Rather slow, and doesn't really star Jackie Chan.

Jackie Chan is credited as the star of this movie, but he really is not. He is a major supporting actor, but not the star. It's just been packaged to highlight his name. I found the movie slow and rather boring. I enjoy watching Jackie Chan movies, but this one just did not hold my interest. Possibly because the movies he starred in were a lot better than ones where he merely appeared in.

              The summary here is wrong

The movie does not open with Woo Gam talking to Jackie Chan (with a huge mole on his left cheek). This movie opens with men in white karate gis practicing outdoors. Cut to a guy on a motorcycle then back to different guys practicing martial arts indoors. The master asks Mang Fei to give "a lesson" to the arrogant new guy. That would be Dean Shek and he arrives at the school. Lesson given. After the fight, Meng Fei sees Dean Shek being taught another lesson by the loan sharks he cannot pay.He tries to help and gets framed for his murder. He "escapes" custody and takes with him anything that makes further sense of the story.

My copy is a digital file that plays as wide screen but small on a HDTV. It is English dubbed by the A team of voice actors.

Let me clarify regarding the other user reviews. There are two movies titled "The Young Tiger" One of them stars Meng Fei and that matches the DVD cover and credits shown here. The other "The Young Tiger" is actually "Police Woman" and can be found here under that title. That page has the DVD cover "Rumble in Hong Kong" and Jackie Chan's picture. The movie's alternate titles are "Rumble in Hong Kong", The Heroine", and "Here Come Big Brother". My copy is a digital file that plays as wide screen but small on a HDTV. It is English dubbed by the A team of voice actors.

The summary here is also wrong but I can't see making the effort to fix it.

Now that you can tell the difference between the two movies I strongly recommend if you find yourself watching this one - stop. I don't have anything good to write about it and rate it at the bottom.

Not a great kung fu movie, but far from the worst

I got this movie as part of a three pack, with the other two titles being Snake Crane Secret (which is on at least half of the compilation kung fu DVD's), and Breathing Fire (which as one reviewer here said is "Crap-tastic!"). Bargain Bin.

The blurb on the DVD box incorrectly states Jackie Chan is the taxi driver/hero of the movie. He actually plays one of the thugs, with a bad mole on his face, and is only a supporting actor - which means less screen time, and less of him in the fight sequences. Too bad.

Some of the fights are good, but most are only average for a kung fu flick: better than the Phillipino stuff, but not by much, and definitely not up to the Chinese Movie Village standard. The car chase scenes are almost bad enough to be funny. Almost.

I have to agree with the other comment, for an action movie this is quite slowly paced, and seemed like much longer than 90 minutes.

I wouldn't avoid seeing it, but I'd avoid paying money for it unless you are a Jackie Chan complete-ist - and be ready for Chan to take a back seat, not center stage.

Rewrites what is possible in the art of filmmaking

This movie is good. I mean real good. Holy Lord, if you only see one film this year, make it this one. Now I don't like to blaspheme, but Jesus H Christ how this film did not sweep the 1974 Academy Awards I do not know. I award this film 5 giant face moles out of 5.

A BRUCE LEE'S INSTRUCTOR IS IN THIS CRAP!

I rate a broken 5 just cuz one of Bruce's instructors, Siu Hon San, did appear in a scene as the old master showing his technique. He told once he teached some ChingWu style to Bruce in exchange for cha-cha lessons, but Bruce disappeared soon after the training and never kept the promise (the chinese title for Fist of Fury was Ching-Wu Men, that's why Bruce took those lessons). Aside this trivia, this modern youngsters drama is terrible, in spite the presence of Lau Kar Wing as one of the fighters (he's brother of the late HK legendary director Lau Kar Leung) and Shi Tieh (aka Dean Shek), later a successful character in many action comedies courtesy by Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung, not to mention his dramatic role in the bloody Tsui Hark's A better tomorrow 3. Curiously the leading star Meng Fei had some italian blood in his vein, since his father or mother came from Milan.
