    Fantastic

Due to the overwhelming quality of TV shows and films in the 80s, I suppose producers missed out on adding more seasons which is a big big shame since this beats Knight Rider by a long shot. The actors are great and nothing like their excellent talents is on screen today. Sam Jones is a fantastic actor the whole package weird I never saw him before this. Jetto was also unknown to me but his presence is indicative of the 80s love for all things Aussie. His life story is worth checking out as he couldnt read or write when he came to Hollywood to shoot this awesome show. We all definitely are sad that this show only had one single season, but were also happy that at least that was created. Script, stunts, the trucks and cars, storyline, directing, 80s film quality, its all awesome. The Highwaymen are part of the US Marshal service, because it was mentioned the agency they work for is not mentioned elsewhere on IMDB.

    Some fine 80s cheese

If you are not into classic Sci-Fi shows from the 80s that are rather cheesy, do yourself a favor and just don't watch "The Highwayman". But if you like this kind of shows, if it reminds you of your childhood - go take a look! Yes, some of the SFX was outdated maybe 10 years before this show started, but damn, a truck with a helicopter in it! When I saw that as a child I knew i would love that show.

The 80s atmosphere in the episodes is thick, some sequences doesn't even seem to belong to the real world. Is the Highwayman really guarding the streets? Or is he a hero in some kind of a dreamland? Some in-between limbo maybe? Who knows...

Imo, Sam Jones is doing a great job as the though lead actor here, and Jacko as Jetto - yeah, yeah, I know he's not a real actor, but b(OY!) does he add some lunatic charm to this show. So, all in all, this is not a hit show from the past that everyone has seen and everyone remembers (like "Knight Rider", which is still around as a rerun every now and then), but believe me, it's worth a view!

    Best TV-Series ever made

I liked this TV-Series because it was always something new, it had a lot excitement and those Trucks were absolutely great for 1987, not to mention Sam J. Jones as the "Highwayman". Sam J. Jones really fit the role as a Lawman. I wished they would pickup this series and at least re-released it as part of the 80's-90's cult movies. I hope one day it will get a sequel with the "One & Only Highwayman" - Sam J. Jones.

Part of trend that happened at the end.

The '80s were full of niche programming. This show happened to be one of car-focused action shows that followed in the steps of Knight Rider, The A-Team, Airwolf, Street Hawk, Dukes of Hazzard, and very possibly Automan. The show, obviously a retread of Automan (which featured a holographic helicopter and Lamborghini), a torquing of an idea from the "Goliath" episodes of Knight Rider, or a combination between Knight Rider and Airwolf, the show's only fault was that it came at the very end of this tread and wasn't long for this world. If it came out three years earlier, it would be easily ran for 13 episodes plus and had a better run. And I'm quite surprised nobody mentioned the car that came out of the bottom of the semi trailer and sped off.

Here's hoping this comes out on DVD along with many other '80s one shot efforts.

    Nice truck

The truck with the helicopter built in was really neat. But beyond that the show never really found its niche.

    • Trivia
The Highwayman's real name was never revealed in any of the installments. Nor was the United States government agency that employed him specifically identified.
    • Goofs
Costner and Harrelson were in a big dirt open area chasing Bonnie and Clyde. When they got out of their car, Costner stood on the hood at 1:12:31. There are no obvious tire tracks behind their car although there were many clear tire tracks all around them as they were driving in circles and trying to catch Bonnie and Clyde.
