The 13th annual Panic Fest runs from March 27 – April 6, 2025, and we’ve got the exclusive info on some exciting new additions today along with the festival’s full lineup.

Presented by IFC Films, for starters, Clown in a Cornfield and The Ugly Stepsister will close out the in-person festival on Wednesday, April 2nd.

Also joining the lineup; Roadside Attractions’ new Nicolas Cage beach thriller The Surfer; Psychosexual horror-comedy from Addison Heimann, Touch Me; Soul Reaper, an Indonesian horror that flirts with being a modern-day Dream Warriors; director Izzy Lee’s nightmare trip, House of Ashes; a twisty found footage film from director Steven Hugh Nelson, Old Wounds; and Hungarian psychological thriller Tomorrow I Die directed by Nikol Cibulya.

Panic Fest will also be bringing back well-loved events like its signature Friday Filmmaker Mixer and Saturday Night Karaoke in Rewind Video and Dive, presented by Shudder.

How do Lucio Fulci fans catalogue their favorites? By number of atrocious set pieces? Or by simply weighing the entrails and moving from there? Fulci’s career is by no means limited to his gruesome peak in the late ’70s and early ’80s, but it’s sure difficult to find many who hold his ’60s spy knockoffs and westerns in as high regard as violent stoners do the likes of Zombie, The New York Ripper, and City of the Living Dead (also known as The Gates of Hell). While there’s no denying the effectiveness of the cheapjack surrealism underpinning The Beyond, most of his other gore touchstones are notable only for the extreme lengths they’re willing to go, not how far they’re capable of burrowing beyond viewers’ gag reflexes.

Jack Hedley, who appeared in films including “For Your Eyes Only” opposite Roger Moore, died on Dec. 11. He was 92.

His death was confirmed by a notice in The Times of London, which reads: “[Hedley] died on 11th December 2021, aged 92, after a short illness bravely borne. At his request there will be no funeral. He will be much missed by his family and friends.”

The actor racked up 99 credits in a career spanning five decades as well as numerous appearances in the theater.

Born in London as Jack Hawkins, he changed his last name at the outset of his career to avoid confusion with a prolific British actor of the same name.

Hedley appeared in numerous British productions including “Colditz,” in which he played Lt. Colonel Preston, and “The Scarlet Blade,” directed by John Gilling. He also had parts in American war epic “The Longest Day,” which starred John Wayne, Robert Ryan and Richard Burton,...

A note in today’s Times said Hedley, who was born Jack Hawkins, had died on December 11 after a “short illness bravely borne.” At Hedley’s request, there will be no funeral.

Hedley was born in London in 1929 and started appearing in films in the 1950s. He starred in the BBC series The World of Tim Frazer in the early 1960s and went on to feature in a number of films that decade, including Lawrence of Arabia, The Scarlet Blade, Witchcraft and The Secret of Blood Island (pictured).

He was to further make a name for himself many years later when he was cast as Sir Timothy Havelock in James Bond’s For Your Eyes Only, for which he also voiced Havelock’s Parrot.

When film fans hear the name of Italian director Lucio Fulci, it almost inevitably brings to mind his oft-quoted moniker as the “Godfather of Gore,” thanks to the films made towards the end of his career that caused so much trouble with the British film censors; Zombie Flesh Eaters (1980), The Beyond (1981) New York Ripper (1983) being some of the most notorious. To view him as such however is to miss out on what was an extraordinarily prolific career which also included musicals, comedies, westerns, historical dramas, fantasy films, science fiction and thrillers. This new Blu-ray and digital release of The Psychic, out now in a 2K restoration from Shameless Films, is an opportunity to reassess one of his less well known films, which is only now being released in the UK for the first time.

There were three ties among this year’s winner’s pool – RuPaul’s Drag Race” (VH1) and The Great British Baking Sho” (Netflix) tied for Best Competition Series, The Masked Singer (Fox) and The Voice (NBC) tied for Best Competition Series: Talent/Variety.

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Food Network) and The Oprah Conversation (Apple TV+) tied for Best Structured Series.

RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1) was the only series to take home multiple awards, also winning for Best Ensemble Cast In An Unscripted Series.

In the fan voted categories, Phil Rosenthal – Somebody Feed Phil”(Netflix) was awarded Male Star of the Year, while Sandra Lee – Dr. Pimple Popper (TLC) was named Female Star of the Year.

Unsurprisingly, with just five days to go until Christmas, the focus for a lot of people has shifted solely towards festive fare, even if the ongoing effects of the Coronavirus pandemic promise a holiday season unlike any other in living memory, with restrictions being tightened around the world as the recent surge in infections shows no signs of slowing down.

