Paul Scanlan, CEO and co-founder of the fan-owned Legion M, attributes some of the success of the company’s latest film “My Dead Friend Zoe” to the community support from its many fan investors.

Speaking with Variety‘s Jennifer Maas on the weekly Variety podcast “Strictly Business,” Scanlan explained that Legion M seeks input from its investors on everything it does. Legion M is a company that fans can own a part of for as low an investment as $40.

“Legion M is a fan-owned entertainment company, and what that means is we’re guided by and supported by our community. And so before we embark on these long journeys, we always go to them and say, ‘Hey, what do you what do you guys think of these projects?’ And this was a project that really resonated with our community,” Scanlan said.

Exclusive: Emmy Award nominee Joseph Lee has been cast as a series regular in the Apple TV+ series Neuromancer, a new 10-episode drama based on the award-winning novel of the same name by William Gibson.

He joins the previously announced Callum Turner and Briana Middleton. Lee will portray the character Hideo, who in the novel is a ninja bodyguard.

Created for television by Graham Roland and Jd Dillard, Neuromancer follows a damaged, top-rung super-hacker named Case (Turner) who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime with his partner Molly (Middleton), a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes, aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.

Surrounding the darker side of showbiz, the movie will follow the previously announced Karan Soni (Deadpool franchise) as Amit, a young man aspiring for a career in screenwriting. Tapping a slew of fresh talent for the latest casting rollout, the movie has signed on Betty Gabriel (Get Out), Annie Gonzalez (Flamin Hot), Thomas Barbusca (The Mick), Caylee Cowan (Sunrise in Heaven), Veronika Dash (Isabels Garden), Scott Evans (Barbie), and Johnno Wilson (I Love That For You).

Production is underway on Legion M’s darkly comedic horror thriller Fade to Black, which sees art imitating life for an aspiring Hollywood screenwriter. Today, Legion M has announced that Betty Gabriel, Thomas Barbusca, and Annie Gonzalez have joined the cast.

Hilary Swank has been cast in the upcoming third season of Yellowjackets. According to Deadline, she'll be a recurring guest star with an option to bump up to a series regular should the show get renewed for a fourth season. No details have yet been released as to who Swank will play.

Metallica has announced that their M72 World Tour will officially be extended a third year and announced 21 North American shows that will span from April to June 2025.

Karan Soni has been tapped for the lead role in Andrew Sandler’s upcoming thriller “Fade to Black,” penned by Brandon Cohen.

Soni joins fellow cast members Katerina Tannenbaum (“Better Call Saul”), Max Carver (“The Batman”), Rafael Casal (“Loki”), Gavin Leatherwood (“It’s What’s Inside”), Joseph Lee (“Beef”), John Carroll Lynch (“American Horror Story”) and Zosia Mamet (“The Flight Attendant”) for Sandler’s narrative feature debut. Sandler has directed music videos for artists including Blink-182, Justin Bieber, Machine Gun Kelly and Ariana Grande. Production in Los Angeles is expected to begin in October.

A new 7-inch vinyl/CD box set collects Motörhead’s latter-era A-side and B-side singles, ranging from 1995 through 2006.

Dubbed We Take No Prisoners: The Singles: 1995 – 2006, the set will arrive on vinyl (nine 7-inch vinyl discs) and as a 2-cd box set, both out October 25th. The track “Shut Your Mouth,” from the band’s 2002 album Hammered, was chosen as the lead single for the collection.

The box set is especially notable for collectors. As mentioned in the band’s press release, 7-inch singles were a dominant format up until the ’90s, when CDs took over. Many of these tracks were released as CD singles at the time, before becoming sought-after collectibles. Iconic heavy metal band Metallica is currently on tour to celebrate their album 72 Seasons, their first new album in seven years.

The M72 Tour will conclude in Mexico City in September 2024.

The band emphasized on their website that across the 22 different cities around the world, with two nights in each city, there will be “No Repeat Weekend” – each show will be completely unique experience; “Two totally different set lists with two different bands opening the show each night!”

The band also declared that a portion of every ticket from the tour is donated to Metallica’s charitable organization, the All Within My Hands (Awmh) foundation. Established in 2017, Awmh has strived to support and enrich the lives of the communities that have been fans of the band over the years. To date, the foundation has raised nearly $13 million, with $5.9 million in grants allocated to career and technical education programs across the United States.

In Ti West’s 1979-set slasher movie X, Mia Goth played would-be porn star Maxine and elderly killer Pearl. Spinning the film out into a triptych rather than a trilogy, the 1919-set Pearl was about the younger days of the murderess, while MaXXXine is set in 1985 and catches up with what the final girl of the Texas Porn Star Massacre did next in her life. Eventual binge-watchers will notice the way elements recur with variations across all three movies — something Maxine does at the climax mirrors what Pearl did in her film.

In a moment of metatextuality which functions also as a scare scene, Maxine has her head coated with goo as a make-up artist makes an impression to be used to create a severed-head prop for a dream sequence. She is transformed by dripping white gunk into the ghost image of old Pearl, who actually told her she would end up looking like her.

