Paul Scanlan, CEO and co-founder of the fan-owned Legion M, attributes some of the success of the company’s latest film “My Dead Friend Zoe” to the community support from its many fan investors.
Speaking with Variety‘s Jennifer Maas on the weekly Variety podcast “Strictly Business,” Scanlan explained that Legion M seeks input from its investors on everything it does. Legion M is a company that fans can own a part of for as low an investment as $40.
“Legion M is a fan-owned entertainment company, and what that means is we’re guided by and supported by our community. And so before we embark on these long journeys, we always go to them and say, ‘Hey, what do you what do you guys think of these projects?’ And this was a project that really resonated with our community,” Scanlan said.

I mention a lot in these video essays about remakes and how they sometimes work but often times don’t. One of the biggest issues I have is that many of the remakes we get are really not needed. I like them but did we really need an updated version of Friday the 13th, Halloween, or Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Of course not, these are classics for a reason. Those are just the ones that work too, there’s plenty like Jacob’s Ladder, Nightmare on Elm Street, or Poltergeist that run the gamut from boring as hell to offensively bad. Well, in 2024 I’m kind of getting my wish. While something like Fade to Black could get a wonderful update 44 years later and be able to say something new and different, I’m curious what a Street Trash remake will bring to the table. The original is one that was a...

A new 7-inch vinyl/CD box set collects Motörhead’s latter-era A-side and B-side singles, ranging from 1995 through 2006.
Dubbed We Take No Prisoners: The Singles: 1995 – 2006, the set will arrive on vinyl (nine 7-inch vinyl discs) and as a 2-cd box set, both out October 25th. The track “Shut Your Mouth,” from the band’s 2002 album Hammered, was chosen as the lead single for the collection.
The box set is especially notable for collectors. As mentioned in the band’s press release, 7-inch singles were a dominant format up until the ’90s, when CDs took over. Many of these tracks were released as CD singles at the time, before becoming sought-after collectibles. Not only does this box set return them to print, but most are receiving their first-ever release on 7-inch vinyl.

As far as most Bleach fans and even general anime viewers are concerned, Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki are the franchise's power couple. The two have been shipped ever since the anime began back in 2008, and their fandom endures to this day. However, Ichigo's and Rukia's supposed romance was never canon. In the manga, author and artist Tite Kubo always intended for Ichigo and Rukia to be platonic friends. What's more, they had their own romantic endgames separate from each other. For one reason or another, this didn't stop the animators and fans from pairing the two up. The fact that "IchiRuki" still thrives in the fandom even as the long-awaited and well-received Thousand-Year Blood War leaned closer to their manga-accurate aromantic friendship speaks volumes to how popular the ship was.

There are dozens of characters in Bleach, and several of these characters have siblings. For example, Orihime had an older brother who became a Hollow. That being said, neither of them are exceptionally powerful. Some of the strongest Bleach siblings happen to be Soul Reapers, and most of them are Lieutenant-level or higher. There are also Arrancar and Quincy siblings, who are fairly strong as well.
In most cases, the older sibling is stronger, but there are instances where the younger sibling is more powerful. One sibling pair is not even related by blood, but they would die in order to protect one another. Those adopted siblings are now two of Soul Society's strongest Captains. There are also some non-canon siblings that happen to be strong.

In Ti West’s 1979-set slasher movie X, Mia Goth played would-be porn star Maxine and elderly killer Pearl. Spinning the film out into a triptych rather than a trilogy, the 1919-set Pearl was about the younger days of the murderess, while MaXXXine is set in 1985 and catches up with what the final girl of the Texas Porn Star Massacre did next in her life. Eventual binge-watchers will notice the way elements recur with variations across all three movies — something Maxine does at the climax mirrors what Pearl did in her film.
In a moment of metatextuality which functions also as a scare scene, Maxine has her head coated with goo as a make-up artist makes an impression to be used to create a severed-head prop for a dream sequence. She is transformed by dripping white gunk into the ghost image of old Pearl, who actually told her she would end up looking like her.

