Gefundenes Fressen

I watched "Gefundenes Fressen" (Scrounged Meals) with real pleasure. The plot is about an unequal friendship between a sympathetic police officer, Erwin (Mario Adorf), and an old "bum", Alfred (Heinz Ruhmann), both of whom try to neutralize the hardships and dissatisfaction of their lives through illusions. For me, alongside the 1970s episodes of the TV series "Derrick", this film is also a convincing portrayal of the era in which Germany was a country with a bloated social welfare system. Alfred finds no reasons to participate sensibly in the life of the society around him. However, I liked the character of Erwin the most, and in my opinion, Mario Adorf created a wonderful comic and, at the same time, realistic character in this film. The likable Erwin is a man who is completely devoid of realism and objectivity, which makes him an eternal loser and an object of ridicule to those around him. Erwin could function perfectly in society if he could evaluate and accept himself. Alfred and Erwin's friendship is not entirely fictional, as both characters have a lot in common. To sum it up for me, "Scrounged Meals" was great fun.
