    A very high-quality TV series

I can't believe that no-one has reviewed this yet !

This is a series set during the gold rush of the late 19th century in the Bathurst area (mid west NSW, Australia). Like so many ABC productions, is mainly about the lives of the people of the time and how they interact with each other. It is filmed on-site in the actual area, in the very beautiful towns of Sofala and Hill End, which even today have kept many many traces of their gold rush history still alive.

It has the usual ABC meticulous attention to detail which adds so much to the veracity of the show. If anything, it might possibly be a little over-acted and slightly overly dramatic ( I think that a couple of the villains are just a little tooooooo villanous ... ), but setting that aside, it seems a very very very realistic coverage of what life might have been like in the goldfields of the time. So certainly it achieves with mighty success its main objective.

For all of you ladies out there who might be reading this viewing, you might be motivated to see this series just for the thrill of seeing John Waters in (and occasionally out of) police uniform. I can distinctly remember that that was the main appeal of this show as far as my (then teenage) sisters were concerned :-)

One of the first "Must Watch" series from Australia

The 1970s saw a rebirth for the Australian film industry. This had a positive effect on TV production. The Whitlam years had given Australians confidence in hearing and telling their own stories. "Rush" was one of the first series to tell the story of the Australian bush of the mid 19th century in an authentic way. The lead, played by John Waters, was superb casting and there was great support as well. The music, by Australian composer George Dreyfus, actually made the hit parade. The success of this series made the networks more committed to the production of commercial Australian drama. The ABC went on to make many more fine programs about Australian settlement.

A Distant memory from my childhood...

I'm here trying to find the wonderful theme music, written by Geoff Harvey, which, along with the entire series, seems to have disappeared completely from the internet!

I was ten years old when the series was released and I watched it very late on Sunday nights in the HTV Region of South Wales (UK) and enjoyed the show but loved the music! Alas, I'm still searching for clips and longer versions of what little of the thee tune is available online.

Strange how a popular show can simply...disappear....

    golden television

i cannot believe that this series is so neglected in comment

this was an awesome production filled with the magic of rough tough rural Australian life as it was like in those days of gold prospectors. not to mention all the villains that ended up down under for one reason or another. truly epic television which formulated a vivid insight into rural Australian in a bygone era.

nostalgia at its best when you think back to watching with your mum and dad on late night uk television, why of why do they not put some of the series on DVD - this is what we want many people that watched this show would go right out and buy them.
