    Sleazy, Extreme and Gritty Sequel

I love a sequel that not only ups the ante regarding the original film but decides to be as extreme as possible and really 'go for it'.

In this film theres a new family who move into Amityville. You know that any family that includes Burt Young and Rutanya Alda as members is going to be dysfunctional. And, by Christ, I mean VERY dysfunctional. Any film that deals with incest is going to be special. Theres also a domestic violence subplot which is just as shocking.

Add to that some of the grossest special effects as the teenage son is possessed and transformed into an utter beast of a nightmarish character and you have a great, twisted and truly messed up (in a good way) sequel.

I remember this having one of the most disturbing sleeves of any horror video in my local video stores which instantly made me want to investigate this further.

There is also a scene involving a Sony Walkman which freaked me out so much that it made me question using mine for days after seeing this filth classic.

Don't miss this messed up gem of a movie.

    Better then the first movie

I am not a huge fan of the Amityville Horror (1979), it was okay movie but not that scary, as it was made out to be.

This movie starts of with a new family moving in to the house, a father and mother and four kids, two daughters and two sons.

At first everything seem normal, until the strange things start to happen to younger two kids, as the house messed one room up but father dose not believe the kids and then he hits the poor kids, then eldest son, then point a shotgun at is father to make him stop what he doing.

(I have never hated anyone, as much as I hated the father in this movie).

Soon after Sonny the oldest of the sons, start to act a bit at strange and start to feel sick, then while the whole family is out, we see how becomes possessed by the house.

Small spoiler, I liked the scenes, where we see Sonny get possessed by the house,

when we see him screaming in pain, when he stomach he being press down by the unseen evil force, was really good scene, that was scary and really dark

that is one the reason i liked this movie more then first and this is a lot more darker then first movie and the acting was outstanding from everyone

I would have give this movie 10 but I find the ending, a tad boring and disappointing.

so I am going to give this movie a 8 out of 10

If You Liked The Exorcist & The Original Amityville

If you enjoyed The Exorcist and the original Amityville Horror film then you might get a kick out of Amityville 2: The Possession. This movie is based on the story of Ronald DeFeo Jr., the man that killed his family in real life - he was tried and convicted of 2nd Degree Murder.

The original Amityville Horror film is based on the real story of George and Kathy Lutz who left the home 28 days after of living there - claiming it was haunted.

It is safe to say that Amityville 2 is a prequel to Amityville Horror. Both films are worth watching if you like haunted houses and demon possession stories.

The hands down best Amityville film.

Man did this movie ever scare the crap out of me as a kid! staying up late watching this on cable along with the original. Returning to it these many years later I still find it fun and probably the best Amityville film. While the second half obviously can't hang with the first, as the movie pretty much turns into a full blown Exorcist ripoff. The spirits this time around are more vicious and there's a lot of uncomfortable moments and some great filmmaking with a lot of cool camera angles and the presence of baby Diane Franklin, and Burt Young (who is hardcore channeling his Rocky character here) make it a great view.

    Unusual Horror

I liked "The Possession" more than the original. Part one was so phony that it was even comical in parts (not to mention the over-acting). Part two contains more real life horrors such as incest, child abuse, domestic violence and mental illness. Yes, it is loosely based on the DeFeo case. However, I believe the director avoided direct links to the incident because of possible lawsuits. One disagreement I have with William C. Uchtman is when he stated in his review that Ronald DeFeo Sr. was a swell guy. Well according to "City Confidential" on A&E, the father was very abusive and was reported to have beaten "Butch" to a bloody pulp one time for simply talking back at the dinner table. Wife beatings were also reported. So, the abuse scenes are quite valid. The part when "Sunny" points a shotgun at his father after he punched his wife is valid too except that, in the real case, Butch pulled the trigger with no shells inside. That was the only difference. The counterculture involved is also interesting. The Montelli's are no typical American family, you see this from the start when Sunny returns from buying a pack of cigarettes and has an arguement with his father who threatens to "kick his ass".

Yes, "Possession" did copy parts of The Exorcist, but it's still a good film with more gory scenes than the original.

If you like over-acted supernatural thrillers, you may enjoy the first. But if you want to see a movie based on a real murder case (though admittedly from a supernatural point of view), "Possession" is for you.

    • Trivia
In a 2018 interview, Diane Franklin talked about her infamous incestuous sex scene. She said while she definitely understood the peculiarity of it, she didn't have a huge issue with doing it. "I never had a brother, so luckily, I didn't have that association or the weirdness that went along with it." Franklin did admit filming the scene did end up being very awkward, but not because of the content. It was the producers who made her nervous. Shot in Mexico with no parents or chaperones at her side, the script called for the actress to appear topless, which she agreed to because she had no issue taking off her top in front of cast and crew. She'd already done it in The Last American Virgin (1982). But when producers tried to persuade her to go fully nude, she balked and successfully stood her ground. "They said I was beautiful and they really wanted me to do it. I said thank you very much but no." Franklin laughed. "They got around it by shooting me from the back, which I had no say in. And that was that."

When Fr. Adamsky tells Patricia Montelli about her behavior at the confessional, this is a breach of the seal of the confession even though they are alone. Even if a confession is face to face, priests are prohibited from speaking about a person's confession outside of the Sacrament of Reconciliation even if it is to the same person.

    • Alternate versions
When shown on Fox, the film was heavily edited. The incest plot between Sonny and his sister was cut out. The murder scene was trimmed down and some profanity was removed.
