terrific show hosted by the "navel of America"

"The Cher Show" started after the divorce of Cher and Sonny Bono. It was a music- and Comedyshow, in which Cher always invited famous Gueststars, like Bette Midler or Elton John in the first show, but also Tina Turner, Jerry Lewis, Nancy Walker, Lily Tomlin or Ray Charles were guests of the show. Very interesting are the appearances of Gregg Allman, which became Cher's second husband and father of her son.

Cher used the show to proof that she could succeed in TV also without her ex-husband Sonny, and she did it quite well. She was funny, attractive as usually and sang great duets with other stars like Tina Turner or Ray Charles.

Certainlx the music parts are the better parts of the show. Cher's voice has always been very emotional and special. The combination of her powerful voice, her sexy body and the beautiful Bob Macky dresses made the most important part of the show.

Besides the songs and duets, Cher played in lots of comedy and slapstick appearances with Comedystars like Lily Tomlin, Jerry Lewis or Steve Martin. The most popular part was Cher's role as Laverne, a character she created in her show with Sonny years before.

Cher's show is interesting, because it shows how variable she is. At that time everybody knew her as Popstar, but nobody expected her to become an Academy Award winning actress and the most successful Diva.

    "Ladies and gentlemen.... Cher."

I used to love the intro to this television show when the audience went quiet and the male voice used to say, "Ladies and gentlemen... Cher." And suddenly a huge spotlight would appear on Cher, slinking down the catwalk in a stunning and revealing number, holding a microphone and crooning out a lounge song.

What I really liked about this show were the skits involving Cher's good friend, Carol Burnett, who made regular appearances all the time. Although this show never carried the same chemistry and spark as "The Sonny & Cher Show" did, Cher always managed to fill the family room with laughter and talent.

    Thank you Cher!

Great Stuff, and not available yet on DVD

This very colorful and engaging variety show had all the splash that the 70's wanted to be .Cher does it all(acting, singing, dancing, joking) and is simply stunning ,never second fiddle to any of her famous guests! Musical numbers are great!! I would love to relive these shows! Some of her guests are Jimmy Durante,Tatum O'Neal,Raquel Welsch,as well as Greg Allman, and Kris and Rita! Her duets with Ray Charles(Georgia),and Elto John(Benny and the Jetts) are superb! It would be fitting to release a DVD of the costumed musical numbers alone.Producer George Sclatter outdid himself with color and momentum! A 70's high point."Cher" was the best musical -variety show of the 70's! Even, surpassing the Sonny and Cher comedy hour.
