Despite starring in 2006's The Omen, Julia Stiles still has not seen The First Omen (2024). Stiles was the leading female star of the 2006 remake, which attempted to share Damien Thorn's story with a more modern audience. It was a financial success, earning $120 million on a $25 million budget, though it earned divisive responses from critics. Its prequel, The First Omen, earned far more love from critics, though it still struggled at the box office. Stiles did not appear in the prequel, as Rachel Hurd-Wood instead took the role of Katherine.
In an interview with Screen Rant's Grant Hermanns, Stiles explained that she has little interest in the prequel. While she was partly delayed by the production of her upcoming romance, Wish You Were Here (2025), she also generally dislikes watching horror movies. She might have been willing to star in a horror remake, but watching it is something else entirely.

Before he made us believe a man could fly and before he made arguably the quintessential '80s buddy cop movie, Richard Donner directed a terrific supernatural horror film that feels like a predecessor of the "Final Destination" franchise: "The Omen." One of the best '70s horror movies, "The Omen" is a movie about an adopted child, Damien, who may be the prophesied antichrist, whose very existence means the coming of the end of the world and utter ruin for humanity.
Starring Gregory Peck, the original 1976 film was a huge hit despite mixed reviews and even got nominated for two Oscars: Best Original Score and Best Original Song (it won Best Original Score for composer Jerry Goldsmith).
Interestingly enough, Richard Donner initially didn't want to treat this as a horror movie. Instead, he wanted to leave the supernatural aspects of the story open to interpretation, with the audience unsure...

Amy Lewis was gone from The Young and the Restless for decades. She returned on October 29 to drop a bombshell on Nate —he has an older half-brother she never told his dad about. On the October 30 episode, Nate and Devon wondered about the mysterious Damian. We’re wondering, too. And here’s what we think Genoa City could be in for.
What’s in a Name?
We’ve got our first clue right there in the new guy’s name: Damian. Sure, there was a priest with that moniker who was an absolute saint, working with the lepers on the island of Molokai. Damien is the name of a saint.
More: See a peek at what happens next on Y&r.
But for most people, it’s also the name of the antichrist. There were three movies in the 1970s: The Omen, The Omen II, and The Omen III (where no...

Damien Thorn is the Antichrist, and the trilogy that tells his unholy tale remains popular almost fifty years later. Indeed, while putting together this movie ranked list and revisiting the original Omen franchise, we were surprised at how well the old movies held up. Omen fans will be happy that the series has been restarted in a pretty interesting way earlier this year, with The First Omen a surprisingly excellent prequel to the original trilogy (check out our interviews with the director and cast here), even if it takes one large liberty involving Damien’s birth that some fans may have an issue with. So, how do the Omen films rank against each other? Let’s take a look, but remember that the TV series Damien (which lasted for one season in 2016) is not included, as we’re sticking with feature films.
The Omen (2006)
There’s honestly no reason for this movie to exist.

Although The Omen franchise might seem complicated, watching The Omen movies in order perfectly aligned until 2024s prequel The First Omen. 2024s The First Omen is the latest addition to The Omen series. The Omen franchise began in 1976 with director Richard Donners seminal classic The Omen, which follows the story of an American diplomat who begins to fear that his son is secretly the Antichrist. The Omen was a box office hit, resulting in 1978s sequel Damien: Omen II.
The series continued throughout the 70s and 80s, ending in the early 90s with Omen IV: The Awakening. The series was then dormant until 2024s prequel The First Omen, which complicated the timeline of the franchise by flashing back to the years before the original movie. The First Omen takes place before The Omen, with its final scenes leading directly into the original horror hit.

A new streaming popularity chart sees The First Omen rank as the sixth most popular title for the week of May 30 June 5. The horror prequel earned positive reviews, but struggled at the box office. The First Omen likely struggled due to its higher budget and lack of audience interest in continuations of decades-old horror properties.
The First Omen has become a streaming success after its lackluster box office performance earlier this year. Directed by Arkasha Stevenson, the prequel to Richard Donner's 1976 film, The Omen, stars Nell Tiger Free as Margaret, an American woman who joins a convent in Rome before uncovering a dark conspiracy to bring about the birth of pure evil. The First Omen reviews were mostly positive from critics, but the film struggled at the box office and has only earned $53.8 million worldwide.

