Nicolas Cage is continuing to expand his wild filmography by dipping his toes into the western genre. But, it wouldn't be a Nic Cage movie without the actor either delivering one of the most groundbreaking, emotional performances of his life, or one of the most bonkers caricatures you've ever seen. For his new, wild western, Gunslingers, Cage has characteristically chosen the latter.
The first trailer for Gunslingers has now been unleashed, and it's safe to say that Cage is a certified scene-stealer once again. The film is written and directed by Brian Skiba (Guns of Redemption) and is set to be released on April 11. Alongside Cage, Gunslingers also stars Heather Graham, Stephen Dorff, and Scarlet Rose Stallone. Cage plays mad genius Ben, who is guided to a town named Redemption to confront their violent histories. The official synopsis reads:

When I hear the name Elizabeth McGovern, I immediately think of ’80s projects she worked on like Ordinary People, Racing with the Moon, Once Upon a Time in America, The Bedroom Window, and, most of all, She’s Having a Baby. Which probably gives away the fact that I have never watched Downton Abbey. McGovern has continued working steadily over the decades since the ’80s movies I mentioned, and these days is likely best known for playing the role of Cora Crawley on Downton Abbey and then reprising that role in two feature films. Next up: Variety reports that McGovern has signed on to join the cast of Anne Rice’s The Talamasca.
About a year and a half ago, we heard that AMC was developing a third TV series based on the works of Anne Rice, adding to the franchise they’ve been building out of the Vampire Chronicles...

Nicolas Cage comes from one of film’s most esteemed families. His uncle is Francis Ford Coppola (“The Godfather”) and his aunt is actress Talia Shire. Not wanting to appear like his career was the productive of nepotism, when he started acting he took the name Cage from one of his favorite comic book characters, Marvel’s Luke Cage.
Cage’s film career started off quite auspiciously with a small role in the popular comedy “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” when he was just 18 years old. He followed that up with a lead role in the cult classic “Valley Girl.” Both films interestingly dealt with the life of teenagers in the Los Angeles suburbs of the San Fernando Valley.
For his third film Cage would finally agree to work with his uncle when he appeared in Coppola’s “Rumble Fish,” followed the following year by Coppola’s “The Cotton Club.

Michael Schoeffling acted for 7 years after his iconic role as Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candles, then transitioned to woodworking. Schoeffling resisted being typecast as a heartthrob, taking on diverse roles in films like Vision Quest and Longtime Companion. Despite leaving Hollywood for woodworking, Schoeffling's daughter Scarlett is pursuing acting and modeling, carrying on his legacy.
Actor Michael Schoeffling, famous for playing Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candles, has had a unique and creative career in and out of the entertainment industry. In Sixteen Candles, which is considered one of the best John Hughes movies, Schoeffling plays the dreamy and understanding love interest of Sam (Molly Ringwald). Before Sixteen Candles, Schoeffling was a model and had an uncredited role in Racing With The Moon. As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

I admit I didn’t really notice Nicolas Cage (then billed as Nicola Coppola) in his debut, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but I quickly became a fan after seeing him in 1984’s underrated Racing with the Moon. Since then, he has made dozens of movies, across the genres, going from romantic lead to tortured lead to action lead and back again.
Despite making all of these films, earning numerous nominations and earning an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and numerous local critics’ awards, Cage has never quite gotten the respect his work deserves. Some of that is because of questionable career choices as well as an outsized public life that has garnered embarrassing headlines and unwanted notoriety.
Along the way, he has become a beloved cult performer, with many enjoying his low budget efforts and others rooting for him to regain his peak performance. With age and...

As they say, art imitates life, and for Pedro Pascal, playing a Nicolas Cage superfan wasn’t too far from the truth.
Pascal stars as a billionaire who offers 1 million to a fictionalized version of Cage to attend his birthday party in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” in theaters April 22.
And while Pascal’s “Unbearable” character has villainous intentions, the “Narcos” alum noted that he previously tapped into an inspired “Cage rage” to play DC evil mastermind Max Lord in “Wonder Woman 1984.”
“I remember shooting a scene in ‘1984’ and, in the instant, I was like, what kind of energy do I need here?” Pascal told Entertainment Weekly. “And I remembered Nicolas Cage — before I ever met him, before the thought of ever making ‘Massive Talent’ existed — I remembered him jumping on the desk in ‘Vampire’s Kiss,’ kind of torturing [co-star] María Conchita Alonso. Kino Lorber has released “Singing Guns” (1950), a Republic Pictures “singing cowboy” western filmed in Trucolor. The film is based on a western novel by Max Brand, and is pretty unremarkable except for the fact that the cowboy anti-hero, Rhiannon, an outlaw with a long bushy beard who has been robbing stagecoaches to the tune of over a $1 million, isn’t played by Roy, or Gene Autry, Rocky Lane Rex Allen, or any of the other western stars in Republic’s stable. Rhiannon, is played by a popular singer from that era named Vaughn Monroe.
I remember Vaughn Monroe when I was a kid. I used to hear him singing “Racing with the Moon,” on the radio. He had a rich baritone voice and my mother would turn up the radio every time it came on and sort of stare out into space with a funny look in her eyes.