Luckily, there are more than enough streaming services available to provide plenty of content to keep everyone occupied, and while Christmas movies have been dominating the Netflix Top 10 most-watched list all week, heartwarming tales of family and friendship aren’t the only titles being added to the library these days.

Netflix has treated us well so far this December by offering an incredible selection of fresh movies and shows to watch as the weather gets colder and the holidays inch closer. We’ve had wonderful additions like Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, star-studded original film The Prom, and beloved Adam Sandler flicks 50 First Dates and Little Nicky. And that’s before mentioning all of the new Christmas movies that the platform has received throughout the month already.

Today’s decently-sized drop brings with it a handful of notable releases, too, primarily comprised of brand new original Netflix content that’s certain to be right up the alley of some folks. We’re now officially about to enter the week before Christmas, and ahead of the festivities, the streaming giant has a few notable releases, holiday-related or otherwise, set to drop. On the whole, it’s a relatively quiet week for Netflix, but there are still a bunch of movies and TV shows that you’ll want to check out.

On Monday, December 14th, three new additions become available – holiday romcom A California Christmas, the second season of animated series Hilda and Tiny Pretty Things, a ballet-themed TV drama based on the bestselling novel of the same name.

Moving on to Tuesday, the batch of fresh titles includes musical docuseries Song Exploder Volume 2, the first two seasons of Teen Mom and The Professor and the Madman, the historical biopic starring Mel Gibson, Sean Penn and Natalie Dormer.

British miniseries The Ripper officially joins Netflix's perpetually expanding true-crime library on Dec. 16 - and no, it's not about Jack the Ripper. The murder documentary, rather, follows the gruesome trail of one of Britain's deadliest serial killers: Peter Sutcliffe, whom the English media notoriously dubbed the Yorkshire Ripper. A former lorry driver, Sutcliffe killed 13 women and attempted to kill seven more in Yorkshire and northwest England during the late '70s. After what the public perceived as a mishandling of this case, police caught the Yorkshire Ripper half a decade into his murderous rampage. This year, Sutcliffe died on Nov. 13 at the age of 74 after contracting the coronavirus.

Sutcliffe's reign of terror officially ended in 1981 when he was convicted for his crimes. From 1975 to 1980, Sutcliffe brutally murdered women with weapons such as screwdrivers and hammers. Many of his victims, one as young as 16, were sex workers whom the police spoke of disparagingly.

Just because December is a time to celebrate festive movies, that doesn’t mean horror needs to take a back seat, and this month will be full of new genre offerings for fans to dig into.

Already available is Icelandic vampire film Thirst, where an addict accused of murdering her brother turns to an ancient vampire to bring him back, and Anything for Jackson, which sees an elderly couple kidnap a young pregnant woman to fuse the spirit of their dead grandson with the unborn child.

Out today, meanwhile, is Freaky – on VOD, at least, as it had a very limited theatrical run last month – a horror comedy where a high school girl and a serial killer swap bodies, Castle Freak, which follows a young woman who inherits a creepy old castle with connections to an ancient cult worshipping alien deities, What Lies Below, where a teenage girl comes to...

The year is almost over. The Hargreeves kids have saved the world and Beth Harmon has checkmated her last opponent. But in its new releases for December 2020, Netflix still has some tricks up its sleeve.

For starters, Netflix is ending this most curious year with some promising original films. David Fincher’s long-awaited Mank arrives on Dec. 4 to fill us in on the story of Citizen Kane‘s screenwriter. Then on Dec. 11, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and James Corden do their best musical impression with The Prom. Chadwick Boseman’s final film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom debuts on Dec. 18. Then George Clooney rounds out the month with The Midnight Sky on Dec. 23.

But of course, it’s in the original series realm where Netflix does most of its work. The biggest one comes at month’s end this December. The final season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premieres on New Year’s Eve.

Calling all true-crime fans: a new Netflix miniseries on one of Britain's most notorious serial killers is coming. The Ripper will be released next month and will tell the true story of Peter Sutcliffe's five-year reign of terror across Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, which saw over a dozen women brutally murdered and countless more assaulted.

Dubbed the Yorkshire Ripper because of the similarities of his crimes to the legendary Victorian killer, Sutcliffe was finally caught and jailed for life in 1981. However, as we see in the trailer, at the height of his killing spree many didn't believe the police would ever be able to bring the killer to justice. In archival footage collated for the series, we see a woman remark, "Five years is too long. If they haven't caught him yet, I don't think they ever will," while another interviewee reflects, "He had successfully hoodwinked the entire police force.

