I watched this with my mom a few different times when I was young. It would make me hug her a little tighter and I'd feel more appreciative of what I have after viewing. The twists and turns are truly great in this story. The kids acting is defiantly good enough, some 80's movies just capture THAT vibe.

Great Movie

My cousins and I have watched this movie ever since we were little. I don't know exactly what it is about this movie, but we latched on to this endearing movie and it has become a special part of our family's memories.

I totally and absolutely recommend this movie to anyone who likes good wholesome family movies because that is exactly what this is. The things that the four kids get themselves into is absolutely hilarious to watch. It is an old movie but don't let that fool you. This is one of the best movies out there that shows such strong sibling bond for each other.

there has never been a more touching film

I havent seen a good film lately that could beat the value of this movie! I notice you cant find it any where thank goodness I have it already! I am a big 80's fan even though I was born 1984! and dont remeber the 80's much! I loved this movie and I recommend it to everyone!

Personal experience

As a former foster This movie is very relatable. Haven't seen it in YEARS. But...unfortunately, it is in my head. I don't need to see it over and over again. I know. I feel.

The foster care system, is messed up in this country. Be it California, Washington, or Florida. They do not care for children, they don't care if siblings stay together or if they are even in the same school district.

They also don't care about a child's happiness. So, when you sit down to watch this movie, realize that a foster is probably not happy in his placement. That parent really doesn't care. I had amazing parents and got torn away, because I am an "Indian." Their words...

Best Movie Ever

The Commenter before me stated this movie is the worst that was ever forced upon him/her as a child. I have to say though that I loved this movie when was little and I still love it today. The movie has the best running theme of all-family togetherness. Considering the time period the movie was released I thought the movie was acted out well. I only wish I could still find a copy of it somewhere!! Of all the 1980's films I watched as a kid this was on of my favorites. I know I probably watched it at least once a week with my brother and my mom. I would definitely recommend it to anyone I know-or don't know. So if you do find a copy of it I suggest watching it! It's wonderful and heartwarming.

When Jack asks Mitch to get off the bus, Mitch's line "Why should I?" clearly does not match his mouth (he in fact says "go to hell").

The film's video rights were picked up in 1989 by Feature Films for Families, a video distribution company closely associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The video release was heavily re-edited, and an additional framing device was filmed by the distributor in which Peggy's mother, over the phone, recounts the events of the film and provides commentary which often contradicts the film itself. This was likely in an attempt to place the film within the views of the LDS Church. Director Lyman Dayton removed his name from the Feature Films for Families version, credited instead as "F.T. Pavlov".