It’s the latest signature model axe in Hammett’s ongoing partnership with Gibson. This time, they’re going back to the …And Justice for All and “Black Album” era for a faithful recreation of Hammett’s original Les Paul Custom in its appropriate “blacked-out” Ebony finish.

The signature model retains that look and was Murphy Lab-aged by Gibson’s luthiers to replicate the wear and feel of the original. The hardware is also all-black.

Filmmaker Wes Ball’s 2024 summer tentpole Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will try to conquer moviegoers two weeks early.

Disney’s 20th Century Studios announced Friday that the film will now open May 10 instead of May 24. The shift gives it distance from the crowded Memorial Day marquee, which includes George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (Warner Bros.) and The Garfield Movie (Sony).

The move was a no-brainer since there is no direct competition on that date in terms of a new tentpole. Plus, it gives Planet of the Apes Imax screens for the first two weeks of its a release, as well as other large-format screens (it’s the first of the multitude of the Apes films to play in Imax.)

Metallica have announced the winners of their inaugural “For Whom the Band Tolls!” marching band competition.

Over 450 colleges and high schools across the US signed up for the competition after its April 10th announcement, with many rolling out Metallica suites during halftime performances.

Marching bands were invited to compete by crafting “their most exciting, unique, and impressive performances of some of the band’s most beloved songs,” and entrants were given access to official charts for “Enter Sandman,” “Fade to Black,” “Master of Puppets,” and more.

The members of Metallica have chosen the winners in each division, while two fan-voted categories have also been revealed. The winners are:

Metallica fans won’t have to worry about missing out on their favorite rock band because their current tour, the M72 World Tour, isn’t scheduled to end until September next year.

The M72 World Tour kicked off on April 27 this year in support of their 11th studio album, 72 Seasons.

Metallica only has one more show left this year, which they will be performing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on December 14. They won’t be starting their 2024 tour for M72 until May in Europe. August will see their return to North America.

Supporting acts include Ice Nine Kills, Five Finger Death Punch, Pantera, Mammoth Wvh and Greta Van Fleet.

The fifth season of investigative podcast series Witnessed, titled Fade to Black has launched. From Campside Media and Sony Music Entertainment, in association with Stowaway Entertainment, the eight-part series focuses on the bizarre story of screenwriter Gary Devore, who disappeared in 1997. The disappearance has become the source of many conspiracy theories, including that the CIA may have played a role in whatever happened to him.

Fans were initially excited about Anthony Mackie's portrayal of Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but enthusiasm waned as the season wrapped up due to a rushed narrative and truncated character arcs. Rumors speculated that a subplot about a contagious disease had been axed from the show due to its eerie parallels with the real-world Covid-19 pandemic, but the director claims it was unrelated. While the pandemic-themed storyline may have enriched the show, Disney and Marvel Studios likely made the decision to remove it to avoid mirroring a global crisis and maintain a positive image for their streaming venture.

Metallica kicked off the North American leg of their 2023-2024 “M72 World Tour” on Friday (August 4th) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band was joined on the bill by fellow metal legends Pantera and rising rockers Mammoth Wvh (led by Wolfgang Van Halen).

The tour (get tickets here) features Metallica performing two completely unique sets (no repeat songs) over two nights in each city, with different support acts each evening. They’ll be right back at MetLife on Sunday (August 6th), with Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills opening.

The setup has the bands performing in the round, on a circular stage in the middle of the stadium, with some fans in the “Snakepit” (the center of the circle).

While there was a forecast for thunderstorms on Friday night, that never came to be, making for a comfortable summer evening in New Jersey.

Just like any other form of entertainment, anime is prone to making writing decisions that can't satisfy everyone. Some fans support the writing choices in question, while others don't. This kind of polarization is to be expected. After all, storytelling preference is subjective. However, there are some plot beats that got on everyone's nerves.

In just five episodes, The Promised Neverland's second season turned its beloved predecessor into one of history's worst anime adaptations.

Metallica kicked off their 2023-2024 “M72 World Tour” at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam on Thursday evening (April 27th) in support of their new album, 72 Seasons. The two-year outing (tickets available here) features the metal icons playing two completely unique sets over two nights in each city.

For the first night in Amsterdam, the metal titans showcased three songs from 72 Seasons, including “Lux Æterna,” “Screaming Suicide,” and “Sleepwalk My Life Away,” with the latter two receiving their live debuts.

Elsewhere in the 16-song set, 1984’s Ride the Lightning, 1986’s Master of Puppets, and 1991’s self-titled LP (aka “The Black Album”) were equally represented with three songs each, while no more than one song was played from any other albums.

Metallica have launched an inaugural marching band competition.

Marching bands of all levels are invited to compete for over $150,000 in prizes by crafting “their most exciting, unique, and impressive performances of some of the band’s most beloved songs.”

Bands who enter via Metallica’s marching band website will gain access to library of marching band charts by sheet music publisher Hal Leonard. Among the songs included are some of Metallica’s biggest hits: “Creeping Death,” “Enter Sandman,” “Fade to Black,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” “Fuel,” “Hit the Lights,” “Lux Æterna,” “Master of Puppets,” “One,” “Sad but True,” “Seek & Destroy,” “The Unforgiven,” and “Wherever I May Roam.”
