Jersey Shore: Family Vacation “Scavenger Hunt”
Jersey Shore: Family Vacation (2018)
Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. A show about adults behaving like they’re still spring-breaking in Seaside Heights, only now with mortgages and minivans. In this week’s “Scavenger Hunt” episode, the aging guidos and guidettes continue their Miami Beach bacchanal, but not without a healthy dose of manufactured drama. Apparently, Deena’s attempt at organized fun backfires spectacularly. […]

Paul Maslansky, ‘Police Academy’ Producer, Dies at 91
Image
Paul Maslansky, a producer behind films such as “Police Academy” and “Return to Oz,” died on Monday of natural causes at a hospital in Los Robles, Calif. He was 91.

Maslansky collaborated frequently with Oscar winner Alan Ladd Jr. Together they worked on “The Russia House,” “Death Line,” “Race With the Devil” and “Damnation Alley.” He also produced “Love Child” in 1982 as well as the 1979 comedy film “Scavenger Hunt” and the 1995 fantasy feature “Fluke,” starring Matthew Modine.

Following the production of “Love Child,” Ladd requested that Maslansky advise on The Ladd Co.’s upcoming movie “The Right Stuff.” After watching the parade scene in the film, Maslansky wrote a short story about a group of police cadets. This would go on to become “Police Academy,” which grossed $82 million in 1984 and led to six film sequels, an animated television show and a live-action series.

Prior to the film’s theatrical release, Maslansky...

Maslansky died Monday of natural causes at a hospital in Los Robles, California, his partner of 16 years, Sally Emr, told The Hollywood Reporter.

The New Yorker made his producing debut in Italy on The Castle of the Living Dead (1964), starring Christopher Lee, and he filmed George Cukor’s penultimate feature, the Elizabeth Taylor-starring The Blue Bird (1976), and Fred Schepisi’s The Russia House (1990), starring Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer, in the Soviet Union.

TIFF Dispatch: Hunt or Be Hunted

Illustrations by Maddie Fischer. To participate in the Toronto International Film Festival Scavenger Hunt, simply take a selfie with each of the eight “landmarks” around Festival Street—the three-block stretch of King Street where you’ll find key festival venues, food trucks, and brand activations—then enter a raffle to win a prize. I wondered what a “landmark” would look like as I began my search one evening, killing time before Roberto Minervini’s existentialist war movie The Damned (all films 2024). I imagined informational placards on the festival’s main theaters—maybe I could learn something about the architecture of Roy Thomson Hall, the distinctive concert hall that resembles a mirrored funnel? Or some bizarre trivia about the Reitman family, that cinematic dynasty who developed the Lightbox Theater?I spotted the first landmark: a black square of poster board, affixed to a crowd-control barricade. It was adorned with plain white text,...

"Don't Look in Jon's Basement!": Garfield's Long-Lost Missing Character Implies Jon Is a Psychopath
Image
Lyman's mysterious disappearance has been a subject of debate among Garfield fans for years. Evidence from a book and a now unplayable game suggests that Lyman might be hiding in Jon Arbuckle's basement. If true, this revelation would change fans' perception of Jon, painting him as a ruthless psychopath.

Introduced as Jon's roommate and Odie's original owner, Lyman suddenly vanished in the 1980s. Fans have debated for years over what happened to him, but the truth seems to be darker than they thought, according to the comic's creator.

In the 1998 book 20 Years & Still Kicking!: Garfield's Twentieth Anniversary Collection by Jim Davis,...

This will be the first project falling under Stallone and Balboa’s multi-year, first-look deal with Amazon Studios, which we were first to report on last week — an agreement that will have Stallone write, direct, produce and star in both scripted and unscripted projects for the studio, for film and TV. A director has not yet been attached.

‘My Man Godfrey’ Blu-ray Review (Criterion)
Stars: Carole Lombard, William Powell, Gail Patrick, Eugene Pallette, Alice Brady | Written by Eric Hatch, Morrie Ryskind | Directed by Gregory La Cava

The fate of the stars of this socially-conscious screwball comedy, directed by former animator Gregory La Cava in 1936, couldn’t be more different. Carole Lombard was cruelly cut off in her prime, dying in a plane crash at the age of 33, while William Powell led a remarkably long life, marrying three times and beating cancer, before passing in 1984.

They show great chemistry in La Cava’s darkly comic fable. The rich WASPs of New York engage in a “Scavenger Hunt”, getting wasted and hunting down things no one else wants. This includes Godfrey (Powell), a homeless man living on a trash heap. He spurns the condescending Cornelia Bullock (Gail Patrick), but when her sister Irene (Lombard) takes an interest, he lets her take him back to the party,...

It Came From The Tube: Escape (1971)
There aren’t a ton of absolutes in life, but among a laundry list of things I enjoy whilst spinning around the sun, here’s three: Christopher George, private dicks, and mad scientists. And so imagine my delight when I stumbled across Escape (1971), a failed TV pilot about an ex escape artist turned P.I. who investigates, in his words, “the unexplainable.” And while the pilot doesn’t dip its toes too much into the pool of the unusual, it sure feels like that’s the way they were planning to go.