Giancarlo Esposito recently confirmed that he had joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe... but not as the character he's been campaigning to play over the past few months, Charles Xavier.
During Ccxp back in May (via Collider), Esposito revealed that he will be appearing in a Marvel Studios project, but declined to reveal any more details. The actor did say that we'd find out "sooner rather than later," and the role is "better than you can imagine."
There was some speculation that Esposito might show up in the cameo-filled Deadpool and Wolverine, but according to Mttsh, he will be making his MCU debut in an upcoming Disney+ series.
Does this narrow down the character possibilities? Not really, since we have Agatha All Along, Ironheart, Daredevil: Born Again, and the recently announced Vision series all on the horizon, as well as more Marvel Spotlight presentations such as Wonder Man.

With the arrival of the Paramount+ documentary miniseries “Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza,” alt-rock fans who attended the era-defining Lollapalooza festival in its national heyday will experience a rush of nostalgia, and viewers from Gens Z and Alpha will see and hear what Gen X has been crowing about since 1991. That’s the year Perry Farrell created a touring farewell party for his Jane’s Addiction, invited still-new bands such as Nine Inch Nails and Ice T’s Body Count for the ride, and found a tribe of like-minded rebel youth enthralled with his tribal gathering.

Similar to many other Hollywood biggies, Chris Pine too comes from an acting background, whose parents were once associated with the showbiz. But while they did enjoy modest success, especially his dad, Robert Pine, it did little to change their life around financially, and the late ’80s would turn out to be the toughest period for the Pine family.

Giancarlo Esposito would consider joining the MCU an "honor," and he's particularly interested in playing Charles Xavier or Magneto from the X-Men. Esposito admits that "villains are fun" to play. Esposito raises the possibility of Moff Gideon returning as a clone in the Star Wars universe.
For some fans, Giancarlo Esposito will forever be synonymous with Breaking Bad’s Gus Fring, The Boys baddie Stan Edgar, or The Mandalorian’s Moff Gideon. However, there are those who wonder what role Esposito might tackle in a DC Comics or Marvel adaptation. One X user wrote they could see Esposito “killing it” in the role of DC’s Ray Palmer, aka Atom. The Atom was portrayed in the CW's Arrowverse by Brandon Routh, and, as it turns out, Esposito would consider it "an honor" to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And he's particularly interested in the X-Men characters Charles Xavier and Magneto.

With the upcoming ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ release, fans hope it will bring X-Men into the MCU. Though Professor X debuted in the MCU, fans await a version to stay and join various stories. Many actors are considered, with Giancarlo Esposito standing out. Esposito, known for villainous roles, expressed interest in the role during a Fade to Black podcast appearance. However, he dislikes a characteristic that defines the character.
It would be great to play Professor X in some other incarnation than just the wheelchair,’ right? Because the physical idea of being in a wheelchair every single day does not appeal to me. I just don’t feel that old and I don’t like to sit that much. But certainly we could figure something out. Maybe. Professor X wasn’t always in the wheelchair, but that is part of his character development.

With the upcoming release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ fans are hoping that the movie will open the floodgates of X-Men to the MCU. Although Professor X has already debuted in the MCU, fans are waiting for that variant that will stay and take part in several stories. Now there are many potential candidates for the role, and one name stands out Giancarlo Esposito, who we more frequently see in the role of a villain instead of in the role of a benevolent leader with humanity’s best interests at heart.
Esposito recently commented on the potential role during his guest appearance on the Fade To Black podcast and as it turns out he would love to play Charles Xavier but doesn’t like one aspect of the character that at the same time makes him extremely recognizable:

As we wait for Disney and Marvel to usher in a new era of X-Men-related film content, questions about who could play the iconic mutants continue to burn in fans’ minds. For several years, fan casts for the part of Wolverine have run rampant online, with everyone from Jared Kesso to Daniel Radcliffe and Taron Egerton floated as someone to play the adamantium-clawed Canadian hero. But what about Professor Charles Xavier? The mutant mentalist is one of the franchise’s most iconic characters. After Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy’s performances, playing the bald father figure to many mutants will take someone extraordinary. How about Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian, and Kaleidoscope actor Giancarlo Esposito?
Speaking with Amon Warmann from the Fade to Black podcast, Giancarlo Esposito says it’d be great to play Professor X in an X-Men project, though he’d like to change an aspect of the character’s mobility.