It's time to revisit 2024's scariest movie yet, The First Omen, from director Arkasha Stevenson. On May 13, 20th Century Studios announced that the film would be coming to Hulu this May. It will be released via digital platforms beginning on May 28 before arriving on DVD and Blu-ray on July 30.
Set in 1971, The First Omen is a prequel to the 1976 film that started it all. Servant's Nell Tiger Free stars as a novice nun, Margaret, who travels all the way from America to Rome to take up the veil. The film chronicles the horrific events that lead to Damien's eventual birth.

The First Omen crosses $50 million box office mark with positive reviews, but still falls short of other films in the horror franchise. The First Omen has recevied positive reviews, getting an 81% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. To reach profitability, The First Omen needs to double its budget with $60 million box office total, with increasingly slim chances of reaching that goal.
The First Omen manages to get past a major box office milestone despite a tough track record. The First Omen is a prequel to the classic 1970s horror film The Omen. Its plot focuses on the story of a young woman named Magaret who is sent off to a convent in Rome in order to begin a pious lifestyle, only to discover a darkness in the church that leads her to uncover a terrifying conspiracy and question her faith.
As per Collider, The First Omen has now crossed a major box office milestone.

On April 5th, 20th Century Studios gave a theatrical release to The First Omen, which serves as a prequel to the 1976 horror classic The Omen (watch it Here) – and the movie was surprisingly well-received, with JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray giving it an 8/10 review and Tyler Nichols writing an article about why it works so well. The movie hasn’t been burning up the box office charts; made on a budget of $30 million, it has only pulled in $36 million so far. But if a sequel were to get the greenlight, director Arkasha Stevenson knows one subject she would want to cover in the follow-up: the mystery of the jackal.
In the original The Omen, we were told that the Antichrist was born of a jackal. The First Omen digs deeper into his parentage, letting us know that it wasn’t quite as simple (although very strange) as it appeared to be in the original movie,...

The infamous Satanic Panic is often referred to as the 20th century equivalent of the Salem Witch Trials, with innocent heavy metal fans and Dungeons & Dragons players being accused of worshipping Satan while apocalyptic conspiracy theories about the rise of the Antichrist and the supposed “Mark of the Beast” ran rampant amongst radical believers. However, what a lot of people don’t know is that horror cinema played an accidentally crucial role in inspiring this regrettable era of prejudice and misinformation.
In fact, there are a handful of specific horror films that informed most of the fears we now associate with the Satanic Panic, with some of the most influential being Richard Donner’s 1977 classic The Omen and its numerous follow-ups. Despite playing fast and loose with their religious influences, these movies would go on to popularize then-obscure bits of biblical lore (like the Satanic connotations of “666”) that most...

The First Omen is set to earn over $8 million in its opening weekend, the franchise's second-best debut. However, the movie's opening weekend box office performance is not enough to make up for its $30 million budget. Though it was originally projected to hit No. 3 on the domestic chart, it has fallen behind Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
The First Omen's box office plight has worsened during its opening weekend. The new movie is a prequel to the 1976 horror classic The Omen, which was the seventh highest-grossing movie of that year and went on to get two Oscar nominations, winning one. The Omen franchise started in 1976 and remains iconic, with the original being a precursor to the slasher craze of the 1980s. The Omen sequels have had mixed reviews and commercial success but most remain entertaining in their own ways. The latest entry, 2024's The First Omen, is a prequel that could lead to future sequels.
The Omen franchise is one of horror's most iconic, and is still running decades on from its 1976 debut. Before the likes of Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger stole his limelight, The Omen's Antichrist villain Damien Thorn was one of the genre's first icons. The original film's emphasis on gory deaths was also a precursor to the slasher craze of the 1980s, even if The Omen saga is a (somewhat) classier affair. Pretty much every decade since the 1970s has seen a new entry in the property too, be it on the big or small screen.

