Like every other Rolling Stones album dubbed the best since 1978’s Some Girls, Hackney Diamonds features enough cringey lyrics, dodgy guitar riffs, and self-plagiarism (such as Keith Richards playing “Tumbling Dice” at the beginning of “Driving Me Too Hard”) to keep it out of the pantheon of their greatest releases. What parts of the album do capture is a genuinely contemporary flair that the Stones haven’t successfully embodied since they triangulated the emerging threads of punk and disco back in the late 1970s.
The album’s crisp, booming drums, hooky choruses, and livewire vocals have a radio-ready sheen without feeling forced, or compromising the Stones’s essential traits. The opening track, “Angry,” hardens the edges around a shiny pop-forward hook with a hit of stadium swagger and a roiling outro that piles on knotty guitar solos from Richards and Ronnie Wood. The fact that the Stones don’t sound...

Not counting their blues covers record from 2016, the last time the Rolling Stones bequeathed us with an album of fresh material was during George W. Bush’s presidency. That record, 2006’s A Bigger Bang, was feisty but not especially memorable, and in the nearly two decades since, maybe even the Stones started to wonder if we needed another record by them. If they were going to drag themselves (and us) through the process again, and after such a long gap, they also must have known they’d have to make it worth everyone’s while.

The Rolling Stones played Detroit’s Ford Field on Monday night, and they honored the city’s musical roots by covering the 1966 Temptations classic “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.”

Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.

In 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, the rock-obsessed duo played by Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves worship Eddie Van Halen and fantasize that one day he’ll join the band. In real life, the film’s writers hoped to cast the guitar god as a major role in the movie. We spoke to Alex Winter about the moment he discovered Van Halen as a teenager and the impact he had on the film series.
My awakening to Van Halen came in ‘78. I had moved to New York City from the Midwest.

Last summer, Jameson Rodgers was on the road opening for Luke Combs. This week he’s singing with the country superstar on a new collaboration, Rodgers’ ode to chilling out “Cold Beer Calling My Name.” It’s a natural fit, considering one of Combs’ signature hits is titled “Beer Never Broke My Heart” (the pair are also friends).
Opening with some jagged guitars that call to mind Jason Aldean more than the Nineties vibes of Combs, “Cold Beer Calling My Name” finds Rodgers singing about driving fast into an endless night.

British police have had to issue a tongue-in-cheek statement confirming that they have ruled out actor David Schwimmer as a suspect in a theft case after posting a “wanted” picture of someone who bore a striking resemblance to the “Friends” star.
Social media users took to Twitter and Facebook in droves after the original picture was posted on the Blackpool Police’s Facebook page on Tuesday. The force said they wanted to speak to the unidentified man about a theft at a local restaurant. “Do you recognise this man?” the post asked. Many people thought they did, or at least spied a resemblance.
The post has now received 124,000 comments, and counting. “I don’t think it’s been this guy’s day, his week, his month or even his year,” one person wrote – part of the deluge of “Friends” references and Ross quotes. “The one where Ross steals beer,” someone else snickered.

James Bay warmed up the crowd at London’s Twickenham Stadium before The Rolling Stones took the stage last night. But after Bay’s opening set, Stones frontman Mick Jagger invited him back onstage to perform a duet of the band’s hit “Beast of Burden.” The song, originally from 1978’s “Some Girls” album, saw a second life in 1984 when it became a radio and MTV hit for Bette Midler.
Before the show started, Keith Richards chatted with Bay and showed the singer some of his pre-show rituals.
After the performance, Bay took to Instagram to thank The Rolling Stones, citing the impact and influence the band has had on his career thus far. “This band has probably shaped the way I make music and perform more than anyone else,” Bay wrote. “Their relentless passion and energy on stage is so inspiring. I can’t believe last night was real.

“All the films in this book share an air of disreputability… I have tried to avoid using the word art about the movies in this book, not just because I didn’t want to inflate my claims for them, but because the word is used far too often to shut down discussion rather than open it up. If something has been acclaimed as art, it’s not just beyond criticism but often seen as above the mere mortals for whom its presumably been made. It’s a sealed artifact that offers no way in. It is as much a lie to claim we can be moved only by what has been given the imprimatur of art as it would be to deny that there are, in these scruffy movies, the very things we expect from art: avenues into human emotion and psychology, or into the character and texture of the time the films were made,...

When asked which of the two actors made everyone laugh most on set, Rohrbach tells People Now that Efron and Johnson are funny in different ways, and that they usually work as a team to crack a joke.
“Dwayne comes in with the one-liners, and Zac is more of the prankster,” she says.

Since saying “Bye, Bye, Bye” in 2002, Justin Timberlake, Jc Chasez, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick have each built careers for themselves outside of ‘Nsync — the blockbuster boyband that brought them worldwide fame in the ’90s.
Though there aren’t plans for the group to get back together and make music any time soon, they’re still good friends — reuniting most recently in August for Chasez’s 40th birthday bash.
“The guys spent the entire night together,” a source told People at the time. “They all sat in a group and just reunited, relived and had such a ball.

