Before David Simon debuted his groundbreaking socio-political tapestry “The Wire” to audiences and helped garner the prestige HBO now only reserves for “Game of Thrones” and superhero spinoffs, he wrote the book on the world of crime and law enforcement in Baltimore. Published in 1991, his non-fiction book “Homicide: A Year of Killing Streets” pools two years of research from Simon’s time spent observing the Baltimore Police Department, which itself followed four years spent on the police beat for The Baltimore Sun newspaper.
Wishing to adapt the book into a feature film, Simon got a copy to filmmaker and Baltimore native Barry Levinson, who felt the material was better suited to a TV series. Levinson shared with Paul Attansio, a former Washington Post film critic whose would go on to write the Oscar-nominated “Quiz Show,” as well as “Donnie Brasco,” and together the team brought the project to NBC, where...

It’s been five years since Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger was canceled by Freeform after two seasons, and the rumors of a series revival have started to gain momentum again. There was not much news on the series after it was scrapped, but an insider has provided an insight as to the fate of the show.
Oliva Holt and Aubrey Joseph in Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger / Marvel Television
Cloak & Dagger was well-received by fans after the first installment aired in 2018, but the sequel proved to be a hit-and-miss as viewership dropped tremendously. While this is not entirely the reason why it was never renewed, ratings play a big part in a franchise’s life.

Quick Links Davey Osborne Creates a Fantasy World and an Imaginary Hero Cloak & Dagger Is a Hitchcockian Children's Thriller Jack Flack Always Escapes Until Children Stop Believing Cloak & Dagger tiptoes the line between thrilling and too dark for kids by placing a child in danger without going too far. The film blends fantasy and thriller elements, borrowing a style from Alfred Hitchcock to create a unique viewing experience. By portraying villains as one-dimensional automata, Cloak & Dagger keeps a light tone despite its intense storyline.
When a film places a child in danger, as is the case throughout the 1984 childrens action-adventure film Cloak & Dagger, such a film risks offending an audiences sensibilities. The ability of Cloak & Dagger, which pushes the boundaries of just how exciting and intense a childrens movie should be, to navigate this tricky genre tightrope represents the films supreme achievement.

The McU's new Marvel Television banner can learn some valuable lessons from mistakes in the previous Marvel Television's projects. The old Marvel Television shied away from comic-accurate costumes, reversed major MCU events, and wasted many brilliant minor characters. Mistakes from Marvel Television's past negatively impacted the MCU, so this should be avoided in the future.
Mistakes in Marvel Television's previous TV shows, released adjacent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, can teach the new Marvel Television some valuable lessons. Long before Marvel Studios began producing its own TV shows for Disney+, Marvel Entertainment entrusted Marvel Television with developing series for various networks that expanded the world of the MCU significantly. In recent years, doubt has been cast on whether Marvel Television's previous projects are considered canon to the McU's main continuity, and this dispute has been exacerbated by the recent revival of the Marvel Television banner, which will now develop shows specifically set in the MCU.

Marvel Studios has introduced a new banner for the McU's upcoming TV shows, reviving Marvel Television. Marvel Television's upcoming series include Agatha All Along, Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart. Marvel Television's revival proves Marvel Studios is actively trying to fix its recent mistakes with its TV production techniques.
Following recent criticisms and major creative overhauls, Marvel Studios has implemented new banners for its upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, proving the studio is learning from its recent Phase 4 and 5 mistakes. For over a decade between 2008's Iron Man and 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel Studios' Infinity Saga comprised only feature films, but the MCU saw a huge expansion into the world of TV and animation in 2021. This came after the establishment of the Disney+ streaming service, marking the beginning of the McU's Multiverse Saga, but this produced its own set of problems for Marvel Studios.

Marvel Television was originally a separate entity from Marvel Studios, spearheaded by Jeph Loeb under the watchful eye of former Marvel Entertainment Chairman Isaac Perlmutter.
Before being shut down in 2019 (when Disney handed full control of all things Marvel to Kevin Feige), Marvel Television produced the likes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Netflix's Defenders slate, and even the likes of Cloak & Dagger, The Runaways, and M.O.D.O.K.
The vast majority of characters were off-limits to Marvel Television, with Marvel Studios' desires prioritised by Disney. For Feige, Loeb's outfit was an annoyance, particularly as much of what they produced - Inhumans, for example - damaged the MCU brand.
Marvel Studios has since discovered that producing TV shows isn't as easy as it looks. Last year, the decision was made to creatively overhaul Daredevil: Born Again and the studio's small screen output as a whole, with "Head Writers" finally replaced with proper showrunners.

If you were a kid growing up in the ’80s, one thing was true. Video games were the spawn of Satan. Okay, we know that isn’t true. But our parents? Adults were terrified of your Atari and your Nintendo, and filmmakers made all sorts of movies that painted games in a negative light. In Wargames a nuclear war was damn near started! While there were plenty of films that understood the imagination and the creative spirit that video games could foster, such as Tron and The Last Starfighter for examples, there’s also a film such as Cloak & Dagger, which goes to some really dark territory to teach a lesson to kids that, honestly, everyone could stand to learn.

Fans were thrilled when, over the course of a few days in December 2021, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vicent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin were officially introduced into the main MCU continuity in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye, respectively. Of course, they were technically part of the MCU before, but in the forgotten sector of Marvel Television that was largely abandoned when Disney+ arrived. Daredevil and the other Netflix series were not alone in this group. There were also the network tv shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Cloak and Dagger, and shows on Hulu – Runaways and Hellstrom. Several of these have transitioned over to Disney+, so some fans are theorizing on Reddit as to how popular characters could find their way into the upcoming films and TV shows.

Hollywood acknowledges the existence of America’s proto- C.I.A. intelligence agency with this espionage tale of Yanks working with the resistance in occupied France. It’s basic cloak ‘n’ dagger action, with intrepid Alan Ladd and the daring Geraldine Fitzgerald risking life and limb to plant plastic explosive bombs. The details are fairly interesting: Ladd outwits the Gestapo by working with a turncoat inside their ranks. The outcome is grimly realistic, even if that old Paramount glamour is part of the package. The writer-producer is Richard Maibaum, who would later write almost thirty years’ worth of franchise James Bond 007 adventures.

This article contains Loki spoilers.
Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has gotten all timey-wimey, it’s not so simple to keep track of this massive franchise’s order of events. With Loki, the latest Marvel TV show to premiere on Disney+, Phase Four is delving even further into time travel, a narrative concept first properly introduced to the MCU in Avengers: Endgame when our titular heroes traveled back into their own timelines to collect the Infinity Stones needed to defeat Thanos.
For the most part, Endgame didn’t mess with the MCU’s own timeline, but rather tried to slot its timey-wimey shenanigans into the spaces of its established chronology. In the first episode of Loki, Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) even tells Loki that all of the time travel done by the Avengers was part of the Sacred Timeline. It was all “meant” to happen, so it’s fine.
