The Best Opening Credit Sequences In Movie History — IndieWire Critics Survey
Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Michael Rooker, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Elizabeth Debicki in Les Gardiens de la Galaxie Vol. 2 (2017)
Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: Inspired by Baby Groot’s “Mr. Blue Sky” dance sequence at the beginning of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” what movie has the best opening credits sequence?

April Wolfe (@awolfeful), La Weekly

Hands down, it’s R.W. Fassbinder’s “The Marriage of Maria Braun.” I watch the opening sequence at least three times a year and show it to every filmmaker I can. I love any film that begins with a bang, and this one does quite literally: We open up on an explosion that rips out a hunk of brick wall, exposing a German couple in the middle of a rushed marriage ceremony.

Mirzya Music Review
By Stacey Yount and Aashi Gahlot

According to director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, his upcoming epic Mirzya is three films in one. It is the modern retelling of the Punjabi folk tale Mirza-Sahiban, as well as a classic and unique presentation of the traditional story and one more element that brings it all together that we will find out when the film hits theaters on October 7th. The film introduces Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, along with Anuj Chaudhary, all of who make their debut into the world of cinema in this untold love story of estranged soul mates. Also part of the epic story of love are the brilliant Om Puri, Art Malik, K. K. Raina as well as Anjali Patil.

The story is brought to life in the words of esteemed poet and lyricist Gulzar. For the musical story of the film, Mehra once again worked with the incredible trio of Shankar Mahadevan,...

Killer Mike
Run the Jewels Drops Meow the Jewels, an Album Comprising Cats Meowing
Killer Mike
Earlier this year, El-p and Killer Mike teased that they were remixing their fantastic album Run the Jewels 2 with feline sounds, essentially creating the world's first cat-rap masterpiece. A lot of people obviously thought they were joking, since remixing an entire album with cat noises would be an arduous process, as well as a bizarre way to spend one's time. Well, we were wrong: You can download Meow the Jewels here. I, for one, welcome our feline overlords. Here is the track listing: 1. Meowpurrdy [ft. Lil Bub, Maceo, Delonte and Snoop Dogg] (remixed by El-p)2. Oh My Darling Don't Meow (remixed by Just Blaze)3. Pawfluffer Night (remixed by Zola Jesus) 4. Close Your Eyes and Meow to Fluff [ft. Zack de la Rocha] (remixed by Portishead's Geoff Barrow) 5. All Meow Life (remixed by Nick Hook) 6. Lie, Cheat, Meow (remixed by Prince Paul) 7. Meowrly (remixed by...

Review: John Ford's "My Darling Clementine" (1946) Starring Henry Fonda; Criterion Blu-ray Special Edition
“Ghosts Of Monument Valley”

By Raymond Benson

The great John Ford made many outstanding westerns, and My Darling Clementine (1946) is certainly one of them. I would argue that not since Stagecoach (1939) had there been as good a picture in the genre, and it didn’t even star John Wayne.

Purportedly the story of Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, the Clanton Gang, and the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, the film is hogwash as far as the truth is concerned. But as pure entertainment, it’s right up there with the best of the classic westerns that have given us stylistic and physical imagery that is today considered cliché. And in order to become cliché, whatever it is has to have been great to begin with. It must be a trend setter, a groundbreaker, an artistic decision that resulted in an iconic piece of celluloid. Much of what John Ford did accomplished just that.

Liveblogging “Days Of Our Lives” The Hotseat
Sonny survived it … can Will?

Jordan tells Ben she had nightmares about Nick last night. So did I. That he somehow survived, and is on Stefano’s island.

Will tells Hope that right before Nick was killed, Will threatened to kill him. Okay, hold on. Why is Hope even investigating this case? She has all kinds of family involved, so shouldn’t she pass it off to … well, I’m not sure Salem Pd has another investigator who isn’t related to a suspect or Nick. These people need to stop breeding with each other.

Hope turns on her Perp recorder, and asks Will exactly what happened. he explains that Nick had pressured Gabi into signing that warped custody agreement, and then Nick called him an unfit father. “So I punched him. Hey, you’ve seen his face, what would you do with it?” But Will insists he didn’t kill him.