With just a few days of November left, we’ve now got a look at what’s coming to Netflix across December and the following breakdown gives us a strong idea of what to expect from the streaming giant next month. As you can see down below, it promises that a number of exciting original releases are on their way. Many of these are some of the most-anticipated titles of the year as well, meaning Netflix has truly saved the best for last.

On December 1st, we know to expect animated sequel Angela’s Christmas Wish and The Holiday Movies That Made Us, a documentary which looks at the best Christmas films around, while a ton of licensed titles will be added as well. Adam Sandler’s beloved 50 First Dates will be joining the platform, along with Jon Favreau’s excellent Chef, two Jurassic Park movies and more.

It has begun. The steady trickle of films about Labradors who save Christmas, American girls marrying European princes, and parents learning that their kids are more important than their jobs, is with us. Netflix is responsible for a good proportion of the above, with several new festive titles arriving over the next few weeks.

If that does nothing for you, then you might be more interested in the arrival of three non-tinsel films on the service this month. The man himself is just as much an enigma: he was a prolific director of comedies and westerns before transitioning to gialli and, eventually, some of the most hardcore horror films ever made. His life is marked by illness and tragedy, events which no doubt inform his work. He was known by those who worked with him as a tyrant and a grouch, a spirited collaborator and gifted artist. But who was Lucio Fulci really? This is the question at the center of Fulci for Fake, director Simone Scafidi’s fascinating documentary and the first biopic ever made about the maestro of Italian horror.

Lieutenant Fred Williams (Jack Hedley) is easily the horror cinema’s most pedestrian, laid back, and disinterested police detective in recent memory. In Lucio Fulci’s infamous slasher outing The New York Ripper (1982), a spate of brutal crimes involving young women being sliced up by a knife-wielding maniac who quacks like a duck lands right smack into Williams’s lap and he couldn’t be more bored by it. Mr. Hedley’s characterization of this by-the-book investigator was no doubt in the script, but his character just meanders through his scenes with such an aloof attitude that it’s amazing no one calls him out on it. The few times Williams does appear to spring to life are when the sex lives of his victims are revealed, which he reacts to with a judgmental shrug and smirk when he’s...

It’s a big week for horror and sci-fi home media releases, as we have some stellar collections coming our way this Tuesday. Scream Factory is set to thrill fans with their Collector’s Edition of Night of the Creeps, and as if that wasn’t enough, Eli Roth’s The Green Inferno is also getting the Collector’s Edition treatment, and they’ve put together a Blu for Monster on the Campus as well.

Arrow Video has compiled the second installment of their American Horror Project box set series that cult film fans will undoubtedly want to add to their collections, Blue Underground is celebrating The New York Ripper with a 3-Disc Limited Edition set, and Severin Films is resurrecting The Beast in Heat on both Blu and DVD, too.

Other releases for June 25th include The Believers, Night Killer, Ctrl, The Dark Side of the Moon and Isabelle.

After raising the dead in 1979's Zombie (aka Zombi 2), Lucio Fulci took a blood-spattered "bite out of the Big Apple" in the giallo The New York Ripper. Previously released on Blu-ray back in 2016, Blue Underground will unleash a new 4K restoration of the 1982 horror film in a 3-disc limited edition Blu-ray this summer, and we have a look at the full list of bonus features and a trailer for the new restoration from the original camera negative.

With an impressive list of highly successful original shows to its name, Amazon Prime Video is ringing in March with even more original content for fans. This month will mark the debut of series such as “The Widow,” a British show which follows the story of a woman (Kate Beckinsale) whose husband has just died in the Congo, and “Costume Quest,” a new animated show adapted from the popular video game of the same name which follows three characters who fight against nougat-eating monsters on Halloween.

But fans can also look forward to continuations of their favorite Prime Originals, including the fourth and final season of “Catastrophe” and the second season of “Tin Star.” And despite all its new shows, Amazon is also giving love to classic favorites, adding titles such as “Double Jeopardy,” “Tapeheads,” and “Black Sheep” to its ever-growing roster.

Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that several original shows will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in March, including the fourth and final season of the BAFTA-winning comedy “Catastrophe,” the sophomore season of the crime drama “Tin Star” and the first edition of the thriller “Hanna.”

Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first appearances on Amazon Prime Video in March including the Oscar-nominated “Cold War” by Polish director Paweł Pawlikowski and the costume drama “Colette” starring Keira Knightley.

