I agree with the other reviewer

I saw one episode and I was pleasantly surprised. Seeing how I was flipping channels and ran into this western, I thought it was a movie. The end credits it was the Shane TV show. Well now I'd like to watch all 17 episodes sometimes. PS, Not sure which episode but it didn't have a working Gattling gun which was pretty cool.

    Great show

If you ever get the time, watch it from episode 1 to 17. Fantastic show, I can watch it over and over. Very well done and great storylines. Give it a chance, not just one episode.

Just saw one episode and was pleasanatly surprised.

I never knew they tried to make a TV series out of "Shane," one of the best westerns ever made. Sure, they probably shouldn't have bothered, but I was surprised how well the episode I just watched worked. "The Day the Wolf Laughed" had a good script (minus the standard "if only character X had spoken up, nothing would have happened" moment), solid acting, especially by guest star J.D. Cannon, and effective music. They obviously didn't shoot the series in Wyoming, or wherever the movie was shot, but used the outdoors they had well. Based on this episode, I'd be willing to give the rest of the show a chance if I come across it again.

    An alternate universe

How did this disaster happen? Did someone go back in time and mess with the space-time continuum? It's like you woke up and were living your bad dream, Shane's story but with new characters and a dull plot line...oh my gosh, what happened to Alan Ladd? How did these cheesy sets replace the real Montana mountain range? Who wrote these scripts? HELP me wake up!!

    Shane 1966 TV Series.

I saw the full series of Shane in the 60s on TV and I thought it was excellent, nothing fancy or Ultra action series, but a really good realistic western series with an excellent cast.David Carradine was his usual strong, moody self.(as Kung Fu)The late Jill Ireland was good as his romantic interest. I suppose it would seem a bit sedate by today's standards, but to me it was superb, with some very good supporting actors, Some who appeared on an almost weekly basis and some who did not. All were good.I thought Ryker was also a good character, A real good villain of the piece with his brother and other gun hands he seemed to hire who always came up against out hero Shane.I would love to see the whole series again today. I'm sure It'd be just as enjoyable.

    • Trivia
The show was short lived, mainly due to its competition. It was shown on Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time, directly opposite The Jackie Gleason Show, then the fifth most popular show on television. It was cancelled at mid season, with its last broadcast on New Year's Eve 1966. For some reason, the family name of Starett was spelled with one R, instead of with two R's, as it was in the movie and source novel.
