    Why! Why!

****SPOILERS**** Tough guy star of the TV series "Mannix" Mike Conners is the sweet & kindly archaeologist Travis Green sporting an Elvis Presley, when Elvis was still around, look who turned homicidal when things went bad for him. That's when his pregnant wife Amy, Tracy Brooks Swope, was brutally gang raped by a trio of scuzzy looking mountain men while he was out in the woods taking pictures of nature. With a very stretchy description of the men who raped her Travis goes on his own to exact justice on them leaving the local Sheriff Paley, Robert Reed, and his deputies behind in the cold.

Tracking down the men whom he thinks raped his wife Travis spots one of them-described as the fat guy with the white feather in his cap-Curly played by Jock Livingston and after trying to bring him back alive to face Justice ends up killing him when he resisted. That with the befuddled Curly thinking that Travis was some kind of deranged lunatic who escaped from a nearby sanitarium. Not just satisfied in doing in Curly Travis now tasting first blood goes after Curly's two friends investment broker Cooper, Larry Weston, and doctor and urologist Chuck, Glenn R. Wilder, who like their late friend Curly think that he's some kind of nut who escaped from a loony bin.

****SPOILERS**** It was Sheriff Paley who had earlier with his team of deputies captured Travis wife's, who positively identified them, actual rapists but with him jumping the gun and going out on his own Travis doesn't realized that he killed or better yet murdered three innocent men! A crime far worse then what was committed against his wife that he ,in his confused state of mind, accused them of and punished them for! A crime that he'll have to live with and pay for, with Sheriff Paley about to arrest him at the end of the movie, for the rest of his life.

    Mannix meets The Deliverance Hilbillies

Were Mike Connors and Robert Reed (trying very hard to act like a hardened cop and failing miserably) so desperate for work after their respective TV series ended that they agreed to be in this unbelievably bad dreck? Did they not read the script? Everything about this amateurish train wreck is sooo bad (acting, writing, sound, editing -- you name it) that it's actually painful to watch. Forty minutes of this movie is spent just watching Connors run through the woods WHILE having flashbacks! Seriously, what were they thinking? The only good things about this mess are Mike Connors' hair and when the movie finally, mercifully ends. And no wonder the actress playing Connors' wife never went on to a movie career; she especially stunk. How could anyone give this disaster a good rating when it deserves nothing more than one star?
