    S1.E0 ∙ Pilot: Siege-Side Special

    Fri, May 12, 1989
The episode begins with a continuity announcement from BBC 2, announcing the historic first crossing-over to KYTV's feed. The KYTV continuity announcer (caught in the middle of a tantalizingly rude-sounding news item) tells us that the embassy of the Turks & Caicos Islands has been taken over by terrorists. Then he throws to a commercial for Nutty Choc.

Mike Flex welcomes us to KYTV's "Siege Side Special", and throws to Mike Channel, doing on-the-spot reporting outside the embassy.

Anna Daptor shows us the results of a poll on what action should be taken to end the siege, does a remote interview with the Police Commissioner outside the besieged embassy, then throws to Martin Brown who interviews Sir Antony Trollope, MP. Martin then sets off for the embassy, and we get a commercial for the KYTV satellite dish.

Mike Flex leads a panel discussion of experts who'd rushed over as soon as they realized there was a chance of getting on TV. They're interrupted for a statement from the Prime Minister, after which, we return to the panel discussion, which includes a dramatic reconstruction of events leading up to the siege.

Throw to Mike Channel, interviewing a man about to enter the embassy to discuss things with the terrorists. It's Martin Brown, who is well-equipped for the job, as he knows how to say two things in Arabic, one of which is "My pencil is on the floor".

Anna Daptor has some important news. Then, Mike Flex interviews Mr. X., a man who knows the terrorists.

Throw to Mike Channel, who tells us that since Martin went in, the terrorists have taken another hostage.

Anna Daptor gives us a selection of viewers' letters, and Mike Flex tells us to stay tuned for what will undoubtedly be an all-out SAS-style assault on the embassy. After a KYTV station ident, we return to Mike Flex and the panel discussion, which includes questions from the studio audience.

There follows a rundown of the Top-10 Holy Creeds of the terrorist sect, which, curiously, has a new Number 1 Creed.

Another commercial. This one features Mary and June, and is for Nappy Blot.

Back to Mike Channel, with dramatic news from the embassy. The terrorist guarding Martin Brown, alone in a locked room, has just committed a violent act.

Mike Flex and Anna Daptor announce the KYTV "Guess the Combined Weight of the Hostages" competition.

Back to the panel discussion, which includes another KYTV bumper. The General presents his plan for ending the siege. Mike Flex isn't impressed.

Throw back to Mike Channel at the embassy, where the siege has suddenly ended, and all of the hostages have been released...except one.

After the closing credits, the KYTV continuity announcer throws back to BBC 2, as KYTV viewers get to watch "Naked Women Wrestling in Mud".
