Entertaining Dramedy with the awesome José Luis López Vazquez accompanied by towering actresses and including bemusing situations that happen when an upright middle-age man after the death of his mother receives an unusual legacy : a British brothel . Santiago (José Luis López Vázquez) is a timid and virgin man who lives with his adopting mummy , when he receives a sad notice : the recent death his actual mother . At the prospect of inheritance he decides to go in search of the business of his deceased mom who lived in England . Fernando arrives in a strange coastal location where is angrily received by the neighbours (Alberto Fernandez , Miguel Del Castillo , Eduardo Calvo) . After that , he discovers a surprising truth , as the inherited mansion results to be the town's bawdy brothel , with plenty of joyful girls (Esperanza Roy , Teresa Rabal , Patty Shepard , Mirta Miller as sexpots of bordello) and it has a great tradition in the region . At the beginning , a reluctant Fernando is opposed to these ominous businesses , but increasing involvement with the luscious employees and he subsequently helps to operate the bordello . Meanwhile , there appears the assortment of bad guys and ordinary clients .
Gentle entertainment about a bordello in a cold British island with a top-notch master of the performance : José Luis López Vazquez . He is a magnificent expert in the art of conjuring laughs of nothing , here Vazquez shines in this atypical but amusing Dramedy with a lot of emotion , undistinguished moments and comical attitudes , in addition a multitude of absurd situations . This is a highly desirable movie to spend 96 minutes and to watch the big Spanish name cast . Agreeable film about a virginal , shy but stiff-upper-lip man , with plenty of humor , brief drama , romance and stunning interpretations . The film relies heavily on the relationship between Fernando/José Luis López Vazquez and the sympathetic prostitutes . There takes place some amusing exchange of dialogues among them . Fun screenplay by Jaime de Armiñán and Juan Tébar , based on their original story , though clichés run through-out . The attractive story is enhanced for funny moments developed among main character along with the seducing whores and especially on the each-other relationships . The stellar cast is accompanied by some very good secondary actors , such as : María Isbert , Blaki , María Francés , Eduardo Calvo , Mara Goyanes , Saturno Cerra , Miguel del Castillo , Alberto Fernández and a brief appearance by Carmen Maura .
It also appreciates a good production design and colorful cinematography by Fernando Arribas , shot on location in Guernica (Vizcaya) , Castro Urdiales (Cantabria) and Brishan (England). Emotive as well as evocative musical score by José Nieto , considered to be one of the best Spanish musicians . Being professionally directed by Jaime De Armiñan , though with no originality . Jaime dares to lead this Dramedy with acceptable results , and offers us here an entertaining comedy without major skills , but should make it more dynamic . It's a minor and thin effort in his important cinematic career . An object of lesson by an old master filmmaker who will appeal his fans . Jaime De Armiñán was born on March 9 , 1927 in Madrid , where he often shoots his films . He is a writer and director , particularly known for Mi Querida Señorita (1972) , El Amor Del Capitán Brando (1974) , Stico (85) and Mi General (1987). Jaime Armiñan achieved several successes , such as : Jo , Papá (1975) , Al Servicio De La Mujer Española (1978) and especially El Nido (1980) and Hora Bruja (1985) at his best . Armiñan also directed great TV series as Una Gloria Nacional (1993) , Cuentos Imposibles (84) and , of course , Juncal (1989) .