'Dancing With the Stars': Valerie Harper gives her all on a paso doble
The paso doble is a demanding dance for anybody. But on "Dancing With the Stars" week two, it fell to Valerie Harper, a 74-year-old woman who has already sprained her knee. Ouch. But Harper gave 110 percent and the judges praised how hard she tried.

"I think it was brave of you to come out here and do that dance. You're just a brave lady," says Len. Bruno adds, "Oh my darling, I love the way you captured the grandeur of a great lady of Spain. ... I can't believe that you actually did what you did, it was so much content. You didn't take the easy way out."

Carrie Ann also praises her courage and the way she attacked the moves of the dance. The judges gave her two 6s and a 7 from Bruno for a score of 19. But we have a feeling Valerie is in no danger yet of going home.

Crystal Bell: 'Dancing With The Stars' Recap: Can Maks And William Just Be Partners?
Eric Roberts, Tori Spelling, Reginald VelJohnson, Alfonso Ribeiro, Anna Delvey Sorokin, Joey Graziadei, Ilona Maher, Jenn Tran, Stephen Nedoroscik, Dwight Howard, Julianne Hough, Phaedra Parks, Chandler Kinney, Danny Amendola, and Brooks Nader in Dancing with the Stars (2005)
Sometimes on "Dancing With the Stars," things just don't go the way you want them to. As much as I love Gladys Knight -- and Tristan MacManus -- I know that they're ultimately in jeopardy of going home after tonight's less-than-stellar performance.

Meanwhile, fan favorite Maksim Chmerkovskiy could also be in danger of exiting the ballroom earlier due to his partner Melissa Gilbert's nerves. The same could also be said for nice guy Toni Dovolani and his celebrity partner Martina Navratilova, who just can't seem to remember her steps.

However, "Dancing With the Stars" BFFs Mark Ballas and Derek Hough are sitting pretty together, at the top of the leaderboard with their gorgeous partners-in-crime, Katherine Jenkins and Maria Menounous, respectively. Plus, football player Donald Driver even received a shocking apology from Len, who said he "undermarked" him last week.

And despite a potentially major slip this week, "View" co-host...

See Cher Lloyd’s new video for Swagger Jagger!
Fans of Cher Lloyd have been posting to various internet forums to comment on her new video to accompany her single Swagger Jagger, and it seems most people just plain don’t like the “wacky” video!

More than 35,000 YouTube users ‘dislike’ it, and only 16,000 rate it.

The video kicks off with 17 year old Cher walking down a street holding a ghetto blaster, before launching into what The Sun describes as, “an intro bursting with attitude.”

Her record label’s bosses are hoping that the track – which samples from old classic Oh My Darling, Clementine – will appeal to young fans.

Top 10 mindf*** TV episodes
Fare such as Smallville's 'Labyrinth' episode and pretty much anything in either the UK or Us version of Life On Mars - even 'Life Is A Rock', the outrageous 'space finale' of ABC's 2008 remake of the original UK BBC series - is not admissable here. We knew that Smallville would continue after Labyrinth's attempts to persuade Clark that his Kryptonian heritage was invented, and since we knew ABC's Life On Mars was heading for the trash anyway, the final episode had no parameters left to respect. Also excluded are episodes of anthologies such as The Twilight Zone, which set out on a weekly basis to mess with our minds. And sorry, Lost definitely also falls into that category.

Here, instead, are the season episodes which 'got us' fair and square without committing canonical suicide...

This is chock-full of spoilers, so be warned...

Net Neutrality Supporters Protest at Google HQ
Signs from Friday's net neutrality protest at Google are long gone, but the debate lingers.

At issue is creating equal access to the Internet, regardless of site or use. The idea being, net users should be able to go anywhere online and enjoy the same connection speed and quality regardless of what they're doing. It's an ongoing battle and one that we've covered quite a bit in the past.

The most recent skirmish began earlier this month when Google and Verizon crafted a set of recommendations for the FCC. The duo's collaboration--along with their call for exempting wireless companies--rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Hints that the two were pairing was the reason cited for a breakdown in FCC talks with industry players attempting to craft new rules. As At&T nuzzled up to the plan Friday, opponents began organizing. And they focused their ire on Google.
