From the onset, THE JULY GROUP looks like a terrible forgotten B-movie. After all when I saw it on January 2024 it had a pathetic score of 3,9 (now as I am reviewing it 4,0) and only one review that gives it a 7 (of course, there might be someone who likes this stuff but not me). And when I saw it, it was worse than I could have ever imagined!
The plot, if you care, it's set in Canada and about a paramilitary group (members played by canadians Ken Pogue, Maury Chaykin, Tom Butler and Shawn Lawrence) that goes to a family of Quackers disrupting their everyday life for what? Kidnapping the wife and daughter but in the meanwhile... nothing, I mean, NOTHING happens!
For the most part this movie consists of characters talking and talking, some very slow moments that turned me off after 40 minutes and the ending with the police that came for arresting the group was very confusing without leaving anything clear for the viewer. Sometime before the end (20 minutes or so but who cares) Michael Ironside appeared and I hoped that his role could have been the saving grace of this mess but no! He appeared for two minutes and it added nothing to the story, was only seated giving orders. As for the video quality it looked a bit grainy even for 1981 standards and it made this even more painful to watch than it already is.
So even if you are a fan of some of the stars you should steer clear from this as it's boring, worthless and badly made under every aspect... acting, editing, montage! Probably the best example I can think of right now of a boring bad movie.
