There are not many films from Sweden that you can watch as many times as I have watched Göta Kanal. It's certainly one of the best movies ever produced in this country. The actors delivers extremely well-timed lines and the witty script makes you crumble of laughter! 1 157 846 Swedes saw Göta Kanal in the movies.
I think it´s one of the best swedish comedic movies beside "Sallskapsresan" with Lasse Aberg. It has really good action scenes and lots of funny yokes. It´s also modern to be in the 80´s it has the Dolby Stereo Mix!

This movie is about a boat race on a small river in the mid of Sweden. They are racing for an order of 1000 yachts to a middle-east sheik. The movie has a lot of (at the time) good Swedish actors, I beleive that you have to be from Sweden or Scandinavia to like this one...
It has a bit of classic action here and there but it's kind of a comedy / drama picture. The story plays out in "present day" 1981 and it's a "feel good" movie.
I rate is movie 7/10.

I would say there is a tradition in Sweden watching this film... If you haven´t seen it, do that at once! Every big actor in Sweden has a role in this movie, and a couple of not so big actors. The action-scenes are still wonderful and spectacular, a ton of boat- and car crashes, wonderful comedy and a lot of classic lines. A real classic...
The movie is considered being one of the classic Swedish comedies, but in my opinion it's not any funny. The concept of the film, about the competing boats would be good enough to make something of, and they have a great cast. The special effects are also good, thinking about it being an old Swedish 80's movie. But the jokes aren't funny. There's no funny situation comedy nor any good verbal jokes. They are just talking incoherently and falling or pushing each other into the water. Too bad.
Good old Swedish films are for example "Jönssonligan", "Sällskapsresan" or the films starring Björn Skifs. This one does not belong in the same league.
