    Dandy scapegoat under fascism

A maniac ghastly kills little girls in Rome during fascist Italy. Quite from the beginning we know who is the culprit, a sick nobody protected by his petty family. But this bears no importance: only counts the fabric of a fake monster, because as usual and so desperately for fascism the police is definitively incompetent. The more tiny false testimony is then overstated to shape a scapegoat (Nino Manfredi as the historic Girolimoni) for public hatred, in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the regime and purify all the sins of the new Italy.

When the accusation inevitably falls down by itself, the only way out remains to enjoin the press a full blackout on the issue. But thanks to this affair, death penalty has been restored allowing thereby execution of opponents. Slim consolation for Girolimoni and his ruined existence, we are after all to be "against the easy life", as a slogan claims. And as our hero philosophically states, we "want to see how it ends".