In the IP-mad world of Hollywood, we’ve got remakes and sequels, re-quels and “legacy prequels,” entire cinematic timelines up-ended and rearranged, whole franchises twisted to and fro, so isn’t it refreshing to see something like Arkasha Stevenson’s “The First Omen”? It’s the rare contemporary horror prequel that wears its devotion to the original series on its sleeve, while also cleverly reorienting previous events to chart a potential new storyline.
The basis of Stevenson’s film, which she co-wrote with producers Tim Smith and Keith Thomas, takes a classic subplot from Richard Donner’s 1976 chiller — that not only is young Damien the Antichrist, but that he was the product of a planned spawning between the Devil and a female jackal — and makes it a touch more believable. This article contains major spoilers for "The First Omen."Hello folks! Welcome back to Nunsploitation 2024: Battle of the Babies.
When last we left the saga of Damien Thorn, it was 1981, and Damien was played by the devilishly handsome Sam Neill in "The Final Conflict." In that film, the Antichrist nearly fulfilled his evil purpose in halting the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, but was foiled by his one-time lover, journalist Kate Reynolds (Lisa Harrow), who through the grace of God and her own strength was able to fatally stab Damien with the magical dagger of Megiddo, the weapon that poor Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) failed to use against his adopted son Damien (Harvey Spencer Stephens) when he was a child in 1976.
If a 33-year-old Damien in 1981 seems implausible given that the first film sees Damien as merely five years of age and the 1978 sequel, "Damien: Omen II" follows the...

Over the almost fifty years of its existence, The Omen franchise has been a rollercoaster. The original The Omen was terrifying. The sequel, Damien: Omen II ventured a bit into Final Destination territory, but still had its chills and thrills. Omen III: The Final Conflict went truly crazy yet still remained a horror film, while the television movie Omen IV: The Awakening bordered on the absurd with its unintentional hilarity. And then, in 2006, The Omen received the 21st century’s badge of horror honor/shame – the pointless shot-for-shot remake.
Now, the series is attempting a bounce-back with The First Omen.

I am not sure the world asked for yet another take on 20th Century Fox’s Omen franchise, the constantly regurgitated series with Damien (who made the numbers 666 iconic) and company. Since the 1976 original, when Damien first appeared in the movie with Gregory Peck and Lee Remick, we have had Damien: Omen II, The Final Conflict, Omen IV: The Awakening (in which a girl becomes the antichrist for the first time), the 2006 remake The Omen, and even a 2016 Damien TV series. Of course, like all these horror franchises, it is inevitable someone would come up with the idea for an origin story, and that is what we now have with The First Omen, which is, of course, not the first, just the latest. But, set in 1971, it does attempt to take us right to the doorstep of the actual first, the Richard Donner-directed 1976 starter.

When compared to "classier" Satanic contemporaries like "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Exorcist," Richard Donner's 1976 hit "The Omen" is the pulpiest of the lot. "The Omen" had no interest in the sexist panic of the former, nor the religious angst of the latter, settling instead in the realm of spooky thrillers, replete with cool kills, portentous Satanic language, and an awesome score (a score that brought Jerry Goldsmith his only Oscar). There's no ambiguity to "The Omen," being clear from the start that Gregory Peck and Lee Remick are indeed raising the Antichrist. The pop Satanism "The Omen" introduced into the lexicon has now become standard horror fare, and was even spoofed at length in the TV series "Good Omens."
"The Omen" spawned one okay sequel ("Damien: Omen II" in 1978), one risibly bad sequel ("The Final Conflict" in 1981), and one miserably bad sequel ("Omen IV: The Awakening" in 1991) before succumbing...

The First Omen director Arkasha Stevenson recently opened up about the possibility for more installments in the long-running horror franchise beyond the upcoming prequel.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Stevenson — who makes her feature directorial debut with The First Omen — revealed her hopes for the future of The Omen franchise. The film stars Nell Tiger Free of the Apple TV+ series Servant, and will be hitting the big screen with an R rating for violent content, grisly/disturbing images, and brief graphic nudity. That’s a rating the filmmakers really had to fight for, as director Arkasha Stevenson revealed to Fangoria that there’s a birthing scene that nearly earned the film an Nc-17 rating – mainly because it featured a thirteen second shot of a woman’s vagina. That shot had to be whittled down to secure the R.
Stevenson said, “The horror in that situation is how dehumanized that woman is. This has been my life for a year and a half, fighting for the shot. It’s the theme of our film.

