A unique and innovative crime/social drama showing a wrongly accused man's path to truth

I watched "Trad" (Leprosy) at the end of 1970s and more recently on Polish TV. For me, "Leprosy" is not only an absorbing crime story with psychological undertones, but also a film in a very original style. Its sparse and somewhat ascetic style is somewhat reminiscent of the early films of Robert Bresson. The plot is about Stanislaw Czermien (Zygmunt Malanowicz), who is suspected of participating in a gang rape and murdering the victim. However, he has an irrefutable alibi. He himself suspects that it is his brother, Witek, who commited this crime. He tries to reach him on his own. The director of "Leprosy" was Andrzej Trzos-Rastawiecki who didn't make many feature films, but all his works were of outstanding quality and had a unique style. Andrzej Trzos-Rastawiecki was also a documentalist and that is why the film scenes are also characterized by realism. The plot is relatively fast paced and the acting is good. So for me "Leprosy" is a great cross between crime and artistic cinema.
