The beauty here is in the acting and the 'eternal truth' of the story.

Yes, the film may seem 'slow' in terns of what we call 'good cinema' today - filled with action and computer generated antics. However, no film with TERESA WRIGHT or JAMES WHITMORE could be called dull. She, particularly, is one of the great, and most emotive, of all screen performers.

The story itself is about an 'eternal truth' -- the choices we make in life about who we love, who we live with and the perspective the span of time in life reveals about our choices.

A quiet film, yes. A realistic film, yes. A thought provoking film, yes. And, placed forever on film two more outstanding performances from two outstanding performers -- who learned acting when that truly meant something to sustain a film. A solid '8' in my book!

    Not much to say

About all they did through the whole movie was play different games. I had to force myself not to fall asleep. The only funny part was when Cora's teeth fell out! The only reason I watched it was because my sister had to do a report on it for school. She wasn't impressed either.

    Cute movie

I'm partial to it because I watched it being made. I watched the parts by the lake as I worked right there. I watched the horse shoe games, and got james Whitmores autograph in the gazebo during a break when he was playing checkers. I still have it I lived a block away and worked at a senior retirement home by the pond. I walked around that pond all the time, fed the ducks by the gazebo. Unfortunately i didnt get to meet Steven or Theresa or Nan but watching the two guys go at it in horse shoes was funny. James was very gracious. Fun after 44 years to see where i lived and worked. I was 22. Got married down there, my son was born in st Pete in 1981. We live in Ohio.

    Love watching it again.
