      Brighty is a Children's Classic

I find many films aimed at kids to be very annoying. Especially during repeated viewings. Brighty of the Grand Canyon goes down easy. This old-school classic is easy on adult nerves and holds the interest of younger children. Brighty the donkey is cute and well defined keeping the kids engaged. Joseph Cotten and the cast deliver professional performances. I grew up in Henderson Nevada. Schools in this area had access to a 16mm copy of Brighty and showed it frequently. I watched it 6 or 8 times growing up. A great family film!

      A Great Childhood Movie!

I was a young child when I saw this movie and I loved it. Back when a family could watch a movie together and it not be spoiled with sex, violence and obscenities. I seems that now even movies directed for children and families are way out there and leaves you wondering "what kind of film was that?" The book was very good also. I remember this movie and also "Pablo and the Dancing Chuchuahua" as two of my fondest childhood movies. I have a daughter that I would love to see this movie. I'm sure she would love it as much as I did. Also I would like to see it again also. Does anyone know how these movies could be obtained? Or even if any channels can show them on TV?

      You'll Love Brighty

This movie is a heartwarming story of a lovable burro named Brighty and his high spirited adventure with all his Grand Canyon friends. I bought the video a few years ago for my children and we all enjoyed it. Brighty leads everyone on quite a chase around and through the beautiful Grand Canyon and shows just how smart burros can really be.

Just purchased the DVD release for my visiting grandchildren and we have already had to show it several times. Great family entertainment for a change. You'll Love Brighty.

Timeless Film of the Canyon, Great Family Film

Brighty is a timeless view of the Grand Canyon, and a wonderful family film based on the award winning children's book by Maruerite Henry. The cast has some great Hollywood veterans like Dick Foran and Joseph Cotton, and was directed by Norman Foster who directed for Walt Disney for years, and also directed with Orson Wells. The story is good guys vs. the bad guy, but also is based on the true story of the real Brighty the burro who's owner Jim Owen (Cotton's character) worked as a guide and hunter at the Canyon in the late 1800s, and hunted with Pres. Teddy Roosevelt. This film was shot almost completely in and around the Canyon, and because of restrictions today at the Park, could never be done again! in this respect it is a great cinema-graphic testimony to the Canyon The DVD contains many added chapters and content for both children and adults. It is well worth viewing or owning!

A good choice for the family

A western flavored adventure film that takes place in the Grand Canyon around the turn of the century.

A nice Disney type movie about a a boy and his beloved burro Brighty. A movie that the whole family could watch together.

After renting this film we then took our family vacation at the Grand Canyon to see it for ourselves. The kids fell in love with Brighty and of course we had to see all the "burros" during our canyon trip. Found out that the movie was based on a true story of a burro called "Bright Angel" or Brighty for short.

Just bought the DVD version of the movie...great sound and such canyon scenes!

This would be the final theatrical feature film for Dick Foran. He would spend the final decade of his career doing television work.
      • Goofs
When Uncle Jim starts pouring a drink for Old Timer, he is holding the jug handle with his right hand. But in the very next shot, only a second later, he is now holding the handle of the jug with his left hand.

Voice-over: This old world has seen a lot of changes since Teddy Roosevelt's day, but his dream came true, and the Grand Canyon will stay the same, as long as there is a world. Brighty has long since left this earth, but some animals, like some men, leave a trail of glory behind them. They give their spirit to the place where they have lived, a part of the rocks and streams, the wind and the sky. Brighty's spirit lives on. Forever wild, forever free.
