive sorceresses called the Daughters of Atlas — led by Helen Mirren as Hespera, Lucy Liu as Kalypso and Rachel Zegler as Anthea — want to avenge their father and take back the power of the gods they believe was stolen from Shazam and his crew.
David F. Sandberg directs and, in true superhero style, peppers easter eggs throughout the film for the most eagle-eyed superhero fans.
Here are a few that we spotted.

Italian maestro Fabio Frizzi has composed more than 100 scores over the course of his 50+ year career, including features, shorts, and television, but he’s most well known for his work with Italian horror legend Lucio Fulci. Intermittently since 2013, Frizzi has paid tribute to his late friend and frequent collaborator with a live band dubbed Frizzi 2 Fulci.
“Fulci started to give me this heritage, and I try to use it in the best way,” he told me at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, Ma on September 17, where he was being honored with the Coolidge After Midnite Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the genre. The evening also included a Frizzi 2 Fulci concert and a midnight screening of Fulci’s Zombie.

Made famous by directors such as Dario Argento, Mario Bava, and Lucio Fulci, Giallo (an Italian term) movies are murder mystery/horror thriller affairs that have always had a cult following. Unfortunately, there are very few modern Giallo movies made so I was pleased to see Nightmare Symphony get a release… and be able to review it!
Nightmare Symphony, a tribute to Lucio Fulci’s Nightmare Concert/A Cat in the Brain, in which Fulci himself played a tortured horror filmmaker haunted by his own bloody horror film visions; follows a director attempting to finish making his film while someone or something is killing off the people trying to finance and help him make it.

Guest reviewer Lee Broughton covers a trio of grisly horrors. The Toolbox Murders, Blood Harvest and A Cat in the Brain each feature a pop culture icon in a leading role. Hollywood actor Cameron Mitchell, oddball 1960s crooner Tiny Tim and the Italo horror director and all-round enfant terrible Lucio Fulci find themselves caught up in their own gory and disturbing splatter show. Perhaps unsurprisingly, all three films fell foul of the British Board of Film Classification at the time of their original release in the UK.

Pazucus: Island of Vomit and Despair is new surreal film from writer and director Gurcius Gewdner, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Saturday 27th January. I got chance to ask Gurcius a few questions about what we can expect, his inspirations and designer vomit bags.
What can we expect from the film?
You can expect a different movie, a different experience. A mix of marginal cinema from Brazil with everything that I find on the way to put it on an insanity blender. I cannot promise that will be enjoyable for everyone, but it is, a different experience, it doesn’t matter if you love or hate. And it needs to be watched till the end, to capture the full trip, if you leave at the first half, you will not get the full brain damage package. It is a scatological roller coaster of screaming,...

Since any New York cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

We have a busy week of horror and sci-fi entertainment releases to look forward to, especially for those of you cult and indie horror fans out there. Grindhouse Releasing is bringing Lucio Fulci’s insane Cat in the Brain to Blu-ray, and the recent indie thriller Road Games is getting a release on July 12th as well, courtesy of Scream Factory. One of my personal favorites from 2016, Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room arrives on both formats this Tuesday via Lionsgate, and Synapse Films is releasing the recent Creepshow documentary Just Desserts.
Other notable Blu-ray and DVD releases for July 12th include Model Hunger, Slasher: Season One, 13 Cameras, the Steelbook edition of Blood and Black Lace, and Pop Art editions of The Birds, Psycho, and King Kong.

Late Nite Grindhouse has teamed up with our good friends over at Grindhouse Releasing to get a sneak preview of their new restoration of Lucio Fulci’s meta-psychological 1990 film, Cat in the Brain (aka. Nightmare Concert) for our June show!
If you have seen other films directed by Lucio Fulci like The Beyond, House by the Cemetery, Zombie or City of the Living Dead at our previous Late Nite Grindhouse shows, be sure to check out Cat in the Brain. While it wasn’t the gore-meister’s final film, some would say it was one of his last great entries into his filmography. Simply put, Cat in the Brain is an insane film that is difficult to describe. Fulci is a horror filmmaker, as he is in real life, who is driven by violent visions and feels like he is losing his grip on reality. After seeing a psychotherapist, Fulci’s mental vulnerability is exposed.

Deranged killers, gore, Poe, and plenty of Brad Dourif. Here's our pick of 20 great, underappreciated films from the 1990s...
It's sometimes said that the 1990s wasn't a great time for horror films. But while lots of disappointing franchise sequels crowded their way into cinemas or the lower shelves of video stores, there were also plenty of fantastic examples of the familiar chill. Bernard Rose's Candyman was one of the very best of the decade; Wes Craven's New Nightmare was an intelligent reworking of a flagging series; The Ring introduced a new strain of Japanese horror to a global audience.
Then there are the less well-known horror movies from the decade - ones which either didn't do very well in the cinema or didn't make it to the big screen at all. With the exception of one Japanese film, we've gone for a selection of films...

Fabio Frizzi's score for the Lucio Fulci films A Cat in the Brain (Un Gatto Nel Cervello) is being issued on vinyl. The film is Fulci's take on the director-in-turmoil sub-genre made popular by Frederico Fellini's 8 1/2.
Mondo is handling the packaging and distribution and they say Frizzi's "work is a huge part of the reason we got into the soundtrack business in the first place. We are proud to release this soundtrack for the first time ever on vinyl."

