Nicolas Cage is continuing to expand his wild filmography by dipping his toes into the western genre. But, it wouldn't be a Nic Cage movie without the actor either delivering one of the most groundbreaking, emotional performances of his life, or one of the most bonkers caricatures you've ever seen. For his new, wild western, Gunslingers, Cage has characteristically chosen the latter.

The first trailer for Gunslingers has now been unleashed, and it's safe to say that Cage is a certified scene-stealer once again. The film is written and directed by Brian Skiba (Guns of Redemption) and is set to be released on April 11. Alongside Cage, Gunslingers also stars Heather Graham, Stephen Dorff, and Scarlet Rose Stallone. Cage plays mad genius Ben, who is guided to a town named Redemption to confront their violent histories. The official synopsis reads:

Nicolas Cage comes from one of film’s most esteemed families. His uncle is Francis Ford Coppola (“The Godfather”) and his aunt is actress Talia Shire. Not wanting to appear like his career was the productive of nepotism, when he started acting he took the name Cage from one of his favorite comic book characters, Marvel’s Luke Cage.

Cage’s film career started off quite auspiciously with a small role in the popular comedy “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” when he was just 18 years old. He followed that up with a lead role in the cult classic “Valley Girl.” Both films interestingly dealt with the life of teenagers in the Los Angeles suburbs of the San Fernando Valley.

For his third film Cage would finally agree to work with his uncle when he appeared in Coppola’s “Rumble Fish,” followed the following year by Coppola’s “The Cotton Club.

Michael Schoeffling acted for 7 years after his iconic role as Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candles, then transitioned to woodworking. Schoeffling resisted being typecast as a heartthrob, taking on diverse roles in films like Vision Quest and Longtime Companion. Despite leaving Hollywood for woodworking, Schoeffling's daughter Scarlett is pursuing acting and modeling, carrying on his legacy.

Actor Michael Schoeffling, famous for playing Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candles, has had a unique and creative career in and out of the entertainment industry. April on Prime Video is stacked with returning favorites, the launch of one of Amazon’s biggest shows ever and a bevy of great movies to watch. The fifth and final season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” launches on April 14, while Amazon will premiere the globe-trotting action-thriller series “Citadel” – starring Priyanka Chopra-Jonas and Richard Madden – on April 28. The show hails from “Avengers: Endgame” filmmaker Joe and Anthony Russo.

Noteworthy movies arriving on April 1 include the “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” movies, “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “The Big Lebowski,” “Looper,” “Vanilla Sky” and “Top Gun.”

Prime Video is hoping to launch its own extended franchise universe in April with the premiere of international spy series “Citadel” from the minds of the Russo Brothers. The show stars Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, and Stanley Tucci, and is intended to be the first block of an interconnected story with different spinoffs in countries and regions around the world. The first version will begin streaming on April 28. In the show, the world is in the grips of Manticore, a criminal organization, and several former spies are recruited to restore order despite having their memories erased.

Emmy-winning actor John Karlen, best known for his work on the television series “Dark Shadows” and “Cagney & Lacey,” has died. He was 86.

Karlen died Wednesday of congestive heart failure at a hospice in Burbank, Calif., his friend and spokesperson Jim Pierson told the Associated Press.

The actor played conman and scoundrel Willie Loomis on “Dark Shadows,” replacing James Hall, who had abruptly left the show after five episodes. He later played several other roles for the horror soap series that aired on ABC from 1966 to 1971. The Dark Shadows News posted about the news on Twitter.

Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that several original shows will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in April, including the fifth season of the crime drama “Bosch,” the sophomore season of the comedy “The Tick” and the first edition of the children’s animated show “Bug Diaries.”

Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first appearances on Amazon Prime Video in April including the Oscar-nominated horror film “A Quiet Place,” a slew of films in the Bond franchise and all three entries in the “Blade” trilogy.

Below is the full schedule of everything that is coming to Amazon Prime Video in April 2019. Unlike Netflix, Amazon does not disclose the shows and movies leaving the service in any given month. We’ve done some digging and unearthed a few titles that will be exiting Amazon Prime Video in the first week of April.

Amazon Prime Video has released its roster of new content coming to it April, and the list includes a new Prime Original along with new seasons of “Bosch,” “The Tick,” and “Diablo Guardián.”

The first season of “Bug Diaries,” a Prime Original animated series for preschoolers, follows Spider, Fly and Worm on their daily adventures recorded in their bug diaries. From riding on a dog’s back to dodging raindrops, the three bug buddies will appear on the streamer starting April 12.

