    Good but Short Lived

This was a good but short lived, about two guys who dislike each other having to co-host a radio show together. It only lasted one season or maybe even less, because it did not find an audience, but it was good. Jack Warden was great.

    Never Given a Fair Chance

I think that this program was a summer replacement that only aired for a few (or possibly just one) episodes. I don't think I ever saw anything more than the first episode. I do remember that me and my family all liked it very much.

The premise is that Hank Knight (Jack Warden) and Everett Daye (Mason Adams) were a radio comedy team in the fifties. They had a falling out and hadn't spoken to one another for many years. Flash forward to present day: A radio station is trying to launch a program which will reunite them, only the two of them still resent one another and have very bruised egos. Their gradual reconciliation is the crux of the show.

The plot is very similar to that of "The Sunshine Boys," and the humor which Knight and Daye use on their radio show is quite reminiscent of the comedy team, Bob and Ray.

The most memorable aspect of the show to me was the open credits. It was a montage of old photographs of the team throughout their career. The initial photos show the two men performing for the radio and it is clear that they are good friends and quite happy with one another. As time progresses, though, they begin looking tenser and tenser, and the final photograph shows one of them attacking the other one in the middle of a radio studio. All the while, the song, "Night and Day" is playing in the background. It was a really funny way to open the show. I wish the show had been given more of a chance.

There was more than one episode made...

I liked the show also. I think I saw most or all the episodes, but I have no idea if they were ever broadcast in the US. If I had to guess on the number of episodes I saw I would say about six to eight but it's been a long time ago so I don't remember for sure.

I was in the military and watched it on what was called FEN (Far East Network) run by the DOD. I didn't see it there until 1990 or so but we were usually a couple years behind what they were showing on network TV.

The show was very good and I liked how that the main characters' personalities (Daye: Quiet, hardworking, by-the-book, and Knight: extroverted and more of a hell-raiser) complimented each other and made for a good radio program, but also caused them to drive each other up the wall frequently. The supporting cast was pretty good as well.