Below is the full schedule of everything that is coming to Amazon Prime Video in March 2019. Unlike Netflix, Amazon does not disclose the shows and movies leaving the service in any given month. We’ve done some digging and unearthed a few titles that will be exiting Amazon Prime Video in the first week of March.

In 2015’s Curve, starring Julianne Hough, the pervert drifter antagonist stomps her phone, snuffing out its electronic life and hampering her escape plans—no further explanation required. A phone ends up in a punch bowl in David Gordon Green’s Halloween to explain its later critical absence, disappointing given the original’s iconic phone scene (a ghostly Michael Myers murders Lynda with the cord).

It’s been a while since I’ve taken a Fulci out for a spin; frankly the latter part of his career has generally been met with the indifference (and occasional disdain) afforded his fellow countryman Dario Argento. Fair? Well, art is subjective, but even strict apologists have a hard time defending some late in the game efforts. Which brings us to Aenigma (1987), Fulci’s take on Argento, and a fine last gasp of electric madness.

Distributed by Filman International late December in France, Aenigma didn’t see release in Fulci’s homeland until August of ’88; by this point his films weren’t even making it stateside anymore, and it didn’t show up in North America until late October the following year for a limited run. When DVDs started making noise in the early ‘00s, Aenigma was finally brought to a wider audience who promptly gave it the awkward smile of a disappointed parent.

Throughout the late 1960s and into the 70s, the Italian giallo movement transported viewers to the far corners of the globe, from swinging San Francisco to the Soviet-occupied Prague. Only one, however, brought the genre s unique brand of bloody mayhem as far as Australia: director Flavio Mogherini (Delitto passionales) tragic and poetic The Pyjama Girl Case.

The body of a young woman is found on the beach, shot in the head, burned to hide her identity and dressed in distinctive yellow pyjamas. With the Sydney police stumped, former Inspector Timpson comes out of retirement to crack the case. Treading where the real detectives can t, Timpson doggedly pieces together the sad story of Dutch immigrant Glenda Blythe and the unhappy chain of events which led to her grisly demise.

I’ve been in love with the work of Italian horror legend Lucio Fulci since the age of ten, when I saw his undead classic Zombie (1979); from the smiling undead VHS box art to the creeping, gory grey dread contained within, I was hooked. That was the movie easy to find at the boom of the video era, as it was a big hit and everyone stocked it; but further success eluded his work on North American shores, and the horror buff had to scrounge and scour to find his releases. (Except for The Gates of Hell; that one did make it over.) Nearly ten years after his biggest hit, he was set to make a triumphant return to gut munching glory. The result? Zombi 3 (1988), a wonderfully batshit half a Fulci lovingly restored by the demented folks at Severin Films, who continue to drag the underseen into the light for seasoned collectors and neophytes alike.

During the early 60’s to the mid 80’s Italian horror was in its heyday – directors such as Mario Bava, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Antonio Margheriti, Umberto Lenzi, Joe D’Amato, and Enzo. G. Castellari directed some of the most outrageous terror films ever. Films that, at the time, pushed boundaries, depicting some of the most stylish and horrific on screen images. But at the same time these films included some of the most elegant and beautiful scores, scores which gained a cult following then and to this day – and they remain as popular now as they’ve ever been.

While Lucio Fulci made his reputation with a series of graphically violent horror movies like Zombie (Aka Zombi 2), City of the Living Dead (Aka The Gates of Hell), The House by the Cemetery, The Beyond, and The New York Ripper, his early career was a hodgepodge of film genres including comedies, spaghetti westerns, and poliziotteschi. However, many critics argue that his greatest films were his early gialli films like A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin and Don’t Torture a Duckling. Fulci was handicapped by terribly low budgets for most of his career but some of his earlier works were actually well-funded, allowing his cinematic craftsmanship to be on full display. Such was the case with Don’t Torture a Duckling.

As was the case with many gialli of the time period, the film titles were influenced by Argento’s first three gialli, collectively known as the “Animal Trilogy.

If I haven’t made it clear in previous articles or on social media, let me do so now: I’m a firm believer that Lucio Fulci is one of, if not the, greatest horror directors to ever live. While dismissed as a schlock artist by critics in his time, Fulci’s unique brand of horror, borne from a holy fusion of market-friendly gore and surrealist pure cinema, has aged remarkably well. But before he mingled among zombies or cracked open the gates of hell, Fulci directed a few violent giallo films, including the incredibly depressing Don’t Torture a Duckling, which recently received a new restoration and Blu-ray release from Arrow Video.