Season 5 of “Bosch” picks up 15 months after Det. Harry Bosch caught his mother’s killer. Per the streamer’s description, new evidence in an old case leaves everyone wondering whether Bosch planted evidence to convict the wrong guy. And a murder at a Hollywood pharmacy exposes a sophisticated opioid pill mill, sending Bosch down a dark and perilous path in pursuit of the killers. It drops April 19.

Hulu’s list of comings and goings for the month of April is out, and the roster for new content on the streaming service includes two Hulu Originals — the first season premiere of “Ramy,” and the seventh episode of “Into The Dark: I’m Just F*cking With You,” with other highlights including Season 3 of Freeform’s “The Bold Type” and John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place.”

Kino Lorber has released “Singing Guns” (1950), a Republic Pictures “singing cowboy” western filmed in Trucolor. The film is based on a western novel by Max Brand, and is pretty unremarkable except for the fact that the cowboy anti-hero, Rhiannon, an outlaw with a long bushy beard who has been robbing stagecoaches to the tune of over a $1 million, isn’t played by Roy, or Gene Autry, Rocky Lane Rex Allen, or any of the other western stars in Republic’s stable. Rhiannon, is played by a popular singer from that era named Vaughn Monroe.

I remember Vaughn Monroe when I was a kid. I used to hear him singing “Racing with the Moon,” on the radio. He had a rich baritone voice and my mother would turn up the radio every time it came on and sort of stare out into space with a funny look in her eyes.

Hulu has confirmed that several of its original series will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in July, including the first season of the highly anticipated Stephen King thriller “Castle Rock” as well as season 2 of the costume drama “Harlots” and season 4 of the comedy “Casual.”

And there will also be new to Hulu seasons of some of your favorites from other networks, including season 2 of “The Strain,” season 4 of “The Vikings” and season 8 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first Hulu appearances including the first five films in the “Star Trek” franchise and the Oscar-winning “Rosemary’s Baby.”

Herbert Ross’s 1975 film The Sunshine Boys, which stars Walter Matthau, George Burns, and Richard Benjamin, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The Royale Laemmle Theater in Los Angeles will be holding a special one-night-only showing of the 111-minute film on Tuesday, August 4th, 2015 at 7:00 pm. Actor Richard Benjamin is scheduled to appear at the screening and is due to partake in a Q & A and discussion on the making of the film.

Actress Kate Williamson, whose film and television career spanned more than two decades, died Friday evening at her home in Encino, her manager, Judy Fox, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. UTA has signed My Week With Marilyn director Simon Curtis as well as his wife Elizabeth McGovern, the Globe-nominated star of Downton Abbey. McGovern was a rising feature actress in the 1980s with leads in films like She’s Having A Baby, Ordinary People, Ragtime and Racing With the Moon, before moving to the UK to raise a family with Curtis. She has continued working there, and has found herself back on the Hollywood radar with the British series Downton Abbey. Twilight fans aren’t going to know what hit them. That’s because while Billy Burke has made an impression as Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) mild mannered father in the Twilight movies, in director Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry 3D, Burke plays an over-the-top villainous cult leader that dresses like a rock star.

But let me back up a second. Back in early May, I got to visit the set of Drive Angry while the film was being shot in Shreveport, Louisiana. Billy Burke is a compelling and critically acclaimed actor whose credits span both television and feature film. In the phenomenally successful Twilight films, he plays Charlie Swan, the Forks Chief of Police, who is also the father of Bella (Kristen Stewart), a young woman torn between her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), and her werewolf best friend, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).

It's been a while since I've proudly identified myself as a Nicolas Cage fan. But I'm saying it here, and I'm saying it's because of all the years in the wilderness, not in spite of it. I've been there from the start.  13-year-old me saw "Valley Girl" in the theater.  Twice, courtesy the movie theater usher older brother of a friend.  14-year-old-me took two different girls to see "Racing With The Moon" when it played, and both times, I got to touch a boob as a direct result of the movie, which automatically made it better-than-almost-any-other-movie-ever.   Cage was a guy...

Whatever happened to the Cage who started out making films like Racing with the Moon, Peggy Sue Got Married, Raising Arizona and Moonstruck? Or the later Cage, who intrigued with potent, evocative performances in Wild at Heart and Leaving Las Vegas? Or even the Cage who carried solid, action-packed films like The Rock (one of the few Michael Bay films that are worth watching) or Face/Off? There was a time when I looked forward to seeing a new Nic Cage film, when his talent on screen, combined with an ability to discern which scripts were worth making, made a new Nic Cage film something to at least be interested in, if not excited about. But these days, his choices tend more toward the explosion-packed and banal than the engaging and brilliant. And I miss the other Nic Cage.