In Only Child, Santiago Palavecino takes an oft-filmed, still significant subject -- the children of the "disappeared" men and women of the Argentinian dictatorships -- and ambitiously gives it the kind of radically personal stylistic twist which is all-too easily labeled "pretentious." And in stretches, it is indeed just that -- but in other stretches it’s intriguing, in others baffling, in others potent and in others striking. What this artistically bolder follow-up to Some Girls never quite achieves, largely because of sometimes bewildering flashbacks and ellipses, is full coherence.

There are different themes and moods associated with each season that, aside from the weather, make them remarkably different from one another. Summer in particular is associated with vitality, energy, and joy, while winter, in contrast, is most linked to death, lethargy, and hopelessness. These seasonal moods extend to all aspects of pop culture like movies and music too. Albums like 808s and Heartbreak, Reflektor, and Led Zeppelin IV are clearly winter albums, while Some Girls, True Blue, and Californication are without question summer albums.
Even comic books reflect this trend as some are more fit for particular seasons or times of the day than others. Some comics like Daredevil and Batman are nighttime books, while Superman and Amazing Spider-Man are daytime books. Batman Red Rain should be read around Halloween, while The Ultimates and The Ultimates 2 are the comic book equivalent of summer blockbusters. Below is my list of...

Legendary country star Merle Haggard died Wednesday on his 79th birthday, a coincidence that wouldn't seem out of place in one of Haggard's many indispensable contributions to country music. But Haggard didn't just pen hits like "Okie from Muskogee," "Sing Me Back Home" and "Mama Tried." He fundamentally altered the course of country music on a granular level, introducing a sonic blueprint that would come to be known as "the Bakersfield sound," a rough-hewn counterpoint to the sweeter sounds coming out of Nashville at the same time. Born in Bakersfield, California, to Dust Bowl migrants from Oklahoma, Haggard spent large...

A medium-height, slightly nervous, shy-seeming, fast-talking man, Gaspar Noé doesn’t really announce himself as the formally audacious director behind some of this millennium’s most assaultive and, speaking broadly, extreme narrative films. Perhaps that (altogether friendly) personality more clearly befits his latest film, Love. What’s been referred to for the years of its development as a “3D porn movie,” but hews closer to Last Tango in Paris or The Mother and the Whore: a slow, sad, and only intermittently confrontational picture that mostly uses its format as a tool for rendering spaces and memories more immediate. The inevitably downbeat ending, communicated early, lends the sex an uncomfortable air — one where even 3D cum shots carry a certain sort of melancholy.
Despite his work’s general reliance on images over words, Noé is a very verbose artist, taking a question about one thing and providing an answer about two others.

There’s a very good chance that netball was one of the sports that was compulsory at your school. Not only was it inclusive and fairly easy to play, but it also required little equipment and had a low injury rate tanks to the comparative lack of contact. Inevitably, being forced into it meant that a lot of girls instantly hated it on principle, but such is the power of the sport that once it got its little claws hooked into you, that was it for you. Endless love.
As a teenager, working hard wasn’t at the top of everyone’s agenda and you would rather focus on how you look, your popularity and your love interest. Bad Boys 3, billed as Bad Boys for Life, will see Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back together in January 2020.
Bad Boys 3 or Bad Boys for Life, has been, up until now, a long-kept secret. The difficulty, as producer Jerry Bruckheimer said back in summer 2013, centered on the task of reuniting its duo headlining personnel. Back then, he was "trying to find a hole in Will Smith's schedule."
Having finally overcome dilatory issues, the long-awaited threequel revives the popular buddy cop film franchise of 1995's Bad Boys and 2003's Bad Boys II, both of which were directed by Michael Bay. While he ultimately dropped out of directing the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence revival vehicle, he would be replaced by a duo of up-and-comers in Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

It doesn’t matter what kind of girl you are: a girlie-girl, a tomboy, a lover of rock music, a girl with tattoos, a girl with rainbow hair. When your body clock decides it’s time, well, it’s time, and that’s just the end of it.
You’ve decided you want a baby.
Some girls grow up knowing their main goal in life is to eventually become a mother. Didn’t you have friends at school who constantly reeled off lists of their favourite boys and girls names, who had siblings and cousins with their own babies which meant their whole lives were full of babies? Didn’t you used to think you’d never be one of those girls who devoted their time to wanting a child? You were sure you’d be ambitious, a career lady, an independent female off gallivanting around the world exploring unknown places.

If wedding bouquet-catching were an Olympic sport, a special spot would be reserved for Jamie Jackson at the top of the podium. The 37-year-old Salt Lake City, Utah, woman has been to more than 80 weddings, catching the bridal bouquet a record 46 times, edging out other single women in the room like a defensive back intercepting a touchdown pass. The irony, of course, is that Jackson is still single. "I've pretty much crushed that 'next-to-be-married' myth," she tells People. "I've had boyfriends, sure. But I'm liking the single life. Besides, if I were married, I'd have to give up my favorite sport.

Kimmel made his debut on the episode by entering Chris's temporary home and waking him from a shirtless slumber. "What the f---," said Chris, pointing in Kimmel's face. In that moment, Chris basically summed up the episode ahead.