The prequel to the popular horror film The Omen, titled The First Omen, will premiere and reveal what happened before the first movie. The First Omen is likely set in late 1970 or early 1971, as indicated by the premise and trailer. Damien's birthdate, June 6, 1971, holds significance as it aligns with the symbolism of 666, highlighting his role as the Antichrist.
Forty-eight years following the release of The Omen, the horror film's prequel, The First Omen, will premiere and reveal what happened before the first movie's events. The Omen debuted in 1976 and told the story of Damien Thorn, a young boy who was the prophesied Antichrist. Damien was switched at birth after his (unbeknownst to him and her) adopted mother, Kathy, gave birth to a child who died. The hospital chaplain, Father Spiletto, convinced her husband, Robert, to adopt another baby (Damien) whose mother had passed away during childbirth. Robert did so but...

The Exorcist sequel, The Exorcist: Believer, didn’t wow horror fans or critics in 2022. 20th Century Studios is hoping for a better reception for their The Omen prequel, The First Omen. In 1976, audiences were introduced to Damien, a little kid with jet-black hair who may or may not be the Antichrist (spoiler: he is/was). In "The Omen," a diplomat (Gregory Peck) and his wife (Lee Remick) become the parents of a bouncing baby boy. But there's a twist: the diplomat is told that their actual baby died during childbirth. Rather than go home empty-handed, Peck's character is convinced to adopt another baby. He passes the child off as his own and neglects to tell his wife about the whole "our real kid died" thing. Men, am I right? Anyway, as it turns out, the child the couple welcomes into their home ends up being the spawn of Satan, and that could spell certain doom for us all.
"The Omen," which was helmed by "Superman" director Richard Donner, was a box office hit and has since become a horror classic.

The First Omen will star Nell Tiger Free, who plays a young American woman sent to a church in Rome to begin a life of service to God. The Omen trilogy reveals a Satanic conspiracy involving Father Brennan, Father Spiletto, and Sister Teresa, who is willing to sacrifice her life to protect Damien. Given the contained space and time between The First Omen and the original film, it's unclear how the prequel will expand the Omen universe beyond Damien's birth.

Streaming services are now trying to ration their upcoming original content due to the ongoing actors strike and the only recently-resolved writers’ strike, so we’re going to see a thinning-down of new releases across the board over the next six months at least. Hulu will be adding a lot of library TV shows and movies in November, but there are only a few new major original projects hitting the streamer this month.
Hulu’s spotlight streaming series in November is Black Cake, which is based on the bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson. Part family drama, part murder mystery, the show features a globetrotting story that will cover decades of events after a bereaved family find a flash drive that contains some shocking secrets about the hidden history of their late matriarch.

The streamer will head into November with plenty of new additions to un-spook yourself and keep warm, including the new Awkwafina and Sandra Oh-led “Quiz Lady”; Christmas classics like “National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation” and “The Polar Express,” and much more.
On the TV side, Hulu will have the exclusive two-episode premiere of FX’s limited murder mystery series “A Murder at the End of the World” starring Emma Corrin. “Fargo” fans can also catch the next-day streaming premiere of Season/Year 5, which will star Jon Hamm, Juno Temple, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. With all the hoopla, excitement, and massive box office last week due to the combined cinematic juggernaut known as Barbenheimer, it would not be remiss on the part of audiences if they completely ignored another new movie that opened the same weekend: a horror film called Cobweb from Lionsgate Films. The movie was released on less than 2,000 screens (the exact number is hard to find), and the box office did not even register enough to land the movie in the week’s Top 10.
Cobweb did generate some good reviews, though, albeit not enough to create any kind of buzz online. We’ve lost another Hollywood legend. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that cinematographer Bill Butler, best known for his work on the 1975 Steven Spielberg classic Jaws, has passed away at the age of 101. Butler died on Wednesday evening, according to the American Society of Cinematographers. He would have turned 102 on Friday – today.
Born on April 7, 1921 in Cripple Creek, Colorado, Butler earned his first entertainment industry credit by working as a camera operator on the 1959 film 1001 Arabian Nights. His first cinematographer credit came when his friend, director William Friedkin, hired him to shoot the 1962 TV movie The People vs. Paul Crump. He never attended film school, he just taught himself cinematography by watching movies and referring to the ASC manual. That approach definitely worked out for him. Over the next fifty-four years, he served as the cinematographer on eighty-four more projects, including Jack Nicholson’s Drive, He Said; The Bold Men,...
