    Simple Story line

This movie has a simple story line.

Ram Chand (Amitabh Bachchan) is elder brother of Ravi Chand (Anil Dhawan). Ram is moderately educated where Ravi is highly educated. They work in the same office where Ram is Peon and Ravi is Boss.

This is one of the early movies of Amitabh Bachchan and he is sensible and sensitive in underplaying this demanding role. Tanuja plays role of a lively girl with ease. Looks like its in genes - her daughter Kajol has delighted us in many such roles she played. Even Anil Dhawan (does any one remember him?) has played his role with dignity.

Apart from this you can't say much for or against it. The simple story line also means that the much of glitter and glamour is missing (except for again what Tanuja provides). That explains why the movie was not a commercial success, but again it is not bad experience to watch it.

    The super star started here...

Amitabh Bachchan has a come a long way since this movie but the charisma was already there when this movie was filmed.

Amitabh plays Ram is just another peon in a big company in south India. Although he originally is from North he has made his peace with the change in culture and his work though he still craves for the food from back home and never misses a chance to have it. He portrays a man who is more than generous for his social stature. This is because although he is ably qualified and from a well to do family, he has to work as a peon in absence of a job more appropriate to his qualifications, or is it? Enter Ravi, a docile introvert who is on the verge of suicide when Ram meets him. Ram helps put a roof on Ravi's head and gets him a job and everything is going great. They are the best of friends almost like brothers.

Meanwhile Ram's parents arrange his marriage to Kusum (Tanuja) who is what all hardly-20 girls are, alive with energy and innocent. Ram is very excited about the arrangement and is longing to meet Kusum but when Ravi sees her photograph he does not approve of the match at all. This puts Ram in a fix and he makes him think about Ravi's life before they met.

The suspense opens after a lot of dilly dallying and climax is really fast for the smooth sailing story.

This is one of the first movies of Amitabh Bachchan but he did show all colors of becoming a super star. His scenes demand attention towards him.

A worth watch for all Bachchan fans.

    • Trivia
When the film was launched, it was to star Jeetendra and Vinod Khanna in the lead roles. Jeetendra opted out due to some problems with his dates. There was some rule with the film association that limited the number of films a actor could sign. Vinod Khanna opted out because he was going to get married and take a month off work. Anil Dhawan was signed for Jeetendra's role and Amitabh Bachchan was signed for Vinod Khanna's role. Anil Dhawan had recommended Amitabh for the film because Anil Dhawan was close friends with Jaya Badhuri and both had been to FTII school together.