Twelve years before he became the screenwriter of the most successful franchise in film history, adapting all but one of the Harry Potter novels for the screen, Steve Kloves directed the first of two extraordinarily powerful and original films – movies all the more remarkable for how different they were from each other. Kloves had one produced screenplay to his credit, 1984’s Racing with the Moon, when he assembled the dream cast of Jeff Bridges, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Beau Bridges to create The Fabulous Baker Boys in 1989. Its story of two piano-playing brothers and the singer that upends years […]...

Cliché: a phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its intended force or novelty, especially when at some time it was considered distinctively forceful or novel.
With Hollywood producing so many movies ever year, it is no surprise that they are often full of clichés. Jeff Smith created this montage under the Bottoms Up Productions label for acclaimed movie blog FilmDrunk.com, showing clips of some of the biggest movie clichés from a total of 102 films. The list of films are below the video. Enjoy!

Hollywood executives can breathe a slight sigh of relief: Winter 2011 has finally come to its ignominious conclusion, with Hall Pass topping an otherwise uneventful week at the box office. Not too far behind was fellow Warner Bros. release Unknown and Disney/Touchstone animated hit Gnomeo and Juliet, while the week's other opener Drive Angry failed to shift out of first gear. Thanks to Hall Pass's middling result and Drive Angry's disastrous start, overall box office was off 11 percent from last year when Shutter Island led for the second week in a row. Hall Pass ended its first week just shy of $18 million. That's down from The Farrelly Bros.'s 2007 comedy The Heartbreak Kid but up a bit from Fever Pitch and Stuck on You (though the gap with Fever Pitch closes when adjusting for ticket price inflation). While it did take the top spot, Hall Pass has the...

Elizabeth McGovern has admitted that her relationship with Sean Penn was "exhausting". The actress, who dated Penn in the 1980s after they met on the set of film Racing With the Moon, claimed that Penn was too intense for her to handle, reports the Daily Mail. "Sean was an important relationship for me. It was the frenzy of Sean's feeling that overwhelmed me," she said. The Oscar-nominated star added: "But there's a drama to the way Sean lives every bit of his life. (more)...

Twilight fans aren’t going to know what hit them. That’s because while Billy Burke has made an impression as Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) mild mannered father in the Twilight movies, in director Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry 3D, Burke plays an over-the-top villainous cult leader that dresses like a rock star.
But let me back up a second. Back in early May, I got to visit the set of Drive Angry while the film was being shot in Shreveport, Louisiana. While studios usually wait till closer to release to let us post on set interviews, I’m giving Summit a lot of credit for letting us get a jump on Comic-Con and lifting the embargo today. Much more after the jump:

Billy Burke is a compelling and critically acclaimed actor whose credits span both television and feature film. In the phenomenally successful Twilight films, he plays Charlie Swan, the Forks Chief of Police, who is also the father of Bella (Kristen Stewart), a young woman torn between her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), and her werewolf best friend, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).
The latest installment, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, sees Bella and Charlie sharing some highly memorable, touching and funny father-daughter moments, which the actor said he really enjoyed filming. In this exclusive interview with Collider, Billy Burke talked about working with the talented Kristen Stewart, how he could never choose between Team Edward and Team Jacob, his thoughts on the baby in Breaking Dawn and how he’s looking forward to working with Bill Condon.
He also talked about his role in the upcoming 3-D action thriller Drive Angry,...

It's been a while since I've proudly identified myself as a Nicolas Cage fan. But I'm saying it here, and I'm saying it's because of all the years in the wilderness, not in spite of it. I've been there from the start. 13-year-old me saw "Valley Girl" in the theater. Twice, courtesy the movie theater usher older brother of a friend. 14-year-old-me took two different girls to see "Racing With The Moon" when it played, and both times, I got to touch a boob as a direct result of the movie, which automatically made it better-than-almost-any-other-movie-ever. Cage was a guy...

Whatever happened to the Cage who started out making films like Racing with the Moon, Peggy Sue Got Married, Raising Arizona and Moonstruck? Or the later Cage, who intrigued with potent, evocative performances in Wild at Heart and Leaving Las Vegas? Or even the Cage who carried solid, action-packed films like The Rock (one of the few Michael Bay films that are worth watching) or Face/Off? There was a time when I looked forward to seeing a new Nic Cage film, when his talent on screen, combined with an ability to discern which scripts were worth making, made a new Nic Cage film something to at least be interested in, if not excited about. But these days, his choices tend more toward the explosion-packed and banal than the engaging and brilliant. And I miss the other Nic Cage.
