    A recycled message

This movie serves one purpose and one purpose only, and that is to teach people that steroids are bad for you. This has been tried so many times before, the whole message begins to lose its meaning. So the writers decided to make it more appealing by adding in a bus-load of profanity and an occasional sexual remark ("some guys would give their left nut to be where you are"). However, none of this helps. How many times do you have to tell us that steroids can kill you? Sure, there's still some idiots who see this and continue taking them, but to the rest of us it's just a recycled message.

    a powerful cautionary tale

This is one film that I feel has been really overlooked. Both Broilns give great performances and people who just remember Josh from his role in The Goonies will really be shocked. His character is basically a likeable kid just driven to win. I think this film says something about how we pressure our young atheletes to bring home the Gold at all costs. Its surely a warnig to heed. Not to give anything away, but the fact that this film does not have a happy ending really helps. It gets your attention, makes it more realistic and really stays in your mind long after the final credits.
