Navy F-4 Phantoms are shown taking off the USS Ranger and flying in some scenes. Ranger also appeared in other movies and TV shows, often as a stand-in for USS Enterprise, and most notably Top Gun (1986) and Star Trek IV : Retour sur Terre (1986). This may be the first TV production to use Ranger. Ranger was decommissioned in 1993.
