An outdated but enjoyable comedy showing the absurdities of life in the Polish People's Republic

I think that "Pieczone Golabki" (Roasted Cabbage Rolls) is worth watching for a few irresistibly funny situations. The main character, Leopold (Krzysztof Litwin), works at a Warsaw pumping station, commonly known as "Gruba Kaska", where the crew consists almost exclusively of shirkers and schemers. The effect of their rather indifferent attitude to work is constant breakdowns, the repair of which drags on for weeks, causing irritation to the city's residents. Director Tadeusz Chmielewski, showing everyday and ordinary Poland, as if in passing, reveals its absurdities and paradoxes, unmasking a reality filled to the brim with nonsense. The film was certainly funnier for 1960s viewers, although critics already then felt it was not as good as Chmielewski's two previous comedies ("Ewa chce spac" and "Gdzie jest general"). But this film is watchable even today, and its additional asset is the presence of many popular actors, and it also gives us the opportunity to recall those times.
