Spanish comedy with good casting in a rather slight story well starred by Juanjo Menéndez

Spaniard production set in Marbella and Torremolinos (Sun Coast) and mixing humor and 60s and 70s' social habits . Funny and fun Spanish comedy with a top-notch cast formed by the biggest hilarious actors from the sixties and Seventies . Marbella and Torremolinos are seaside resorts localed in Málaga , Comunidad Andalucia , where Spanish people and foreigners spend sunny vacation. El abominable hombre de la Costa del Sol (1970) is a so-so , average Spanish comedy , resulting in agreeable showing in Federico (Juanjo Menéndez)'s life , he's a timid man who belongs to an aristocratic family in decline, he's sent by his father marqués de Urbión (George Rigaud) to Marbella to get smarter by working as head of public relations for a luxurious hotel : Melia Don Pepe , first of five stars . In Marbella , the hotel public relations Federico becomes a womanizer who attempts flirts with the foreign women (Margot Cottens, La Polaca) , while romantic complications happen , and jealous occuring here and there.

Typical tale about a shy man who becomes a seducer , being pursued by gorgeous women while the tourist boom in the 60s Spanish period is developing . It is full of frivolity , duplicity , and deceits , but turns out to be a mediocre and silly picture and it lacks sparkle , mayhem and madness of the other Spanish comedies , adding a so-so script by Rafael J. Salvia and Pedro Masó who was producer as well . I results to be a minor comedy that has as its center the typical "loser" turned playboy . There's a motley , varied catalog of characters and the writers strive to be original by including ideal theatrical-romantic fantasies , at the same time including representations of Don Juan and Doña Inés , Marco Antonio and Cleopatra , Otello , Don Quijote , Romeo and Juliet , but all of them drive a progressively insipid plot crazy . The-abominable-man-of-the-costa-del-sol is well starred by Juanjo-Menendez . His initial grace in the fixation of the peculiar role , context , family and personality conflicts , deflates with the passing of the minutes in the hotel-tourist stay , accumulating very soulless humorous situations that waste their possible features of satire . Made in the style of other summer films concerning the touristic boom in the Mediterranean coast , such as : ¨Pedro Lazaga's Verano 70 (1970)¨, ¨Fernando Merino's Amor-a-la-espanola (1967)¨ or the subsequent ¨Pedro Lazaga's Tres suecas para tres Rodríguez (1975)¨ contains comedic events , showing typical sunny images in the Sixties and Seventies . Nice performances from a large cast but is the beautiful Mary Francis , later on Paca Gabaldón, who steals the show as the charming , gorgeous and jealous fiancée . Highlights , above all, a great plethora of notorious actors playing attractive roles , such as : La Polaca, Mónica Randall, George Rigaud , Margot Cottens , Rafaela Aparicio , Carlos Mendy , Adriano Dominguez, Guillermo Marín , Doris Coll, Ricardo Merino and special mention for Francisco Camoiras as a cook , he was an expert in making short but very human roles that easily won the viewer to be reflected in their actions.

It displays atmospheric , evocative cinematography by cameran Juan Mariné . Including enjoyable score by Antón García Abril with catching songs : Guararé , words music by Ricardo Fábrega and performed by Tony Moro. With a routine script by Pedro Masó ("Atraco a Las Tres", "El Turismo Es Un Gran Invento") and Rafael J. Salvia ("Acompáñame", "La Gran Familia") , being produced by prolific producer Pedro Masó himself , the motion picture was regularly directed by Pedro Lazaga and shot in fits and starts. Lazaga was born in Valls , Tarragona , Catalonia , and died on November 30, 1979 in Madrid . He was a prolific director and writer , specially known for Los Chicos del Preu (1967), María Morena (1951), Cuerda De Presos (1956) and Posición Avanzada (1966). Lazaga directed various film with the popular comic player Paco Martinez Soria .Pedro was a craftsman , a notorious director and writer who directed all kind of genres such as Peplum : Siete Espartanos , Wartime : Cuerda De Presos , Posicion Avanzada , Torrepartida , La Patrulla ; Drama : Rostro De Asesino , Otro Arbol De Guernica , but especially known for comedies in low budget . Director Pedro Lazaga made , during the fifties and early sixties , eight films , mostly comedies : ¨Muchachas De Azul¨, Ana Dice Si¨. ¨Luna De Verano¨, ¨Económicamente Debiles¨ , ¨Trio Damas¨ for screenwriter and producer Jose Luis Dibildos and his ¨Agata Films Productions¨. The best of all them resulted to be ¨Los Tramposos¨. He continued making comedies such as Patrulla De Los Once , Los Tramposos , Sabian Demasiado , El Vikingo , ¡No Firmes Más Letras, Cielo! , Vente a Ligar Al Oeste , Hasta El Matrimonio Nos Separe , La Amante Perfecta , Fulanita y Sus Menganos , Vota a Gundisalvo , Terapia Al Desnudo , Tres Suecas Para Tres Rodríguez , Yo soy Fulana de Tal , 5 Almohadas Para Una Noche , En La Cresta De la Ola and several others . His most known films were with the popular comic player Paco Martinez Soria , such as : Abuelo Made in Spain or Old made in Spain, , Padre De La Criatura , Alegre Divorciado , Estoy Hecho Un Chaval , Vaya Par Gemelos , among others. Rating : 4.5/10. Mediocre only for Spanish comedy enthusiasts.