Euro Trash movies yield much fun for the ardent fan. Anyone else will be flabbergasted at their low budget production values, salubrious themes and content, dreadful acting, atrocious dubbing and the general air of sleaziness in these films plus their frequent daftness. For the Euro Trash fan, these are endearing things to be cherished in the genre.
However, some Euro Trash movies are so dire, so ridiculously lame that even the most hardcore genre fan’s devotion to cinematic crapulence is sorely tested. Some of these movies are so dreadful, they cannot inspire love in even the most loyal Euro Trash fans. Alternately, they can be so inept as to inspire gales of laughter from game viewers as opposed to groans.
I have listed eight truly diabolical Euro Trash movies below. Please add your own below.

There may be a slight possibility that standards for movie titles have become more lenient over the years, since we can't really fathom an action movie like this week's "Bullet to the Head" coming out in 1954 with a title like that. No sir.
The Sylvester Stallone vehicle does stick in your head for some reason, so we thought we'd dig in and find the most gruesome, lurid and downright threatening movie titles ever conceived. Remember, the criteria here ain't the violent content of the film itself, just its nastified handle.
15. '8 Million Ways to Die' (1986)
The unlikely combination of star Jeff Bridges, screenwriter Oliver Stone and director Hal Ashby ("Harold and Maude") came up with this neo-noir concoction, which failed to ignite at the box office and ultimately served as Ashby's swan song. The film itself has a pulpy, sub-"Miami Vice" plot about an alcoholic ex-detective drawn into a...

The final part in our series on Forgotten Gialli
My problem with the misogyny that runs through the giallo genre is not so much that it's there, but that it's so often unexamined. At least Sam Peckinpah's films seem to tell me something about the demons of insecurity, paranoia and loathing infesting his mind. I'm frustrated, for instance, that Dario Argento has portrayed the graphic mutilation-murder of women in his films so frequently (his own leather-gloved hands doubling for those of the killer), without ever seeming to take much interest in why this subject seems to obsess him. "I love women," he has said, "therefore I would rather show a beautiful woman being killed than an ugly man." Is it just me, or does that statement open up questions, and even paradoxes? For a former critic, Argento seems disinclined to analyze things.
Not only do the films not actively interrogate their own violence,...

Nightmare Concert, aka A Cat In The Brain, is one of legendary director Lucio Fulci's final movies, and what a crappy note to go out on. Nightmare Concert is designed to showcase gore, gore, tits, gore, and more gore, using stock footage from an assortment of different Fulci films, and for gore's sake it works. The story this time around is the weakest point of the film, and put me asleep the first couple times I tried to watch the film. Lucio…...

It's hard to believe that 30 years ago on this day (August 14), the Lucio Fulci directed horehound cult classic The House by the Cemetery was released. This was the first Fulci film I had seen, and after this, I was hooked. I oon watched such classics as Zombie, City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, and more, and I loved every one of them. Yes, even A Cat in the Brain. However, The House by the Cemetery still has a special place in my heart, and I…...

Cult Collectibles in association with Donald H. Randell and www.Dolemiterecords.com are proud to announce the upcoming release of the Official “Rudy Ray Moore is Dolemite” “Weird Wobbler” bobblehead figure.
Cult Collectibles’ owner, Mark Jason Murray, worked with the legendary influential comedian and filmmaker, Rudy Ray Moore in various capacities for over 15 years and continues to work hard in efforts to keep his legacy alive after his passing. Outside of operating Moore’s only official website since 1997 (www.rudyraymoore.com), Murray was granted authorization by Moore to write his official biography, a project over a decade in the making. “Rudy was not only my “idol”, he was my friend and I have always felt he never achieved the success and recognition that he not only wanted so badly for himself, but genuinely deserved,” states Murray. “I continue to dig deeply into Moore’s life and career and look forward...

Jonah Hex; A Serbian Film; Piranha 3D
2010 was an interesting year for comic-book movies, with films as diverse as Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim (one a controversial hit, the other a box-office flop) slyly subverting superhero conventions to entertaining effect. Compared to these sprightly charmers, Jonah Hex (2010, Warner, 15), which commanded glossy front covers prior to its damp-squib release, turned out to be one of the year's biggest disappointments.
Reliably gruff Josh Brolin plays the titular, back-from-the-dead civil war scarface, hellbent on vengeance after his family and visage were torched by evil-haired Confederate slimeball Quentin Turnbull, played in pantomime-dame fashion by John Malkovich. Turnbull is in possession of some newfangled sub-nuclear super weapon which he tests by casually wiping out a small western town, and which he intends to train on the Capitol building of a country sorely in need of a new sheriff. Or something. Meanwhile, Megan Fox's ballsy tart...

With the holiday season just around the corner (can you believe it?), there's one gift that everyone should give: a tiny replica of a horny militant serial-killing puppet who's so naughty he's nice!
From the Press Release
Cult Collectibles is proud to announce the release of its first "Weird Wobbler" bobblehead style figure from one of the most outrageous underground films ever made: Black Devil Doll!
The 2008 film is the story of an executed Black militant who is reincarnated into a vicious ventriloquist’s puppet, causing endless mayhem and murder (to put it mildly). Widely hailed by cult film aficionados and simultaneously condemned for its overt (yet completely tongue-in-cheek) offensiveness, Art Ettinger of Ultra Violent magazine stated, "Black Devil Doll is a triumph, seamlessly blending crass un-pc humor with cerebral artistry. The Lewis Brothers deliver one of the most original exploitation films of the new millennium, a singularly unique mix of brain and brawn.
