Pedro Olea manages to create a story full of nostalgia , drama and politcs with terrific acting by José Sacristán

Lluis de Serracant (José Sacristán) leads a double life . By day he's a young lawyer, son of a Catalan bourgeois family and lives with his elderly widow Doña Nuria (Carmen Carbonell) . At night he's a transvestite performer known to his fans as "Flower of Autumn" performing at a cabaret located in the Barcelona Chinese slum called Bataclán . Along the way , Serracant keeps a homosexual relationship to Ricard (Piñeiro) and his friendship with ex-boxer Kid Surruca (Paco Algora) . All of them join to carry out an important plan , to assassin General Primo de Rivera during his visit to Barcelona .

This is a historical drama that blends loving elements between a gay son and his traditional mother , politics , sober melodrama ; but being carried out in academicism and slowness . Interesting and thought -provoking script from Rafael Azcona, and director Pedro Olea himself , based on the play written by José María Rodríguez Méndez . Here José Sacristán stands out , who once again proves to be one of the best actors in the world . Being accompanied by a very good support cast, such as : Carmen Carbonell , Paco Algora , Roberto Camardiel , Victor Israel , Enrique Vivó, María Elena Flores , Mimí Muñoz , Marisa Porcel , Víctor Israel , José Franco , Antonio Gamero , Félix Dafauce , Fernando Sánchez Polack and Pedro Almodovar himself

It displays a colorful and evocative cinematography by Fernando Arribas. As well as atmospheric musical score , including songs mailnlt performed by José sacristán such as : La perduda written by R. Llurba and J. Auli , Foxtrot de l'Ombrella written by F. Casals, Enrique Nieto de Molina and Vicenç Quirós performed by José Sacristán , Flor del mal Written by Adrienne Armand performed by José Sacristán , Loca written by José Sacristán and C. Fernacla performed by José Sacristán. The motion picture well produced by José Frade and was professionally directed by Basque (Bilbao) filmmaker Pedro Olea. It won various prizes and nominations , such as : San Sebastián International Film Festival 1978 Winner Prize San Sebastián Best Actor José Sacristán ; Sant Jordi Awards 1979 Winner Sant Jordi Best Spanish Actor José Sacristán . Pedro Olea is one of the most gripping Spanish directors , being an expert director , producer and screenwriter . He began directing ¨Dias Viejo color¨ and followed a personal work titled ¨Bosque del Lobo¨ about an alleged werewolf . He subsequently directed a trilogy about Madrid , produced by Jose Frade, such as ¨Tormento , ¨Pim , Pam , Pum Fuego¨and ¨La Corea¨ . His biggest success was ¨A man called Flor De Otoño¨ with Jose Sacristan . After that , he made ¨Bandera Negra¨ about arms smuggling and a military thriller : Moriras en Chafarinas¨ ; later on , he directed ¨Mas Alla Jardin¨ with Concha Velasco . And ¨Fencing master¨and ¨Un hombre llamado Flor de Otoño¨(1978) that resulted to be two of the best films . Rating : 6.5/10 . Above average , well worth watching .
