Vitti is one of the greatest actresses ...

This movie is a long and sad but very realistic story, showing the ups and downs of life that we cannot entirely control. The ideas are many and the direction is wise, while the actress is divine. Excellent movie that entertains but leaves so much bitterness in the bottom of the heart.

          A drama of unlucky woman

Movie with a particular structure, entirely narrated by the protagonist. A girl's story, from youth to old age as she grows up and meets people who will change her, usually for the worse. A thief out of necessity at the beginning, but out of obsession at the end of a life marked by difficulties, uncertainties and suffering.

          Exceptional film!

Monica Vitti, another favorite actress of mine, is here 42 years old and sometimes she looks at most 32, and sometimes even 22, a rare beauty and not very sexy (although she is), because she has to look like an ugly, bitter thief, unwashed, sometimes crazy person. She plays as usual extraordinary, building an excellent role. Michele Placido, in one of his first roles, is extremely young, looks like an immature teenager. The scene when Teresa (Monica Vitti) is alone in the prison cell, alone in the whole prison, and she sings a little bit "Volare (Nel blu dipinto di blu)" is absolutely brilliant. A reference film. Great achievement for Carlo Di Palma, who made 2 other films with Monica Vitti, "Lucky Girls" and "Mimì Bluette... fiore del mio giardino".

When in Livorno, a scene shot at Terrazza Mascagni shows a lot of TV antennas on the roofs of the houses and the Piazza Matteotti skyscraper. The action should be taking place in 1947, but TV broadcastings started in Italy in 1953 and the skyscraper was built in the late Sixties.