In the modern video game industry, almost every developer and publisher has their eyes on starting a franchise from day one of development. Features get cut that would fit better in a sequel. Plot points are set up for a future game. If you can franchise something, you can make a lot more money.
But sometimes, those plans don’t quite work out. A game sells well, a sequel gets greenlit, and for whatever reason, it barely makes a dent in the gaming consciousness, or maybe it never even makes its way to the West. Some of these sequels were stumbling blocks in bigger franchises, or offshoots that got stuck on platforms with small userbases. And a few seemed poised for bigger things but never quite caught on. Regardless of the how or why, these are some of the most notable video game sequels you probably forgot existed.

Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Gibson have announced the 1989 Les Paul Custom signature model.

Filmmaker Wes Ball’s 2024 summer tentpole Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will try to conquer moviegoers two weeks early.
Disney’s 20th Century Studios announced Friday that the film will now open May 10 instead of May 24. The shift gives it distance from the crowded Memorial Day marquee, which includes George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (Warner Bros.) and The Garfield Movie (Sony).
The move was a no-brainer since there is no direct competition on that date in terms of a new tentpole. Plus, it gives Planet of the Apes Imax screens for the first two weeks of its a release, as well as other large-format screens (it’s the first of the multitude of the Apes films to play in Imax.)
In its new date, the event pic will open opposite Focus Features’ Amy Winehouse film Fade to Black. And it bows once week after Universal’s The Fall Guy,...

Fans were initially excited about Anthony Mackie's portrayal of Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but enthusiasm waned as the season wrapped up due to a rushed narrative and truncated character arcs. Rumors speculated that a subplot about a contagious disease had been axed from the show due to its eerie parallels with the real-world Covid-19 pandemic, but the director claims it was unrelated. While the pandemic-themed storyline may have enriched the show, Disney and Marvel Studios likely made the decision to remove it to avoid mirroring a global crisis and maintain a positive image for their streaming venture.
Marvel Studios' successful transition to streaming services took another intriguing turn recently. New revelations have emerged about a subplot that was axed from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
When Anthony Mackie stepped up to embrace the mantle of Captain America in the series, fans were beyond ecstatic.

Metallica kicked off the North American leg of their 2023-2024 “M72 World Tour” on Friday (August 4th) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band was joined on the bill by fellow metal legends Pantera and rising rockers Mammoth Wvh (led by Wolfgang Van Halen).
The tour (get tickets here) features Metallica performing two completely unique sets (no repeat songs) over two nights in each city, with different support acts each evening. They’ll be right back at MetLife on Sunday (August 6th), with Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills opening.
The setup has the bands performing in the round, on a circular stage in the middle of the stadium, with some fans in the “Snakepit” (the center of the circle).
While there was a forecast for thunderstorms on Friday night, that never came to be, making for a comfortable summer evening in New Jersey.

Just like any other form of entertainment, anime is prone to making writing decisions that can't satisfy everyone. Some fans support the writing choices in question, while others don't. This kind of polarization is to be expected. After all, storytelling preference is subjective. However, there are some plot beats that got on everyone's nerves.

Metallica have unveiled the latest expression in their Blackened American Whiskey line, dubbed “Rye the Lightning.”

The new expression is finished in Madeira and rum casks, and undergoes the same “Black Noise” sonic-enhancement process (where the barrels are pummeled by low hertz frequencies of Metallica’s music) as...

The energy bouncing around San Francisco’s Chase Center for Metallica’s second 40th anniversary concert felt electric even before the band took the stage Sunday night. The first concert on Friday was all about anticipation — how could the thrash-metal pioneers commemorate their legacy in a fresh, exciting way? Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo played the night’s first two songs, “Battery” and “The Four Horsemen,” while Slipknot’s Joey Jordison — dressed in his trademark mask and jumpsuit — played...

They wanted their metal faster, tougher, and more intense than anything they had ever heard,...

Dennis Christopher, the wholesome small town bicyclist of Breaking Away, goes Psycho in this 1980 thriller about a film fan who acts out his murderous fantasies in the guise of classic movie monsters. If director Vernon Zimmerman had cult status in mind for this quirky black comedy, he was helped considerably by the film’s heavy rotation on Cinemax and HBO.