Not picked up by the network and instead broadcast on April 6th as an ABC Movie of the Week, Escape did little to swerve people away from their Hee Haw’s, All in the Family’s and 60 Minutes for the brass to reconsider putting it back on the slab. What a shame; Escape today plays as Bruce Wayne...

Star Wars Galactic Nights Celebration Returns to Disney World
Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, James Earl Jones, David Prowse, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Épisode IV - Un nouvel espoir (1977)
Disney is bringing back the fan-favorite Star Wars Galactic Nights this December to celebrate the release of The Last Jedi. The Star Wars-themed event was a big hit last year at the Florida theme park, so it was decided to bring back the after-hours party to eat lightsaber churros and party with Darth Vader. With less than 100 days to go before The Last Jedi comes to theaters, excitement is through the roof.

Galactic Nights premiered at Hollywood Studios this past April during Star Wars Celebration Orlando as a special one-time event filled with Star Wars celebrities, a scavenger hunt, and even the first appearance of Rey during the Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away show. StarWars.com has announced that Galactic Nights will be coming back one more time (until the release of Star Wars 9), December 16th, the day after the release of The Last Jedi and tickets are now on sale.

St. Louis: Get Your Witch Hunt On With Our Blair Witch Scavenger Hunt
I make no apologies about it, The Blair Witch Project is one of my Top 10 horror films. I saw it when I was 18 years old and it was the last film that made my heart skip a beat. While I can’t say the same for Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows, that hasn’t hindered my excitement for the new film, Blair Witch, coming out September 16th. One of my favorite writer/director teams, Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard, are behind this new entry and I am counting down the days until I get to see it. Until then, we have come up with a fun event called the “Blair Witch Scavenger Hunt”!

This Friday, at a location that will be revealed on our Facebook event page (link below) and all of our social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) the day of the event, our local St. Louis...

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Patch 1.30 Inbound
There’s never been a better time to be a fan of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. For those who have never had the chance to give it a spin, the Game of the Year edition is set to launch tomorrow, which includes both the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions, along with all of the game’s free pieces of downloadable content.

These expansions are some of the best we’ve played in recent memory, but The Witcher 3 itself was one of the best game’s of last year. You can check out our original review, in which I gave the game 5 stars out of 5, which we only hand out to a handful of games each year.

If you’re still playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, or are planning to jump into it soon, you’ll be glad to know that developer CD Projekt Red has...

William Shatner Made a Very Cool Tribute to His Star Trek Costar and Friend Leonard Nimoy
William Shatner
William Shatner is many things: actor, singer, writer – and now he can add the title "digital art curator" to the list.

On Aug. 1, Shatner, 84, asked his Twitter followers to send him photos of themselves flashing the traditional Vulcan salute – the "Live long and prosper" hand gesture that his Star Trek costar Leonard Nimoy had originated on the classic sci-fi series. On Sunday, Shatner surprised Star Trek fans with the results of the request: a photomosaic tribute to Nimoy, who died in February.

Why did I ask for all those #Llap selfies? For a @gishwhes task as a tribute to Leonard.

Misha Collins of 'Supernatural' on Running the World's Largest Media Scavenger Hunt
Still of Misha Collins in Supernatural (2005)
Misha Collins is far more than the angel Castiel on the much-adored fantasy adventure series "Supernatural." He also is dedicated to charity work, this time of year partially in the form of the world's largest media scavenger hunt.  Read More: Why The CW Deserves Your Attention For years, Misha Collins has curated a list of tasks ranging from imaginative to absurd, allowing people to compete in an international competition that could bring them anywhere from a water park to a particle accelerator. Gishwhes, an acronym for the aptly-named "Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen," is an amalgam of time-limited scavenger hunt, charity work, public art creation opportunity and exploration project. Collins founded this scavenger hunt somewhat by accident for his fans, and it grew from there into the week-long massive event it is today. Indiewire spoke with Collins about the scavenger hunt, where the idea came from and why.

Wamg At The Ouija Scavenger Hunt
Last week Wamg took to Hollywood Blvd. to scout out some of the most haunted locations for clues in celebration of the release of Ouija on Blu-Ray and DVD (February 3rd). Watson Adventures devised a fun-filled list of places and clues for press members, and sent us out in four different groups to unravel the mysteries of one of the most haunted areas in California.

After the scavenger hunt, guests were treated to an open bar at the historical Boardner’s by La Belle. The historic bar is rumored to be the last place Elizabeth Short was seen alive. She would later be referred to as the Black Dahlia.

Guests enjoyed Ouija themed cocktails, and learned a little bit about Ouija boards from Robert L. Murch, who is the chairman of the board at the Talking Board Historical Society. I asked him about whether there was a difference between the Parker Bros.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki in Supernatural (2005)
Misha Collins' disciples acted not-so-angelic while participating in this year's Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen, and they completely took over the internet. Seriously, things got scary. This is the fourth year that the Supernatural star hosted Gishwhes, which boils down to thousands of people around the world forming teams of 15 and performing weird, random and fun tasks in the name of breaking some Guinness World Records...and donating tens of thousands of dollars to the charity Random Acts and committing thousands of charitable actions around the world, but hey, who's counting?
